@@macemaster I was blessed from the late 90's through the mid to late 2000's to have many opportunities to train, work out and hang with many of the big names of the mma world back then. Being a fighter myself it afforded me many opportunities. In the beginning stages of that I was a "fan boy" that collected autograhs and the like, but later it wore off and too me they were, all be it famous, just normal training and hang outs.

situational awareness is a bigger factor in prevention than people think. I'm amazed at how clueless people are of what's happening around them. is the dude alone or is he with others? are they willing to back him up or is he on his own? when the rest look away or down when you look at them it's pretty likely they won't help the dude harassing you. of course, the longer you stay in the situation the bigger the risk gets. don't keep on arguing needlessly. walk away or finish it quickly if you can. then there's also the ability to switch on. to me this means the willingness to inflict damage and really hurt someone. I don't like to fight but if someone is out to hurt me or my family, all bets are off. I've been told my look changes when provoked too much, never seen it myself but I've had people freeze up, turn around and walk away. and of course the question is: what happens when you're confronted with violence? most people collapse and look like a deer caught in the headlights. when it's go time tunnel vision can arise. the ability to have vision and clearly see what's happening is a major factor for survival. it helps when you're used to fight situations so you won't buckle like a wet rag. not many untrained people are able to maintain vision and awareness in a fight situation. go to a boxing or muay thai class. it will help. but the best way to be safe is to just be Don Frye lol

These are all great for someone who is athletic, strong, big, and already has some level of basic self defense training. For the average "civilian" who has never thrown a punch in his or her life, the best defense is still to be at home behind closed doors after dark whenever possible. The next best is situational awareness augmented with a LEGAL weapon that you are comfortable with. Pepper spray comes to mind as it is legal everywhere in the United States.
@joachimcoonan6255
@joachimcoonan6255 5 ай бұрын
What do you suggest for people living in Australia, or the UK or the like? Regards weapons, it is in truly understanding the principles and application of a given weapon, that is applicable to other weapons also. A lot can be said for awareness and training in the art of using improvised weapons....all manner of objects in all sorts of environments assessed for their martial potential.... Whatever weapon (s) one chooses to use, be it the natural weapons of the human body, or a weapon individually chosen, one should be training in the use thereof....Fast access, ( even to something like pepper spray) should be always emphasized. Ones legal standing in regards to using said weapon should be surely and deeply understood....( Actually researched, and fully understood...), without question (!).... Just a few ideas to think about. Will no doubt lead the intelligent people to further insights from there..... Walk in Peace, my brothers and sisters.

As an Eskrimador, and lifelong martial warrior for over thirty years, with many years spent in a wild life style, that saw me in literal combat, life or death, and much street awareness, etiquette and experience coming to pass. Mind, I have never been a bully, but confronted them in all manner of circumstances, including stints in the prison system.. with an intense mindset and deep inner rage and hatred for such types along the way...[ There are reasons for Everything...].....), I feel that it is necessary to try and make people aware of the reality of such paths re: choices in life, and the level of responsibility that mustneeds go with the decision to carry any given weapon, and to engage an opponent therewith, and all that follows. Be aware also that a weapon can get YOU killed also....Either as a response to your deploying it, disarming you, and/or smashing your head in ( a proper hard bastard brah!) as he deploys his own weapon in response, or in a revenge action for any damage you may inflict upon his own or his friends personage, among other possibilities.... Just a little food for thought. I worry about people who don't know about or consider these things, as it is cold hard reality. My own journey taught me many of these things through first hand experience. A measure of forethought, and awareness, along with advice given by those who had gone before me, helped me to make it through, and keep landing on my feet, despite tremendous odds, as I skipped across the stream of this lifetime, like a rock across the water.....Hard and fast events coming at me just one after another..... Mi Vida Loca!! Anyway, this has become a novel. I hope that it helps Someone out there to think a little for themselves upon these things, do some research, and maybe even consider taking up an art like Eskrima, for awareness of how ALL weapons work, etc etc
