I worked in the same warehouse for over 24 yrs. Wasted years ill never get back. Nothing but highschool drama, and piss poor pay. Finally at 49 yrs old- i got my class A license. Now, my office is the inside of a truck. Just me and my music. No dirtbag coworkers, or shit managers to deal with. Wish id done it 20+ yrs ago. HIGHLY recommend

I’m a black college graduate who would be laid less than a white boy without a college degree if I worked for corporate America, but homie don’t play that- so I employed self when I worked, but now I’m retired and live off taxes of those who are favored by the system, and I’m loving it since retiring at 45.

I'm a commercial locksmith in Dallas. I've worked for myself for 15 years. No employees no shop. I made 149,000 in 2022. I work an average of 45 hours a week. I learned long ago self-employment is quality of life. Don't get a worthless degree, go to a trade school.

Threaten to fire me, dont care, STFU and do it, dont tell me about it, do it or F off. Im here to do a job, not babysit all the adult children around me.

Freedom is the true wealth! You've got to make a few sacrifices to get it. Building yourself a financial foundation first makes it less stressful. I'm in my 50s and quit at 35 to follow my passion but I first grew my savings and portfolio to about 450k. My investments continued to increase and provide me with passive income till this day. While you still work HYSA and investing is a great tool

Yes, yes, yes to all of it! I've worked in banking all of my adult life until 2020. My last six year position, I had to train new hires that came in making more than I did. The being treated like a child, the constant meetings and role playing. The public was a horror show. I had customers cuss me out and call me names regularly, throw things at me, steal things off my desk and try to physically attack me. They came in drunk and on drugs and were sexually explicit . There was a homeless person camped out in our restroom one day and my boss told me to go in there and get them out. Me, a five foot tall older lady! I'm self mercifully self employed now. Never, ever again. Ever.

We are not designed to work 9-5, 5 days a week. That leaves barely any time to actually live!! I work a zero hour contract job and live off grid, I’m broke but happier because I have time to do side hustles, sit and have deep creative thoughts, and stop to smell the roses. If a working week was 4 days a week, 6 hours a day I could hold down a full time job, but these days companies advertise for 9-6!! Where do they get off squeezing every last human battery hour out of us? It’s not worth it, just be less of a consumer and more in touch with nature and it’s a more positive existence. Unfortunately too many people are money oriented and like designer things that the system stays geared towards more work hours.

Gaslighting is alive and well in the workplace. I worked for a company for 25 years, then new management took over and my workload doubled. True, it's a socially acceptable way for women to leave the workforce. Unfortunately, if a marriage breaks down though, the ex-husband can end up supporting an ex-wife for the rest of her life, as if she's a child, because she no longer has any marketable skills. This can be the case no matter what the cause of the marriage breakdown and the fact that she chose to leave (and stay out of) the workforce isn't usually taken into account by the courts. Custody and spousal support laws in the United States need to change...

When I was in my early 30s (I'm now 71) I applied for a secretarial job. I didn't get it but they offered me a bookkeeping job. I told the interviewer that I had no bookkeeping experience but they still gave me the job anyway. The boss was a real control freak. I was very sick with the flu at one point and she told me if I didn't come to work I'd be fired. So I came in (I hoped I gave her the flu--not really, but it did cross my mind.) Later I got fired because I didn't know how to do bookkeeping! The gal who got the secretarial job had to lug her heavy computer home because they wanted her to work extra. She got fed up and quit. It was the dumbest job. It was at a company that sold financial computer programs but I had to enter items into a paper ledger book by hand--just like 100 years ago. I've had other jobs with nasty bosses, but my comment would be a zillion words long so I won't write about them.

I have worked in call centres and it is soul sucking. I have also worked as a professional accountant and have been fired because of a crazy screaming manager. I also worked as a temp worker in accounting, I realised that there are a lot of toxic workplaces and they will fire a person for anything. I would sometimes come in and take over a job the next day after a person was fired or got sick and learn the accounts within a week. That's how replaceable you are. There is no 'family' at work, no loyalty, but get you give your best hours and behaviour to your work and come home tired and cranky for your family. No, I will never work a 9-5 again.

The amount of staff and administrators that did what they could to throw others “ under the bus” was unbelievable. You had to have 20 years in and be 50 years of age before you retire; and both hit at the same time for me and I was out of there. They had to hire 2 people to replace me by the way. Now I work part time in a school cafeteria… weekends, holidays, and summers off… yes please!

