On Friday 29th October 2010 Preity Zinta received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of East London for her humanitarian work and her contribution the arts.

It's an "Honorary Doctorate". An honorary degree acknowledges someone who a university committee deems worth honouring, by offering them a special (albeit mostly symbolic) position, in the university community.

So much respect for Preity. When Salzman Khan hunted and killed some protected deer many years back, all his cohorts (leading Bollywood heroines and heroes) were scared to speak the truth. Preity alone did. She was also brave when the Bombay Dyeing heir abused her in their relationship. She bounced back and has been very successful both in her personal life and professional life. Definitely an inspiring for Indian women. When I first saw her on TV in 2000, I thought she was.very beautiful, even by NIndian standards. But I realized that she is also a woman of great substance, strength, and character.
