In bricks, you style premade elements, such as Pricing Tables, in Theme Settings. There you find the settings that change the element for all instances of that element. This has been the workflow for a long time.
@AdrianSalvaggio
@AdrianSalvaggio Ай бұрын
You can also create multiple Theme Style profiles and set different conditions for each of those profiles.
@DesignwithCracka
@DesignwithCracka Ай бұрын
Still not a good workflow. Its unnecessarily complex and still not maintainable even with conditions. Let’s say you have two types of sections on the same page with two sets of pricing tables; one set on each section that require slightly different styling. How do you style each set via theme styles and conditions on the same page?

Bricks must expand class features to all elements. Currently, we really miss some stylings at class level for some elements. Also, I hope Bricks make it's component a very well configurable and complete way, so we have them all in bricks. Presets/Components are really useful, easy, and fast for both developers and customers, and I like to use them when I think it is good to use them. Combenation of them is good for developrs but I think chould be overwhelming for customers. So for them, I prefer to choose presets when possible, over the class system. What do you think about this Cracka?

Well presented video. "For beginners" is an interesting point of view. However, if there is a much better and faster way, wouldn't that be of better service to the "beginners" from the start? Breakdance is a fabulous tool, BUT when you pair Bricks Builder with the ACSS framework, you becoming an unstoppable, website guru who outputs new websites at an astonishing speed AND, critically important, you have enormous speed in maintaining them and for that matter, designing them from the start. I recently switched to Bricks + ACSS.... to be honest, I never new just how good it was until I tried it....
@DesignwithCracka
@DesignwithCracka Ай бұрын
ACSS is adding (or has added) support for Breakdance, so there's that. Both builders have the strengths, pros and cons. Breakdance enables most people to create website faster. One of the most important aspect of every single website is the menu, Breakdance offers a menu that works perfectly, looks great out of the box. Bricks shines when it comes to dynamic data, Breakdance dynamic data features is great, Bricks just has an edge due to the advanced features it offers for more advanced queries.

You compare 199 $ vs 550$ right now, which would you need to invest to get your outcome. Also, even with the frames add-on, you don't get that component workflow. You still need to handle a bunch of classes all the time. When you change settings in ACSS those settings apply to everywhere, where you used the ACSS variables, not only on a specific component. So it´s double the money and still not a better or faster workflow. There are other problems that comes with this frames method as well. In some of the website critic someone said seeing a site for 5 seconds, "this is done with frames, you can see that instant.." - But that is a general problem using wireframes. A much better workflow is to build your own layout set and then use it for your clients. - Then it is much more unique. This can be easy done with BD, it also works with bricks, but it does take much more time to open the template and insert them into a page, not a very nice workflow, also then you don´t have a component system and need again to mess with a bunch of classes. Not to speak of to hand that project to someone else or to clients itself. There are many more problems you will find out, over time, working with that system...

"you becoming an unstoppable, website guru who outputs new websites at an astonishing speed ... maintaining them .... designing them from the start" Breakdance doesn't need ACSS, to achieve this. ACSS just makes Bricks easier to deal with.

So wouldn't a combination of Presets for the box, background and so on with classes to override differences on a featured box be an efficient hybrid solution ?

Thanks for the video - very informative. I have Bricks & Breakdance, i'm still not sure which i prefer using. As you say - Breakdance is super user friendly, more targeted at beginners. This 2.0 update is great I think - the presets function you have shown + the classes shortcut (CLA) is really nice. Bricks is frustrating me a bit at the moment because of two things - the lag in the builder itself, and the terrible implementation of the menu system. Breakdance does not suffer from either of these issues - the interface and UI is much more snappy than Bricks (no lag) which can actually have a big impact on how quickly you can build. Breakdance also has a much better menu builder. Now with this 2.0 update - it is less obvious to me which I should be using. Bricks probably has better 3rd party template libraries - thinking about Frames and Bricksmaven. Breakdance, more limited options...