I left corporate America 5 years ago because NOBODY WANTED TO WORK! I was in my mid 40s and so were all my coworkers. Most of the employees put more effort into pretending to work than doing actual work -- and I was the guy pulling the weight of 3 or more people, doing critical path worth, and threatened with weekend work -- since the stuff I was working on was the most critical. It was both high stress and disgusting at the same time. I was livid. I was making maybe 10-15% more than the slackers -- but it wasn't worth it. The boss wouldn't do anything about it. That job lasted nearly 8 years. The job before that was largely the same. I figured if I'm going to work my ass off, stress out, and have my health deteriorate, I might as well work for myself. I'll sleep on the streets, under bridges, and in the gutter before I go back.

Only given 4 weeks paid sick pay so had to go back to work before I was ready this resulted in a second heart episode and another hospital visit. Now much happier on a fraction of the income I was on and discovered what’s really important in life. It’s amazing how much you buy but don’t need when you’re working and when you sell it you don’t miss it one single bit! My advice pay of your mortgage and debts and you can be free!

Worked as an RN for 30+ years. In the beginning, it was about the patient, as it should be. As time grew, I could see the shift from patient centered care to staffing cuts-work harder with no raises, changing shifts affecting child care, forcing one to take positions that they don’t want or over qualified/ under qualified for, demeaning management, threatening, bullying, etc. I could go on and on! RNs have it hard!!!It’s stressful! Management sucks! Do more work with less staff and still get no patient complaints. ENOUGH! I quit! Nursing is not about patient care. It’s about the almighty dollar! ✅ DONE!

I am 41 and I quit my career of 17 years in corporate finance last year. I've never worked in a call center, but working in the corporate world, as glamorous and snazzy as it sounds and looks, is like being in high school, really! You have the whining princesses, you have the lazy ones who do nothing but always seem to get away with everything, you have the boss's pet who gets the best projects and then gets promoted, you get the honest workers who everyone steps on, you get the backstabbers, the perverts and the psychopaths. Nobody is really safe from anyone else. The work, although physically safe, is soul-less and mind-numbing, you are literally a slave chained to your desk, and you are supposed to be happy that you have a job and be thankful for the slavery. True story: I worked at one point at the world's biggest commercial property management company, and every quarter we would get these emails about how well the company is doing, is expanding, is making record profits, winning contracts, etc, etc, so when it came time for the performance review at the end of the year and I asked for a raise, I was told that employee raises 'were not in the budget'. And this happened when I KNEW that management were getting bonuses for the great work that the EMPLOYEES were doing! This is the mildest of all the stories I could tell you about working in the corporate world. First class, modern slavery.

I worked for a TV news station for 8 years and when the pandemic hit, I quit my job. The straw that broke the camels back was when the CEO mentioned in a meeting that he thought about paying off everyone's vacation time but instead decided to have us use it instead. I was furious because there wasn't enough workers that could fill in for vacations, they forced half the workforce to stay at home, there was no way in hell we were going to use our vacation time that year, it was use it or lose it, that was about 2 months into the pandemic with no end in sight. The BLM riots happened and it was like Covid-19 disappeared. The media was calling Conservative protests super spreaders a few weeks prior to the BLM riots, it was so stupid and so destructive, I have no freaking clue why the media sided with the violence it was sickening. The damage was really bad, people's life's were destroyed and the media flamed the hatred, there were days where I almost walked out of the control room, I could barely direct the newscast, it was soul crushing how the media handled that. There are very evil people working in the media, I remember when Trump killed that Iranian leader, the newsroom got all excited over the possibility of WWIII. Producers had gigantic smiles at the possibility that we were going to die in war.

Plumbers, electricians, mechanics, even carpenters. they’re all needed and in my area there’s a shortage of all these positions. I’m a self employed land surveyor and I’ll never work for anyone again. Work out of my house, no commute, and work as much or as little as I want. Take vacation when I want. The only downside to it is you have no pension, paid retirement program, or paid insurance. But it’s still the way to go as most companies now don’t offer pensions and more and more are cutting insurance benefits.

They said it couldn’t be done. 6 months later an engineer got a bonus for designing it. 3. There were 4 areas in the section where I worked. The other shifts had one person for each section, on my shift I always ran 2 sections. I asked why no raise. They said because I was “happier“ running 2 sections. 4.
