In Texas, a lot of people already went through a dry run.

That’s a great idea. I’d do it if I didn’t have a family. My wife would never go for that.

What would you say the biggest thing you learned, or realized you need to work on to better prepare? Was there something that you’d say surprised you, that you might not have thought of, had you not actually done this practice run? I think this is a great idea, and I’d love to hear more about your experience!

I know a mom who trains her kids by watching and reading Laura Ingalls Wilder books and Little House on the Prarie shows, Anne of Avonlea, etc. (Among other ways of actual prepping, like hiking and camping with them, doing home fire drills).

Home prices shot up in value over $70,000 and folks put their homes on the market with the increase just to upgrade with the sudden fortune. Things that sat on the market for 6 months to 2 years were getting bidding wars and snapped off the market within 5 days. That $70 grand spike took 3 weeks.

Not even 150 years. I was talking to my 90 year old grandmother and explained what a prepper is and what they do. She said it’s just everyday life like when she was a girl. Her mother even sent her to the post office every week with cash to exchange it for silver because she didn’t trust the stability of the currency.

Absolutely! I have "prepping" buddy that boasts he has enough seeds to plabt for 10 years but, hasn't grown anything since he was a kid in 4H....🤔???

Last year was my wakeup call. I used to have a green thumb, but haven't even tried to plant a garden since around 2002. Last year, I bought some squash seeds and dug a small plot - grew big beautiful plants, but nothing edible. I found out just last week what I had done wrong, and the new garden (preparing now because "today isn't as good as last year, but better than tomorrow") will be about 4 times as large and have a variety. We'll see what grows and what is a learning experience.

I do this, I also leave the heating off when it drops in temp so my body gets used to the cold .

Here is a top tip that I have done.. Take 10 new pennies.. 1983 and newer.. File the copper off of one side of each. . Draw a circle around a dime, on a piece of tag board. To make 9 disks.. Soak them in vinegar. .. With the pennies facing the same way, put a vinegar soaked disk between each penny. And put an l e d across the stack. And wrap it up with elections tape.. The light will run 24 hours a day, for over 7 days. I think it stops because the vinegar dries out.. Although, , the zink that is on the inside was eaten badly... This idea is only for educational purposes only. . But as with all knowledge, comes power.

another Army trick: Ranger cookies out of coffee creamer, sugar, and crushed crackers ;)

If your equipment takes AA or AAA batteries, you can buy Energizer Lithium E2 batteries and leave them in the unit. They are lithium primary batteries, will never leak, and have a shelf life of 20 years. The only thing you'd need to worry about is if the device has a parasitic drain, even when off. Like something that stays on for time/date like a blood pressure cuff or meter of some type. Then you should absolutely leave the batteries out. I highly highly highly recommend the energizer lithium e2 battery for any prepper. They don't leak and last 20 years in storage. You can get them at sam's club for a decent price if you buy the 12 or 18 pack.

Yes, and if at all possible store your batteries adjacent to your flashlights, radios, etc.

Print everything out that is inside your control, use a refurbished dot matrix printer for they are economical for printing out everything. The internet will not be with us forever.

That's funny because people at work used to laugh at my husband and myself but like you this past year people started to call and ask a lot of questions and are now on board. Took them long enough but thank God they are now trying.

Excellent reply! I laughed out loud - we are of the same mind. The only reason we would bug out is if our area became unsafe but we would return no matter what after a few days.

Real talk John stay in your lane. I hear so many people talking about things there going to do with zero practice or in depth knowledge. I was in the Army and 1yr in combat Southern Iraq. U.S military rolled over the 5th strongest military in 2 weeks. Hunting animals and having 20 different guns will not defeat a government backed military. My answer is the same "Holly Spirit" nothing you can do at all.

Prepare so when the sirens sound... and no one responds. Eventually, Police, Fire, EMS will choose their families to protect.

True or not, even a little prep can go a long ways. Much of so called prepping is nothing more than the wisdom that comes from experience. Things like: having candles on hand for time when the lights go out; having shovels to move snow; buying smoke alarms AND fire extinguishers; having extra groceries so you don't have to run to the store because you're out of this or that; . . . .

Survival is a human instinct, not a lifestyle. Stop being a narcissistic prepper. Besides, if all your stuff was taken, what would you do then?

@@Cyb3rFck You make a pretty good point, most people will fall over dead. Unskilled people with Godless ways will turn to cannibalism and become savages almost immediately. I live on a small ranch with fresh water creek, trees, deer and seclusion. I equipped my main house with large wood heater/stove a few years back. My few living friends and I are all militarily trained and have been trading products and our skills and services for years. I'm prepped for most situations, but for what and how long? Nobody knows. Marauders will no doubt roam the area looking for prepped people. Yeah sure they'll get a fight, but I gotta go to sleep sometime. Just keep our souls prepped with strong faith, that's really the only prep we have, isn't it?

