I have the Predator Trilogy on Blu-Ray, I found Gary Busey really good in this movie... It's just a shame he stared in Fullmoon Productions... Gingerdead-Man. And What I think of the Predators Dancing outtake in this... It is one of the most Outlandish, Funny and awesome things I ever came across.

Oliver Harper I completely agreed with Siskel and Ebert. Predator 2 is not a low-budget and not a pleasant sequal. The special effects is elaborate, the violence is too violent, and that insulting foul-language. I gave it 2/10 and thumbs down at IMDB.com.
@DrQuagmire1
@DrQuagmire1 5 жыл бұрын
uh dude, the violence is meant to be exactly that, as it's supposed to be in the middle of a drug war after all. Now I might agree with you somewhat about the excessive use of foul language, but at the same time, it also fits into the story of Danny Glover's role of a "take no shit" kinda guy

Siskel and Ebert didn't have a clue. Listen to them. And comparing the second movie to the first? Danny Glove to Arnie? How? They are 2 different actors and these are 2 different movies. I agree with some of the stuff you said but I think you get lost with the rest. Watch it with low expectations? Really!? I think you'd find the real Predator fans loved this movie. It was different and took good risks. It showed us there are different Predators out there. So what did people want? Same jungle scene rehashed? Macho men again? It's a different movie that gets more right than wrong. Can't even begin to compare it to AVP, AVP2, Predators and the new one. Tells you a lot about a supposed "trusted site" like Rotten Tomato when Predators gets a higher score than Predator 2.

I actually liked Shane Black's "The Predator", and I rank it higher than "Predators", but still not quite as good as the first 2 films. not to mention, the new movie actually references the 1987 and 1997 incidents, but yet, the filmmakers (particularly that of Robert Rodriguez) fails to mention the events from "Predator 2"

I was at university when this came out and went with big group of friends. We absolutely loved, it and came home raving about it, a few of us went back again the next night. I still really like this movie. It’s not as good as the original, but it’s a great sequel, and I still really enjoy it - if I watch the first, I have to watch the second right away. It expands on the first one, but avoids being a total retread, expands the background of the Predator a bit, shows us some new tricks, and has a style of it’s own. Mostly it gets one main thing right in that, like the first movie, it doesn’t really start as a sci-fi film, it starts as a different genre of movie, an action cop movie in this case, then the Predator shows up to spoil the party. I think that’s the characteristic that Predators and The Predator missed, and it meant they didn’t seem to fit in the series, and weren’t as good as the first two. (Predators isn’t bad, just kind of forgettable). Predator 2 jumps in a bit deeper at the start, showing us more of the alien, and admittedly, a bit more character development would have helped. A second sequel should have kept that basic idea though - start as a different genre - a heist movie, or a western, or a WW2 movie, then have the Predator shake it off course.

Rods toy box Personally, I was rather happy to see Danny Glover be in a film of which he was mostly outmatched. In the past, he seemed to be the sidekick of other actors. For this one, for Danny Glover's character being compared to a lion only makes me speculate about his character. Of how badass he has to be for a Predator to isolate him out.

He is afriad of heights and he also has those outbursts of anger which shows weakness in him due to his anxiety but he will always get the job done despite his mental condition. And i honestly think that The Predator was facinated by him because of how he handled drug criminals at the start of the movie despite having this mental condition and i think thats why The Predator wanted to hunt him. The thing I like about Predator 2 is that it really seemed like a hunter who preferred to challenge itself. Rather than sit back fully camouflaged and firing its plasma caster with lock on targeting, the Yautja in this film leaps into the fray against opponents armed with deadly ranged weaponry and slaughters them in close combat. Also, I like how taxing the fight appeared to be for Glover, and how luck seemed to be an integral element in his victory, but in a believable and not plot convenient way. I'm not hating on the previous film - I do like it - but these elements make this film a lot more entertaining for me.

Well that's one of the reasons that Predator 1 works better in the horror aspect. It takes place in a far less familiar harsh jungle. I know neither of the two are horror movies per se, but the first is objectively scarier. When there are comedic bits with an old woman in an apartment, we all can relate to the setting and thus tension evaporates right in the middle of the third act. Going into the depths to wind up inside the ship was a good call to get the audience back into unfamiliar territory and salvage the ending. Now P1 had a subtle gag when his arm blades slice right down with Arnold's neck in between, but the tension spikes right then instead of making us laugh. It's more of an oh snap moment, but still leans toward the funny side. P1 has a very consistent tone whereas P2 jumps from scary gorefest to "want some candy" kid to special forces team getting slaughtered to old lady one-liners.

