Caught the biggest bas of my life on a 9 foot rod with a penn 550 with 12 lb test. 64 lbs on a teaser, it's all about experience and how much time your in the suds. I agree, if your targeting bigger fish up the gear but you can land big fish on lighter gear. It just takes experience. I'm 62 years old and have been surf fishing for over 40 years. Caught many 20-25 lb fish on a 7-8 foot rod, it's how you fish not what you fish with.

I use a 9ft ODM DNA with VR 150. I also have the genesis which is a better performing rod. However the Dna has a slightly better feel because of the 60/40 split compared to the 50/50. (my opinion)

I completely agree, I’m a bigger fan of the DNA feel with the 60/40 split....I will def make a video about my 10 footer paired with my vr 125 sooner than later 💯💯

@@surfcastingtheisland4914 most the dudes that trash talk about it don't afford another reel i got the vs200 and vs250 but I do like to switch up to the vr150 🤬 thing is light and feels comfy and it's a power house and I didn't convert to to bailess on my vr150 thought about it but said na let me keep the bail on it for now to take breaks from other reels

@@surfcastingtheisland4914 wish everyone could have one ppl forget its like if ur not going in the water yes ppl I said in the water!!! w waves smacking ya and your dunking the reel ... you get the point no real reason to have a vs well u still can have one because the salt moisture in the air regardless... but most of us who on vs dunk our reels we fish in the water over 75% of the time !!! this is the major difference to me I've had Penn nice reel but it doesn't hold up as long as the vs do at all

@@ilovenythismuchilovenewyor5801 I fish waist high open beach and Montauk nothing extreme but my reel does get dunked during a session. I have an older Spinfisher and its always gritty after. Thinking about the VR or the VS. VR looks very cool but worried about the dunking and the anti reverse.