You have to attract a woman if you want one. Have you prepared to do that?

I suspect you are looking into the wrong faces or places. Try asking if they are doing work that they know they are good at and that leaves them satisfied at the end of the day. If not, ask them if they are working on the obstacles. Once that issue is settled, pay and environment don't matter much. Happy searching.

I write all my recipes by hand. I have offered to print them out for my children but all five wanted them in my hand writing. It’s hard work but I know it will be appreciated.

I did a binder one Christmas for my four brothers. I filled it with old pictures I had, sometimes you don't stop to think they don't have the same pics, I put recipes of moms from growing up since we'd lost her then we were all teens .. things like that.. I've been wanting to do a journal of things happening in the world since it's so crazy, our grandchildren may only get a glimpse we leave them with that is truthfully correct. I've written a few things down to work on and one is collecting lists of storage items w/dates and location. Plus recipes for any stored items plus I'm dehydrating things to add to my 25yr. Stuff so it tastes better and has more nutrition.

I have developed a library of how tos and a stocked many kinds of resources, including tools. I know and practice how to use them. One thing though, I don’t like being cold !

I hear you. I prefer to be informed no matter how bad the news is. A nice compromise is to, even if just in your head, blacklist channels that seem to be more about fear mongering and who's news or predictions usually end up being false. Ignorance is bliss, but can be dangerous for a prepper.

No one is apolitical because we will always have the necessity to politically mitigate our resources towards our shared survival & diverse ideals. Politics is the cost of living amongst one another, the cost of our whole family living in one solar system

@@AlyxGlide I agree. Trying to be apolitical is a bit foolish. Everything involves politics sooner or later, and stems from it. Politics influences everything, is at the root of most social problems and will be the source of much havoc if things go South. You will need to know who to trust, and that has everything to do with politics. It's just a fact of life, but I can see being turned off by it if you disagree with the politics of the person you're learning from. No one complains about any politics they agree with, and they usually don't even call it "politics" when they agree, just "facts". The whole reason politics can be so offensive is because it is behind everything important in our lives. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be so sensitive to it, or care one way or the other whether someone mentioned it or not. But it set's people off precisely because it makes so much difference to them.

I really like that geocache idea. I am planning on "wild" gardens, located in the interstate median (where they don't spray), to grow potatoes, carrots, peanuts, berries, etc. Places like that go unnoticed all the time. It sounds crazy, but with the widespread hunger in Venezuela, I can see the usefulness being realistic.

This is an unfortunate situation that has happened to Heather and it is a sobering thought that we as women could suddenly be without our prepping partner. Skills that they possess would be lost. Work together now to learn from each other so if we should find ourselves in this situation that we could be prepared for that scenario. Hard lesson to be thrust into suddenly.

Lots of ways to cook inside! Grab the two-packs of sterno (about $5) from the camping department in stores. Small cobblestones are about 75¢ - I have four for two locations. You can just pull a rack from the oven and prop it on the cobblestones with the sterno cans acting as burners 🙂. The other four are to elevate a camping grill over a fire in the fireplace, or if you have a hearth, you can use coals and put pots/pans/cast iron on them 🤗. I'd you tripod cast iron cookware with flat lids (or just flat rimmed lids) you can even bake💖.

@@drdianneLc A person can use cooking oil for fuel. Or gulf wax ( paraffin ) , roll corogated card board, and stuff it in a tuna can, and pour melted wax in the can. I learned to do that at boys camp, when I was 8 years old. And we used a V8 can for a stove to put it in. ( modified with a door and vents ) Haven't looked, but I will guess that there are examples on yt. I just looked,, it is called a HOBO STOVE.

Dollar Tree has Sterno we’ve bought several stocked.

At an older age what I've done is full up a good sturdy luggage with wheels that can be pulled if you absolutely have no choice but to leave. Add a few extra bags to that, like a sleeping bag.

@@jules-marcdavis6843 and some beat up clothing to look like a poor old geezer. A beat up wool overcoat is ideal. Coat and blanket combined in one and long enough to conceal most weapons. Cheap at Goodwill in the summer, if you don’t have one.

Yes! I’ve found quite a lot of references in the Bible to prepping. I think there are “ammo man” preppers and “ammo man” non-preppers, aka thieves. Whether they planned ahead for it or not, they’ll come to rob you.

That's why I work hard on community building. To know those who live closest to me and know that I will draw on their strengths and balance their weakness with what others can provide.