The first one felt like the only thing they were going for was having multiple Rambos go at an alien in the jungle. The basic premise wasn’t all that creative, and the scenes involving the Predator were easily the best and most memorable. The 2nd movie took the first one’s strongest points and built the movie upon that. You can feel and see the desperation (especially with Danny) in the fights against it, especially as he and the Predator become more and more wounded as time goes on. It was just an all around great action/horror/sci-fi movie and although it is obviously a product of its time, it’s still a great one.

This movie had some weaknesses but damn it was still amazing with Danny Glover's and Gary Busey's energy fleshing it out. I loved Kevin Peter Hall's more aggressive turn as city hunter predator code named GHost. Veteran actor the late Calvin Lockhart aka King Willie faceoff against Ghost is indeed the most memorable scene in the movie. Bill Paxton just brought heat no matter what movie he was in.

I agree; the review stands on it's own, the informative style and detail are enough to provide a quality review. The S&E segments are not only unnecessary but aggravating in their trademark cluelessness, one of them criticises a film about an intergalactic sport hunter for its violence.

I really love Danny Glover in this. He REALLY gives it a lot of energy. The scene after he is disciplined & he threatens Keyes is such a great scene. You really believe he is pissed off. I wish there were more African American stars in roles today but I guess Hollywood is just not interested in that market. It's everyone's loss though.

@@tonypass15 I have to agree to a certain extent. Schwarzenegger is a body builder & looks good on film, but Glover is an actor. His work on Lethal Weapon gave the films a certain modesty & class which Gibson couldn't offer.

Don't forget, it's a satire, with a black actor in a lead role. There are lots of good things about this movie, interesting things, not least Danny Glover looking like a white guy covered in dust at the end. I like the fact the monster has a taste for Yardies, and obviously he doesn't kill a pregnant woman, like a gamehunter wouldn't kill a pregnant female, as she produces next generation of game etc. I agree with the two comments below, this is an underrated sequel.

The comic you mentioned around 2:14 was called Predator Concrete Jungle and from what I remember reading it was originally the basis for Predator 2 until Arnold pulled out of the sequel. I was glad they used quite a few elements of that story for the final film that eventually did come out. It's a pretty good read and the novelization of the story is pretty good as well.

The King Willy scene is simply top-class. SO cool with the reflection detail. Thanks for pointing it out... Also - there's an aspect you didn't touch (maybe you haven't even considered it?) .. but as long as I can remember - I saw this at the rental release - I've had this feeling while watching that the Predator is actually kinda a semi-hero. He helps the LAPD wuite a lot by taking out the two major drug gangs which the police had a very hard time to handle. Imo he's the second hero of the movie - at least for the first half of it.

The creatures of the Alien and Predator movies are so good, a film quality level of Predator 2 (or Alien 3) is perfectly adequate to carry the awesome world building and extraterrestrial genetics mythos it needs and what I mostly require! Though Prometheus, AvP, and AvP:R were real stinkers, especially the latter two which were real letdowns too. And let's not mention the disgusting abomination of Resurrection....

I did not see this film until many many years after its release and at the time I approached it with low expectations in the manner you suggest, and therefore did find it enjoyable. I have to say, though, that the crazy outtake musical number with the predators now counts as my most enjoyable predator moment; never thought the predators would actually make me smile. I think a Predator musical should be greenlighted. LOL.

over the years it's grown on me. Watching I realize its a clever play on "Dante's Inferno". One of the characters even say "It's Dante's Hell down here!!!!" Then everybody is always sweating and complaining about the heat, then Harrigan has to go into the bowels of the city to get the predator. And that score by Alan Silvestri is some of his finest work. granted all his early work was great it sounded "back to the futurish"

I was a fan of the original Dark Horse Predator and Aliens comics. When Aliens vs Predator came out, it was AMAZING! The art and story were second to none. How could the studio go wrong if they made an AvP movie. Right? Wrong. Instead of using the breadth and wealth of good story of the comics, Fox instead decides to err on the side of repetitiveness and make a movie based on the 'mouse in the dark maze' formula. Just like all of the rest of the Alien movies. Every single time, the protagonists are stuck in some sort of maze-like environment as the alien picks each of good guys off one by one. Very formulaic and most of all: boring. I shake my head all the time when re-reading the comics because they are so intelligent and good. Yet Hollywood does the same shit over and over and over. When will they ever learn. There is a famine of good movies and we are bombarded with stupid crap day in and day out.

+MICHAEL MAH PHOTOGRAPHY If they'd filmed AvP: Prey, with maybe a few tweaks, the AvP films would've been a fantastic addition to both franchises. As it is, most people have only seen them once or twice and have largely forgotten they even exist, which is for the best.

But AVP is based on the first AVP comic its just on earth and they switched the asian hero to a black. The setup ofc is different but there is also a old Alien comic with a identical setup, a lost temple in the desert. Overall i liked AVP but the pasing was rushed and in the end it was just the a mix of the first AVP comic, a Alien comic and HP Lovecrafts At the Mounten of Madness.