When you add a class to a pre-made component in bricks it adds it to the whole component wrapper so that's why it was not working there is no separation for each of the components elements (title, price, features list, button etc..) whereas in Breakdance when you create a so-called "Preset" it adds classes to each of the components elements in the background allowing you to change the design and have it reflected across all elements that use the preset, it's still using classes. So in Bricks for a pre-made component you'd have to know the classes Bricks uses for each element that makes up the component. For example in your case add a code element to the page and type in: .pricing-table-header { background-color: blue } Execute the code it should turn all pricing table background headers blue, change the color it should reflect across them all. Else you could create a pricing table yourself using Bricks elements and attach a class to each part and do it that way as well.
@DesignwithCracka
@DesignwithCracka Ай бұрын
Yes I know that. Inspection each element in the pricing table to know their selectors in order to use custom css to style defeats the purpose of using the builder controls to style them. It’s better to build from scratch on this case.

But is it? or is that just the way we've always thought because we didn't have any other options? I've been using CSS classes for years and really missed them in BD, but the product is so good I've kind of worked around it, and you can set up utility classes etc in BD. But Presets is a different way of doing things and I'm very much looking forward to learning how to make the most of it and speed up my workflow.

@@WannaBeMuzkant Have you used Divi lately? I'm just moving my last client off it. I know what you are saying but I don't have exposure to Divi so it doesn't mean anything to me. I can build great class solutions in Oxygen or I can use them in BD. Or.... I can use presets in BD. But my real point is this. I think we are moving into an age where perhaps knowing HTML and CSS is becoming less and less important. Sure it will get you out of a sticky situation but as these products get better we will rely on knowing raw code less and less. Plus, 99% of CSS code, JS, PHP that I write is boosted by AI. Yes I critically check it but syntactically it gets me where I want to be faster. Cheers.

at the minute 06:20. you didn't select the class name you have created in the second column that's why it didn't change. i think. in the bricks you should select the class name on both of them than you can make change globaly.
@DesignwithCracka
@DesignwithCracka Ай бұрын
Classes are global, I need only to select the class on one element, and changes will apply to all elements with the same class. You don't have to select the class on all elements, that would defeat the purpose of classes.

I've been playing around with Breakdance v2. I like the concept of the design presets, but the implementation is poor. The lack of inheritance is really frustrating. Without the ability to control child elements, it feels pointless.

It’s feels pointless if you want to use it like classes. But it makes sense with the prebuilt elements because this is where classes don’t work properly.

Very interesting. Thanks for the additional video. This is a pretty big shortfall for Bricks. I’ve been in the fence about which one to use going forward. BD feels just so much more polished (things just work the way it should) although I like the workflow of Bricks a bit better for adding and managing elements to the canvas. Also things like the lag in Bricks in showing changes to the canvas and having to reload the canvas to get element modifications to show drive me insane. I think I’ll be going with BD. Thank again, great videos.

I've only watched the first 6+ mins, but so far I'm not sure you applied the Class to both in Bricks; also I find it better practice to set the class and its name BEFORE I start making the visual customisations. Always works fine for me that way.

I think you are confused because I selected the class on the first pricing table, but didn't select the class on the second pricing table, and it does not matter that I didn't select the class on the second card, as long as the class was selected in just one instance, the styles should apply to all instances.

@@DomOsborne Yes I did the styling before applying the class, and it doesn't matter. Why? Because the ID styles were still showing up in the settings while the class was selected, and the styles were changing with the class selected, that's not supposed to be so! That means the styles does not recognize the presence of the class otherwise the ID style would prevent the styles from changing on the selected class/element. If you have Bricks, open it up and try. Even without any styles on the ID, classes don't work on that premade element.

You styled the first card in Bricks on the ID level. Then you copied it. After that you styled the first card again, but now using classes. Obviously the second card did not change because of this. Right?

@@DesignwithCracka Is it possible that you are using Advanced Themer and turned it off for that video? There is an option as you know to copy the style from the ID to a Class. Also Bricks as far as i know don´t show you those changes for other elements, without refresh, the class needs to load again in the builder, i think that might be the problem.
