If you want an underwater cache, that's fine, just make sure it's under a few feet of water only. Something you can get to without scuba equipment.

Its more efficient and effective to bury it underground or in a storage container than having to use precious oxygen tanks each time u go diving. Those items werent even enough for survival

Just in case the lose access to everything. Like their diving equipment... They will know where stuff is they can not get to. LoL and I am already ignoring the fact you would probably need a freaking crane or a boat with a winch to get it up.

Water reduces the weight by half and with a simple under water balloon set up, you could easily float it up. More importantly, a CO2 fire extinguisher will sink but the expanded gas in said balloon will easily float that. And diving down 15 feet is nothing even without scuba gear.

what if someone stumbles upon them when there fishing? what is they get covered in coral/seaweed n stuff!? if there so heavy that no one can get them out, then how are they guna get them out? honestly this makes the 'crazy' people building bunkers underground almost sensible and normal! lol!

You think plastic stormwater tube would not rust and be able to be opened with a hand saw? Also the bottoms of lakes catch fallout.

I watched all the prepper builds from national geographic, they all have in common to lower your chances of survival lol ! For this one, how are you going to get it out ! How are you going to open it with no electricity ? How do you know your flimsy welds will not open somewhere under the quite large water pressure over the next months ?! And the contents are burned since they welded it shut anyway as said before so once again, this build will lower your chances of survival, well done....

150 pounds? This is sort of like when you buy a product you can't wait to open, only to discover that it is so well packaged that it's nearly impossible to open.

I guess they didn't think about the plastic materials inside the cylinder when they welded it shut... I can tell you this, It has been ruined :) And there is enough air inside that Cylinder to sustain a small fire for a small time :)

there is many problems with this. finding it but you could do that with practice. retrieveing it. again possible with tons of practice. the welds on the canisters were terrible. won't last too long. the contents were probably melted or burned by the heat from welding the cannister closed. those canisters are also going to be impossible to open with out power tools. the metal that was used is not rust resistant. and finally if this were actually prepping it would not be on national TV
@sawman209
@sawman209 6 жыл бұрын
Cool idea but as others have stated, the welding may damage the goods inside. 150 + pounds could spell disaster if you need food or whatever you have in there but just cannot retrieve it. Also you would need at least an angle grinder or gas powered multi saw to open it which may not be available at the time you need those things most and the sparks from that would probably damage or light the plastic bags in there on fire. A barrel that can withstand high pressure or maybe an underwater air bubble dome could store barrels or other water proof containers safely, wouldn't need excessive weight and would be easier to access.

I seriously doubt those welds are waterproof. It is very difficult to make waterproof welds with MIG, especially when the container is submerged in the water (very high pressure)

I can't say that I would go about it this way but everyone to their own I guess. I don't think you could call any of this stupid, I mean it beats death or making no attempt doesn't it. You did see him in scuba gear, maybe he just swims out and hooks up a cable to the recovery hooks and drags them in. I wouldn't store all of my stuff here but it may be a good last resort when your shelter has been overran or your out of supplies. But seems as if he could have planned a little better when it came to the water cache.

Have you hater trolls that say "that all his stuff will be burned" mabey if he was a wise prepper he would have saved a few inches on the end and bought one or 2 fire proof torch mats ( for soldering pipes ) and covered the end of your goodies with them then the last couple inches put filler, wood blocks, fiber glass, rocks whatever just give enough space so the fire/heat from sealing wont spread to your goodies.

So in the full episode he’s prepping for a tsunami and that’s fair and all he does live in Alaska but a tsunami that big would snap those chains like twigs even if they don’t the bays gonna look a lot different after the tsunami with all that dibre so yeah in his preposed doomsday scenario these caches are affectivley useless

this is an idiotic prep imagine in an emergency..one of your family needs to get it and he/she has to get that underwater .. making it very dangerous for him..this isjust loonacy... i rather put them in the garage dress it up as a somesort of weights so it wouldnt look like a stash of equipment plus its sealed you would be needing a blow torch just to open that thing... thats a waste of time and resources..
