Apply 2 coats gardz sand with 120-180grit sandpaper in between coats.

Hi Steve, would all residual glue need to be removed before going to sanding? We've removed all old wallpaper/ lining paper however still a very thin film of glue. You only really notice it when wet after we've cleaned the walls.

Give it a sand when dry then another wipe down, it should be fine. to be honest i have always just sanded it and never had a problem.

Apply 1x coat gardz for lining. 2x coats if painting the wall Fill and sand in between coats. Perfection will follow. All due respect, old school methods and times have moved on with better methods.

What is the purpose of sizing the wall? Should it still be wet when putting up the lining paper?

Same question - does it need to be dry or still wet after sizing the wall? Trying to sort out some really awful walls with wallpaper that has to be well over 30 years old on them 😭

Sizing's main purpose is to improve adhesion and to stop the wall from absorbing moisture out of the adhesive prematurely, allowing you to position the wallpaper before it dries. And yes it needs to be dry before applying the paper.

Do you use wallpaper paste to size the wall? Can we use pvc for this instead? If sizing is done using wallpaper paste, do we let it dry and then stick the lining paper?

@Stephen Smith . You can bud. I think the mix would be about 1 part pva 4 parts water. The research i did about the paste and pva seemed even.

Give a good sand first, then I would use the Johnstones aqua undercoat and top coat system, ie gloss or satin.

I stopped using easifil60 years ago. Too soft, take an eternity, to dry when over 2mm deep, and always sinks and cracks. Toupret all the way.

I love the easifill 60, i have used some Toupret in the past i found it was a bit harder to sand, and it two took a while to dry, there are probably beter toupret fillers out there, than the one i tried.

@Inexteriorstv it is a bit harder to sand, but seeing how clean your filling is, there is no need to worry about that. The benefits of the toupret joint/skim/fill/are: ¹No fill depth limit. ²No shrinking or cracking (unlike easifill which always shrinks and cracks and is only useful for surface skimming) ³There is no need to spot prime. ⁴it only takes longer to dry in cold or deep fills. (Use a heater) Only down side is it is a bit harder. That's the point. Easi fil on top of it if you want to reduce sanding time😉 I also would have used gardz on the wall before 1st sand and fill. There's a gem for you.
