Preparing wheat for carp fishing. Another video in my particle fishing for carp series. Wheat is a brilliant carp bait and fishing bait in general. It's a very cheap carp bait and it's easy to prepare so watch this video in full if you're interested in how to prepare wheat for fishing and how to catch fish with wheat on the hook.

I work in a flour mill and i will take a few kilos of wheat home every now and then to use as fishing, i also add some strawberry jelly powder to the mix when its all done just to add a bit of flavour, i think wheat is overlooked as a class bait these days.

Hiya mark its me again hope your ok. Ive been getting into this fermenting game and just wondered if you have ever tried putting some of the boiled water from the wheat in a sealed jar for a few weeks,it will stink but a little over the feed or hookbait is definately worth a try and can be done with any seeds a spoonful of sugar helps the process.👍

hi robert, i've used particles after a few weeks when they stank a bit but i couldn't say they were any better or worse than fresh?. with no clear advantage to either i have to say fresh is best for me, simply because it takes less time and i don't have to deal with the smell👍 😁 i've used sugar in the past but i don't bother these days and i've tried keeping the water but saw no advantage in that either, they just seemed to make thing more complicated and/or expensive for no real payback?🤔

hi jenna-lee, in the uk we call it 'the method' cooked wheat in your pack bait should work really well for you. i'm not sure what the carp fishing is like over there, if you have lots of them and bites are very frequent then it will work well. if you have to wait hours for a bite then bread paste may not be the best bait for the hook, maybe try something harder like a boilie or a tiger nut if you can get them?.

are you serious?, that hook popped out relatively easy as do most barbed hooks, no lips were pulled off that fish and there's nothing wrong with it's mouth. just carrying on from my last reply simon, there is place for barbed and barbless hooks in fishing. Barbless are best suited to busy commercial venues frequented by match anglers, they are great for small fish like roach and skimmers, I've no problem with barbless for those types of waters or fishing. I do have a problem with them for big carp though, they are heavy fish and they fight hard, I've had fish that have taken up to 40 minutes to subdue. During long protracted fights a hook can come under pressure from many different angles as a carp kites, changes direction or shakes it's head as some do, under these conditions a barbed hook is the best choice as it will hold in place better, a barbless hook is more prone to moving or slipping and causing a tear in the flesh and/or pulling out and the bigger/heavier the fish the more likely it is to happen. None of the waters I fish have a barbless rule, that rule is mainly for overstocked commercials, one did but the mouth damage done to the carp was very bad, barbless hooks were identified as a potential cause of damage so the ban was lifted, 10 years on the situation has improved, some fish still have historic damage but overall it's nowhere near as bad as when the barbless rule was in operation. I've fished some very heavily pressured circuit waters in my time, everyone uses barbed hooks and the mouths of the carp are immaculate despite repeated captures👍 Take the fish in this video, it took 10 minutes to subdue, it repeatedly try to get into reeds on the right or under trees to the left, it kited both ways repeatedly and made some long runs against the clutch, take a look at the hook hold, it's nailed in the bottom and hasn't moved or torn any flesh, had that been a barbless hook I wouldn't be at all confident of the same outcome. This is a specimen fishing channel and I fish for specimen sized fish, they have bigger and tougher mouths than smaller fish and a barbed hook is the better choice when fishing for them👍 Just to add to my previous comment, I removed that hook with just a thumb and forefinger, you might want to consider that before you say the amount of force it took to remove it was cruel because it wasn't👍
