At a request i have re visted the common connection types. This longish video explains the difference between the styles, the 3/8" sizes and also the different quality of connections. Plenty of chat but you might learn something.

Great little vid Phill, I could of done with this info when I first started out, all the diffrent types of fittings out there and how to measure what you have for a replacement part, plus how diffrent seller's word there fittings is enough to fry your brain! Well done on a little introduction to demystify some of the confusion out there. I tend to stick to M22 fittings on both ends of my non marking hose as it doesn't take a minute to unscrew them and less to go wrong! On the end of my lance I have a QR turbo and vario nozzle, this will cope with most things so dont find the need to keep changing Lance's. Great info. Cheers M

Really nice video here. I typically run the Kew connection from lance to gun, and then I have a mini type qc at the end of the lance so I can change tips quickly. For the J-rod I have just a Kew male into female mini qc. That way I can put the J-rod on extended lances as well. In my country the "normal" qcs were found to be a safety hazard (I think due to bad testing), so I'm not technically allowed to use them. Don't tell anyone. ;)

The STD qcs are a norm here either that or the midi but people tend to use various methods without considering pressure ratings etc. The Tema stuff is rated for around 350bar which is more than enough.

Really enjoying your videos. I am principally a gardener but having been getting more and more pressure washing jobs of late so committed to a proper washer and also got an 18inch BE whirlaway. Having got both this week I discover that I cannot connect my hose to the SC. The SC has a M22 male inlet (quick release) and my hose is I think a 3/8 female quick release. Spent all day staring at screens of adpaters but dont seem to find what I want i.e. something with a female M22 QR and 3/8 male QR at the other end.. does that exist or do I need to screw 3 things together? Any help much appreciated as I more confused than ever.... hence watching videos on connections!
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, trigger assemblies on the whirlaways tend to be 3/8" BSP. Some companies will then add on some form of M22 fitment (shown in this video) without physically seeing what way they have rigged up your SC trigger I cannot say for certain, but it may be as easy as removing the M22 from the SC trigger and fitting a 3/8"BSP fitting (which should be a male). M22 fitments should be a screw style fitment rather than a conventional "quick release". If you want to drop me a picture of your SC trigger inlet I may be able to advise further. dirtydriveaway@gmail.com phill

Watcha Phil, a totally unrelated Q. I've recently acquired a SS 24" triple arm surface cleaner. I haven't had reason to take it out of the box as yet, but here's my Q. I have a GX340 coupled to a WS201 with an 045 nozzle size, delivering 15 lpm @ 200 bar. W/O having looked, I'm guessing the nozzles on this are going to be overkill for my pressure washer. If I swap them out, (if needs be), for 3 x 015 nozzles, is it even worth using? I got it for a steal tbh, so depending on your answer, (and I know you have a bias for the Falch Pointspeed 5 ;) ), would I be better off just selling it on? As a side note, I also have 2 GX390's at my disposal. Do you know if it's possible, (not just physically), to hook one of these up to the WS201? Feasable? Higher flow rate if it is? Cheers fella.
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 4 жыл бұрын
Hey OTC, the ws201 will only output 200bar at 15lpm regardless of what engine you connect it to. You can use a bigger pump like the ws202 which is rated at 21lpm and runs great on the 390. As for the triple arm, the problem is with the 3 arm is your splitting the power/flow by 3 meaning you'll only get 66bar at 5lpm per nozzle at full throttle providing you can reduce the nozzle size that low which I don't think you can. Pretty sure the smallest nozzle is an 025 which 3x those gives 075 nozzle which is way too big so in reality the 3 arm won't do anything on your machine. I'd be surprised if it barely spins up enough to do much. Sorry geeza. Phill

Hi mate. Just wondering if I can pick your brains. I recently purchased a GX 390. Problem is all the connections are the large Type. How can I convert to the regular 3/8 that everyone else seems to use. I have one of those ball valves but can’t use it Thanks for any advice
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway Жыл бұрын
The larger ones are known as std 3/8" the smaller ones are midi. The midis are cheaper, have single o-rings and are basically often used on machines less than 200bar as they are cheaper to supply. If you are referring to the black screw type then these are Karcher M22 fitments. They don't last long to be fair and are prone to leaking. If you want to send me a picture of what it is you have I can help further. dirtydriveaway@gmail.com

Hello Phil. i want to convert a wheelie to baffle tank for pressure washing.not sure what connections i need or sizes. would it be possible to run a 1inch outlet. my machine is 255bar 15ltr min. thanks
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest most people who use a wheelie bin just chuck the hoses into the top. Wheelie bins aren't overly thick which can make some permanent connections a bit weak. Are you thinking of adding a 1" female outlet at the bottom? If you are it sounds like you might be making work for yourself. I'm assuming you want the washer and bin out the van as apposed to a full on van based setup.
@jimmyjones627
@jimmyjones627 2 жыл бұрын
@@DirtyDriveAway morning, i could just put them in the top. my machine takes too long to suck it up most of the time it wont suck at all. thats why i want the connections on the bin itself. i could use a tank in the van but as i do other jobs as well i need something more mobile as i may have to remove it i dont want to be taking a big tank out all the time. have you any ideas what i need to convert the bin. been to the local diy shops i just dont no what to get or sizes to get. @DirtyDriveAway 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmyjones627 OK so your pump isn't powerful enough to draw it up itself. Do you have a return to tank unloader? I mean you could fit a 1" bulkhead fitting to the bottom and then fit some form of attachment to connect it but you would ideally then need to use a quick release fitting as most of the time hoses are jubilee clipped. Something like this fitted near the bottom. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nickel-Plated-Brass-BSP-Bulkhead-Fitting-/193610585012?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 You will then need some form of quick connect like a banjo camlock but threaded to go into the bin.

@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmyjones627 at the least you will need a bulkhead fitting to give you something to thread into. So long as the hose your using is the same size or bigger than the inlet on the pump you'll be OK. 1" is good but it's pretty bulky if being moved about.

@DirtyDriveAway

Only valves on my washer is the unloader and the safety relief valve. If your safety valve is letting water by then it could either be excess pressure in the system (the unloader should come in 1st though) or it just needs winding in a bit.

@@michaelmckeary1165 I don't have that, they are typically used on the Honda GX390 engines, its a high pressure lever valve. They are used as Frost guard and easy prime. Usually on right hand side of the pump. If its leaking then it's probably the internal ball and seal has worn. I believe they are non serviceable and have to be replaced. To be honest they don't really need to be there if your running a K1 unloader as they are flow sensitive.

At 9.16 the ones being measured are 3/8" connections. There are 2 different versions a std version (bigger for high-pressure) which is approx 19.5mm in diameter. The other 3/8" connector is known as a midi. They are only known as 3/8" connectors because of the connection thread which is 3/8"bsp.
