It's still an epic moment. Think about it: NO ONE would've believed you, if you would've told him a year or two earlier, that the leader of the Soviet Union will stay side by side with the POTUS on the South Lawn of the White House as a warm and welcoming guest and listening to the anthems.

@@robicenco1 Indeed. Reagan was strong, but civil. Trump could learn a lot from him, if Trump could allow that he had room for self improvement. That said, Trump was definitely an improvement over the current President, particularly with economic policy, as well as national security. Reagan, is my favorite president, I believe. I would hope for another like him, in his character & determination to bring about the best the U.S. could be.

I completely disagree with You. Today Russia needs a strong and powerful leader like Ronald Reagan. Gorbachev was the most disastrous head of state in Russia's history; alongside (with) his "successor" drunkard and degenerate yeltsin they together exterminated the country of their own. If Hitler had been alive, he would have been awfully grateful to the both. Of course, at that time the relations between the USSR and the United States should have been changed to the better but without a total destruction of the USSR and unconditional surrender of the Soviet Union to its Western rivals. USSR/Russia, like any other nation in the world has vital interests which must be thoroughly protected by the nation's leadership. I am definitely not a supporter of Putin's regime, but I am quite sure that if the present-day Russia gets such a president like Gorbachev, it will cause the final collapse of a centuries-long global superpower.
@timlamiam
@timlamiam 3 жыл бұрын
@@denisdavydov9457 Gorbachev inherited a dying superstate and bowed it out gracefully, without starting World War 3. That is something to be commended for, even if it's totally understandable that his legacy in ex USSR states is mixed because he presided over a fundamental revolution in that part of the world.

To listen to these words with the hindsight of time make them so much more impactful. Nothing said on that platform had not been agreed before hand. The words/phrases that the Soviet regime would have found uncomfortable had obviously been agreed with beforehand. Reagan and Gorbachev were speaking with one voice there to set the stage.

@MICHAEL S - How old are you ? I remember the Reagan presidency as it was yesterday, TRUMP and REAGAN have practically the same policies book. You confuse personality and governing style with policies and effective leadership. What has changed in the last 30 years is the democrat party and the american left is they have gone totally socialist and radical progressive.

Don’t insult the legacy of Ronald Reagan by comparing him to a phony, lying, cheating, wannabe. Trump has no leadership, dreams only of being as great as Reagan and Lincoln. If you look at the policies and leadership style they are vastly different. Reagan was a leader, Trump is failed loser. Reagan respected all Americans and loved this country- Trump lives money and his base. He is a president for the 30%, not the majority.
