US President Barack Obama has been given a hero's welcome by thousands as he stepped foot in his ancestral home in Ireland.
Around 3,000 people lined the streets of Moneygall to welcome the American leader, whose great-great-great grandfather was raised there.
Falmouth Kearney, a shoemaker, was born in the village in Co Offaly in 1831 before emigrating to America in 1850.
During the brief visit, Mr Obama visited the Kearney ancestral home and met the current family who live there.
They were also due to visit Ollie Hayes' pub to meet extended family members including representatives of the Healy, Donovan and Benn families.

I'm so proud of how humble the Obama's are. Inspire of all the prejudice behavior they've endured while he's been in office. NO other president or 1st lady will ever be this involved with the public.

For one thing, most Irish people are down-to-earth, warm, & care about regular people - not just the rich or powerful or elitist. The Democratic party in the U.S. is the down-to-earth party of warm people w/heart who care about regular people - not valuing only money & rich people & power. If the American political parties were European countries, the Democrats would be Ireland. The Republicans would be the bad parts of England's history of cold-hearted, pro-wealthy, elitist, might-makes-right.
