Get 3" long screws and heavy duty striker plates for all your doors. Security film for your windows. Especially for your front door. I live in the desert where it almost never rains. There is a bush that grows here that is as bad or worse than rose bushes. They are all around my house. Battery powered door and room sensors for when you are sleeping. Great job you have done there.

This just got my feed, so I'm late to the party. A few things for viewers and not you. Long screws in your door hinges and strikes will greatly buy you time. 3M film on your windows will buy you time. All you need is time enough to get your preferred home defense in place. What stage was CCTV? Excellent step. And I absolutely lean towards not advertising I have weapons in my house.

Because I live in the UK, only criminals are allowed to defend themselves leaving good people vunerable. In response I have a wide range of "gardening implements" which I train with as well as martial arts weapons around the home in stratigic locations. Alarms and a dog. I pray for a change in the law but I know it will not come. So it is a matter of improvisation for good people while the filth continue to carry guns and knives in the street to prey on the defensless.

@ohauss 8 жыл бұрын
WolfSurvivalUK Experience is nothing but anecdotes. Statistics say that the "cowardly filth" don't tend to run from "those able to defend themselves" but kill them before they can defend themselves. The others have a chance to get away with their lives. A higher availability of firearms tends to go along with a higher rate of firearms use in crime, and consequently a higher rate of homicides. Because dead people don't shoot.

+Oliver H I have never seen statistics that say criminals go after the harder targets that can defend themselves and leave the weak alone. That sounds a lot like a liberal mindset. I don't believe those statistics you talk about even exist. Experience IS everything. If you were attacked and had a bodyguard, would want one that has experience dealing with that sort of thing or someone that just read a book about it? If someone told you that you had to pick a fight with someone, would you look for the weakest looking person or would you go for the biggest guy in the place that was open-carrying a firearm with a shirt that says, "Guns don't kill people, I do"???Your comments are just plain silly.

Even if some dogs could be easy to kill, they still brought amazing benefits for a prepper. My neighbor has two great danes and when he's there, the dogs are amazingly sweet and cuddly. When the neighbors aren't there, the dogs look and act like they want to rip my head off. fabtessari Well I am a gun collector and Gunsmith, so I have a ton of guns, not all are legal. Plus I have total almost 100 thousand rounds of ammunition because I target shoot for fun and on a team. So if the SHTF I am not too worried about protecting myself. I am not a prepper. I only stock up booze in case of a big snow storm lol. But the lady in this story with the Hurricane shields would be sitting in a good position as it would take a small army to get thru that. When the end comes, the end comes and there is nothing I can do to change it. I will do what I can and that's all I can do. I do have several years of military training and some of my weapons are military weapons. A few of them are against the law to own, but I don't care. I live out away from most people so no one bothers me. Actually if the SHTF, I would probably have several people wanting to come and join up with me. They would be friends so that's ok. They would bring food and weapons. If you can't help out others and your friends when shit gets bad, your not worth saving.

The best prepper tip I can give people for hardening their home on the cheap is to have 3 steps leading to every entry door into your home, just 3 steps up to a door and no porch ,also have every door opening outwards which triples the strength of every door because you have to kick in the door frame and not just the 2 morticed locks in door moldings ,having the 3 steps leading up to an outward opening door makes getting any force behind a battering ram impossible ,do those tricks as well as if you can't afford steel storm shutters have pre cut plywood to fit over every window both inside and out that you can quickly 1 way lag bolt up with a cordless drill ,we just finished fencing our entire homestead and adding 4 4ft high bollards to our driveway so when our iron gate is shut 2 bollards raise behind the gate and 2 bollards raise in front of the gate ,effectively sandwiched the gate between 4 immovable bollards we can still reinforce using a vehicle to make the approach to our home impossible by vehicle ,putting your enemy on foot increases your ability to repel an attack .

Honestly, your house is pretty darned secure. Like you said, any house can be breached. I would suggest an evacuation plan if you have not yet as a last resort with go bags to support you both. Have you considered edged weapons? If not, I would suggest looking into them. Kali or another style for close blade work is a good primer into how to most effectively use them. Also never hurts to have additional weapons for both of you, even if it's just a baseball bat.

You could use unbreakable leaded glass. In the house where I grew up, we had a panel next to the main entrance. At one occasion back in 1989, a fire broke out in the neighbouring house and the owner (working as a carpenter) of the house on fire were unable to break the glass with a fire axe.

You're on your way to a great start for your home. I like the idea of castle walls, with rosebushes that you have. Your outer perimeter of your property is actually your first line of defense. Whatever can be done to slow them down at that point is very important. I would suggest more climbing roses, you might even add blackberry vines. Hurricane shutters are really great, there are dual protection against human predators. And severe weather. From what you demonstrated in this video, I do see one correction that I would make. You want your bedroom to be more secure. The door Rod is not enough protection. It can be kicked in quite easily. I would suggest changing the door system completely. To a security door, one with a hurricane rating. These doors will even withstand a police battering ram. The next change that I would suggest, in your bedroom add hurricane rated windows. In conjunction with your hurricane shutters, will make your bedroom a safe room. This will give you the maximum amount of protection for your home.

