In an otherwise obscure northern corner of Co Offaly, there’s a stretch of land that will be known for decades (perhaps centuries) to come, as Barack Obama country.
The main Irish figures at the centre of Barack and Michelle Obama’s 2011 trip to Moneygall were under no allusions about the realpolitik reasons behind the President’s decision to visit their village - just a year ahead of his run for re-election.
But, six years on, as Obama approaches the end of his second term in office, Henry Healy (the 8th cousin) and Ollie Hayes (the barman) still can’t quite get over the level of engagement they’ve had with the White House in the years since that historic day: jrnl.ie/3174006

At 2:02 you can see the invites he's gotten, to a St. Patrick's Day celebration at the White House (also at 3:31), and an invite to the (presumably) 2012 inauguration.

THANK U Tube for giving us the the memories of what a X PRESIDENT and first lady supposed represent towards the 🌍🌎🌏 and its people. The countries gave this president and family love and compassion and respect and got it right back. Great country. Never been there yet but maybe 1 day. 🇺🇲