If you’re realistic, it will take many years and a financial fortune to do that...and you still won’t be prepared for it. The aftermath of a major EMP attack is barely survivable at best regardless of what you do because you basically have to be able to recreate your world. Seems to me, it’s wiser to take smaller bites. Plan for the disasters that are likely or common in your area, then begin to expand to prep for other things. EMP/nuclear war is apocalyptic. Optimistically, it’s barely survivable. Realistically, it’s not survivable. Even the BEST prepared wouldn’t last 4 years post-apocalypse. “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now-and never to be equaled again. “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:21-22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

@@totallyfrozen look up the carrington event. Basically a global emp caused by solar activity, that last happened when our use of electrical systems was very limited. Another similar event could happen at any time.

I keep the grocery adds, filler paper from shipments, old mail paper I just smooth them out for a large tote. I think they would come in handy for wrapping up dry goods In canning jars of we get earthquakes they will need a protection. then to cover/insulation for windows or whatever. I will use it for fire 🔥 starting also. Save your dryer lint and use it like cotton balls with vaseline in a tin for fire starting.. one less thing to buy at the dollar store.

It is good ! (i reckon) . That pic on the vid of a go bag all nicely organised on the car seat head rest, is kind of advertising. Heaps of "junk" / CAMOUFLAGE that detracts interest and conceals resources, is a valid game plan and a humble tactic.

Do not carry gasoline cans in your car trunk daily. It should be only a rate instance. Like already SHTF. Perhaps on long road trips. If you have a truck then easier and safer to have one in the truck bed.

Freeze dry or dehydrated food should be stored with one more safeguard put it in glass jars

On that same note... What is money? Money is solidified work. If you own a slave, you steal their work? If your money is stolen, they have stolen the work that it took you to make that money? So,, that makes money a tool of enslavement? So. When the economy goes broke, and all money is worth absolutely nothing. They will have enslaved everyone. That is,, everyone that has all their life and livelyhood tied up in money?

My x decided in his late 20s that he was voide of taxes and felt himself exempt. You have to have proof of income for any help down the road .now he can't qualify for SSI he can't get medicaid .his teeth are mostly gone.. and no savings no retirement ...I refused to go down with the ship. My kids needed both parents income to get school loans.that was the worst...

Agree so wholeheartedly. I have two children and a husband that have Celiac Disease. You don’t “train your body” to get over that. My daughter was given what she was told was a safe cookie. She took a small bite and hadn’t even swallowed when they came yelling at her that it wasn’t GF. She spit it out, never swallowed, brushed her teeth and rinsed her mouth. She was in bed 6 hours later and finally got out of bed 5 days later. I’m glad she didn’t hear this tell her to just get over it already. I’m disappointed with the callous way that was stated. I’m sure it’s just from ignorance of exactly what gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease are.

@@artyrae7781 I hate to hear that, I know it's so hard. Poor thing. most people don't understand unless they have personal experience with it. I don't have celiac but I have Lyme's disease that causes me to be intolerant to gluten, dairy, and sugar. If I eat them I basically become bedridden. It's bad. There must not have been all these problems before the last hundred years or we would have heard about it before now! Thankfully it's getting easier to find safe foods but idk what we'd do for a prolonged time emergency situation.

Technology can compensate for a lack of skills; this is generally understood these days, which is why such gadgets and gizmos sell so well. And it's why the big trucking companies switched over to automatic transmissions, so the tech can help accomplish what the people have largely never learned these days. "Prepping" is largely a mental discipline, and lifestyle change. Reducing your 'addiction' to tech and what the tech does, and learning to do the things by yourself, on your own, with little more than a rock, a shoestring, and maybe a pencil. Because preps are great, but if they aren't with you, then you have to figure out how to get to them, wherever you are, with whatever you actually have on you, and dealing with whatever it is life has thrown at you.

People like stuff,lots of stuff. You need to be able to survive with basically nothing and learn the skills to keep yourself alive. Btw I have lots of stuff😎

@@bli3366 Tech CAN compensate for lack of skills while the technology lasts. I'm not talking about the guy who buys a top of the line ferro rod or bushcrafting knife. GPS is an outstanding tool, until the batteries die or cell tower and satt link is obstructed. I know many people who are great with a GPS but can't tell you the cardinal directions on a map. Craw-walk-THEN run. How many people spend big bucks on the newest mega-lumen flashlight who have never grasped the fact that if you just let your eyes adjust you can see just fine in most situations? As for transmissions in trucking (as a 22 year driver), they went "auto" for two reasons, fuel economy and the number of new drivers who have never driven a manual transmission leading to increased repair costs (again... skills).

I agree...this advice...in this video...makes me concerned for her viewers. There are multiple ways for this idea to go very, very wrong. I for sure would not drive around like that with the outdoor temp topping 90 degrees F. The temperature in my car trunk, with my car parked in a parking lot...probably tops 115 degrees f. And there are other possibilties for a portable gas container catastrophe...like a serious, high impact collision with another car...or a rollover of the car with the filled to the brim gas containers. Car's own gas tank is designed to keep gas out of trouble even in a collision. Filled gas container in the trunk? Yipes.... Thank you for your well informed comment.