Don't forget your roof. A shingled roof is accessed in seconds with a shotgun and a Florida standard terracotta roof is even more vulnerable. If you live in a single story with an attic crawlspace, the trick is to let an intruder access the attic and the shoot at the creaks overhead. Just another level you may not have thought of.

Utilize a basement too. Would be even better if you have a ground level window in the basement that you can put bars on. If they end up in your house and try for the basement, then you can unlock the bar and escape. Good planning on everything else. Definitely got some good ideas. Thumbs up ^

Your shutters are fantastic. If I may two suggestions for you to consider. 1. Driveway car alarm. Dakota Alert brand works really good. With one receiver you can have multiple transmitters with different tones. You'll quickly learn what area is for each tone, gives a lot of heads up. 2. Consider a pistol grip on the shot gun. Not because it's cool, but for indoors you can short stock it to shoot. Basically put stock over your shoulder and lay it flat. Put your face close to the receiver and just look down the barrel. Really shortens the over all length for sweeping the house. With a classic monte carlo style stock you will have basically shoot from the hip to shorten it, less accurate. Hope that helps.

There are many wireless motion sensors and lights etc now available online for not much money that might work. Plus you can add those window and door alarms when someone opens one. I used those in a rental apt I lived in once. Plus don't forget the old string tied to a pile of pots across a door opening, just to alert you to an intruder coming down the hall.

We are currently leasing a house because of my wife's job. We are a couple of hours away from the house we actually own and we know how to get there via a rural route. Even though we are leasing we still chose to make some security updates on it. We have a security system with it's own power source, backup lighting, and I also put security window film on all the windows. I put it on the front and back of the windows for double protection. I am going to reinforce the doors this week. I understand where my choke points are and my kill zone to use it to my advantage. I have a moss berg, a block 41 GEN4 pistol and a .308 Win 7.62X51 semi automatic. First off I trust in the Lord for His protection, but I do know that faith without works is dead.

How about replacing the front sign with "SMILE YOU'RE ON CANDID CAMERA" with some visible security cameras that have off site storage so the criminal cannot get away. Dog pack. Electronic ear protectors so you can disable the person's hearing. Extremely bright flashlight so you can disable their vision. Mace or gun and cell phone on person at all times. Gas mask & 2 oz tear gas at bedside to clear house. How about fire and smoke in the middle of the night when your shutters are down?

In place of the Mace, use Wasp spray. Mace is only good to about 8-10 feet and will fog and possibly affecting you as well. The Wasp spray will spray in a stream, about 20' and is very effective. It also requires an antidote only available at the local ER. It will not wash off with water.
@Eusebeia7
@Eusebeia7 10 жыл бұрын
Ken Rasmussen Wasp spray is a good idea for the home in addition to, not instead of, tear gas canisters for use on the whole home. For carrying at all times maybe in a working purse but not in a pocket. I am a disabled physician, all chemicals in the eye are treated with copious amounts of water. In chemical laboritories in the halls there are eye washing stations in addition to chemists typically wearing the largest sized lens. See KZfaq cold fission videos to see the old chemists giant eye glasses. At home for my own eyes I would flush my eyes with water then take ibuprofen 800 mg for pain. Eye patients in the hospital can have extreme pain from injections under the conjunctiva which lies over the sclera. Ophthalmologist also have topical anesthetics but it take time to go to ER much better to wash immediately. Time is critical!!! Netter's textbook on anatomy in any public library if the anatomy of the external eye is unclear to you. Also if anyone points a gun at you turn your back almost no one gets shot in the front according to a U. of Miami anesthesia resident I talked to.

I think the gate was your best move considering the front door you have. And of course the hurricane shutters. Most people don't have that type of money for the shutters, but many can have fitted plywood hurricane boards for those unnecessary side windows that the homeowners association can't see. Most architects don't have a prepper mentality.

HealthyPrepper I was thinking the best way to get into your fortified house, would be to go on roof pretending to do roof repairs, pop off a roof vent get access to attic, pop a inspection camera into each room. See where the valuables are, and where alarm sensors are (most are knee hight) once in attic you can also cut phone and power lines. I'd sugest you keep a pitbull in your attic, you never know the next roofer you see might be a assassin or someone trying to steal your cookies

Your layering is very good it allows you the extra time needed if something should happen. The only thing I see a problem with is publishing that you have weapons on the premises. It makes you a target by letting others know that they are there. When criminals were interviewed that is the number one thing that they look for. The use of various "defensive" plants around Windows not only helps to detour people to easier access points but also helps corral them for easier defense of the property. Very well executed defense system you are using.

They can be family pets, they will let you know in an instant where the threat is which is keeps you in a safe position and ready. Just a thought.

Removing the NRA and shotgun sticker and replacing it with an ADT security system sticker. Would deter those that would be so inclined while not advertising that there were firearms on the premises. In my area it is very common for burglars that find a gun safe to leave the premises and return several months later to do a home invasion. Where they force the homeowner to open the safe. Remember most guns used by criminals are stolen.

impressive; thanks for sharing. my dad is a retired police officer living in Florida & years ago while at work, his house was broken into & robbed, & this was with window guards. He said a determined thief will get in, but a person could slow them down or make it challenging so they'd perhaps go to another, easier, house. I've lived in apt 25 yrs, much of that time alone, & it is a downstairs apt, right off the alley, so yrs ago I installed window guards. I remember I got home from work 1 time..

Tom I have a place on Marco Island. Hurricane shutters are pretty common. And mine handle those hours of 90-130mph winds and rains from hurricane Irma with no damage at all and now I understand why my insurance dropped so much when they were installed. Security system comes with most homes. The stickers,motion sensors,and door jam is cheap on Amazon. Nice entry gate probably between 5-$10k powder coated I think which added to the homes value like those shutters. Don't have to be rich do do what she did. Really didn't see anything that make you think she's rich. Just priorities.

Great ideas!!! Another thing I do is, throughout my house, I'll have little stashes of self protection. For example, in one part of my house, I'll have pepper spray under a book, or a knife in a drawer. I know that sounds weird, but just in case someone came in (without me hearing them first), I'll have more ways to protect myself, no matter where I am in the house. (Until I can get to my gun, which I keep in my room).

you can't imagine how many videos i've seen where people store things like pasta that waste too much resources to make and do soooo many more idiotic things that in the end won't last much, I loved your personality and the way you openly admit that while they may not stop an army, they definitely help and any one of those defenses would definitely wake you up and the best part is you have LAYERS of protection, I truly don't see that enough, some people think it's enough to have just one when just one could be torn down in minutes, my guess is you would have no trouble taking on at least 6 men, and with support from your husband you'd have more than triple that amount, thank you for showing me there are some true preppers out there, no defense is perfect but the best thing is to admit and act upon it and imporve slowly :)

I helped an acquaintance reinforce a foreclosed house that people wanted to break into a while back, since they knew no one lived there and that there was copper pipes and wiring to steal. Simple 1"x2" cut to the length of the window pane prevented them from pushing or prying the windows up. The same could be done to sliding doors. I read in one of the comments that you already have the shock film installed, its great since it also doubles to prevent the glass from shattering if it was shot at.

I have put a iron security gate that separates the sleeping area of the house from the dining and lounge area . This will slow down the intruder should they gain access to the interior via the front of the house at night and protect my family while we sleep. A point of entry that people often forget is the roof which is more difficult to get to but once there easy to gain access to the interior.Putting a iron security gate in a passage will reduce the intruders chances of getting out easily once they have accessed the interior.

Heck my 1080 wide screen cameras,motion sensors,and security system batteries stays constantly charged by solar panels.

I have been working on my family's preparations for years now. I recommend to you the LDS Preparedness Manual. It has everything and is great place to start. It isn't the least bit preachy about the Mormon faith. You can get the whole thing for free as a pdf online. The pdf is great to check it out and see if it fits your needs but I recommend having hard copies of information like that. Amazon sells it for around $30; it is well worth the money. Good Luck.

Great video, great ideas. Guns are only legal for those who meet the requirements here. Such as having to have a gun-safe, paying a quite fee on a regular basis, etc etc (where I live that is). These weapons themselves are already rather expensive and then add on all the requirements..!

They do have that here, yes. You mentioned all kinds of martial arts in the video haha :) I used to study Judo, if you ever heard of it. Its a Japanese martial art, which uses the strength of your opponent and makes it his weakness. You know what, I will look into martial arts again and get back into it, thanks for highlighting them! Also I am thinking about buying a .25 air rifle. Biggest caliber we have available here (and is legal) and I have seen air rifles be just as deadly as any other firearm. Do you, by chance, have any experience with them?

A Lot of those Alarms are monitored by part time people with computer connections at home. I heard about alarms going off while the person who was supposed to be monitoring them was playing outside with their dog and a house burned down as a result. A neighbor finally called the FD. I briefly worked as an alarm salesman (very briefly).

Looknat upgrading all your doors to solid wood with steel ornheavy duty alumina core reinforced, so its bullet resistance too also look into a multi point locking door. A octa system locking door is best. 8 bolts. 2 top, 2 bottom, 2 left 2 right. Also besides upgrading the screws, also upgrade the hinges. I use 5 heavy duty steel hinges on my doors. The shutters are the best, get security/storm grade, you want combo shutters. Most are steel, and some have locking plates. Mini studs/bolts and are water tight too. I do not have any on my house yet, but I do have one that restricts access to my gun room. Remember, the home will only be as strong as the weakest point. Your door, can be a blast proof security door, as well as your windows, but most people forget about their walls. Ur door may be good, but a pickup through ur walls can do allot of dmg. Always looknat reinforcing walls.

also, if you have one or more kids, you should decide what the most secure part of your house is... the 'inner defensive circle' and run drills once in a while to get them there quickly. Once or twice a month I pull my son out of bed out of a dead sleep with a shout of "DRILL DRILL" and he has to move his butt while I take care of the rest. Just a thought for other parents.

3 inch screws on hinges and deadbolt plate of the doors to replace the short 3/4 inch screws will make it very hard for someone to kick in your door. Of course, if you have decorative glass for most of the door it's a moot point.
