I picked this up a few days ago for $100. It was filthy, not used in several years and originally from 2015-2016.
I bought it knowing the pump didn't produce pressure and here is how I troubleshot the pump, repaired it. In the end it was a typical unloader issue, this is the 3rd unit with this pump I've purchased with a stuck unloader.

UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzfaq.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

James…..damn great video, like others who commented, you saved me some serious coin and time. On my DEWALT it was the unloader. The valve (pin) was stuck and would not move in and out. I took it apart and cleaned and lubricant it. WAM BAM thank you MAN! This has been an outstanding power washer for over 10 years. You DA MAN…… PC

My Dewalt 3625 is about a year old. It sat (No gas in the carb) for a good 6 months until I got it out today. Started right up, but no pressure when the trigger was pulled. Started looking and found this vid. Turns out that the easiest thing to do WAS the culprit. I just unscrewed the unloader, and it was stuck for sure. (with a little corrosion in there too. WTF Dewalt?) I lubed it up, exercised the plunger until it was free and fun - then put it back in the cantankerous beastie. Started it again and viola! Pressure was perfect once again! Thanks James!

Glad the video helped. Pretty much all unloaders get stuck on pumps no matter what brand it is...The best thing is to make sure it's lubbed up with a lot of lithium grease. Usually if I'm not going to use my pressure washer for over 2 months I'll blow the pump out or use pump saver. Pump saver will really help stop corrosion in the unloader. For winter storage pump saver is a must!!!

Excellent video. I have the same pump, however, the other day while I was using it, when I used the spray handle I noticed that the pressure dropped off significantly. when I looked at the pump the water was spraying out of the 3 holes centered on the pump where it attached to the drive unit. All of the pump allen screws were torqued ok. Any ideas? I'm hoping it's not the seals.

You said the valves looked okay, looking down the hole. That doesn't really tell you anything though. You need to remove the valves and check them for proper seating. Out of 6 valves, it only takes 1 not seating to kill the pressure. The last two I repaired, both had a single bad valve mucking up the whole shabang. If the heat gets too high in the pump, the retaining plastic cage will distort and prevent the valve from seating. If you blow on the metal side of the valve, no air should make it through. (Even though the water flows this way, it has to be under enough pressure to open the valve) Making sure the valve is seated and air tight is what you want. Sometimes the spring will just bind up and you can free it back up with a pick tool. If there's no oil or water leaking, then it's almost always going to be a valve not closing tight (this includes the unloader valve, as well)

You're right, I've had unit after this with only 1 broken valve and it couldn't build pressure. on the cheap pumps I usually fill the cavity with water and see if it leaks down. When I say cheap pumps I mean vertical shaft ones and any big box style unit. I've had bad luck trying to pull the valves and then breaking them. I've had good luck getting MiTM valves out. Sometimes it's really hard to tell w/o removing them are they damaged. That unit was a few years ago and I can't remember much about it but thanks for watching.

haha...I agree...so I just bought the 12v DeWalt set, impact drivers, etc...and have been using it and love it. The size, weight, battery life is perfect for this sorta stuff. Only thing is when reassembling things...especially into aluminum I like to do it by had because it's so easy to over torque and strip out fasteners. Also I like to start fasteners by hand to make sure I'm not cross threading anything. And one more thing is I've noticed if I'm reassembling a steel bolt into aluminum sometimes I'll run the bolt through a tap to clean the threads as aluminum transfers easily especially if I'm replacing the old aluminum piece. I swear the hardest thing to not crossthread is some spark plugs. If the plug is used and the threads have carbon on them...uhhhhhh

Did you make sure the key is in the shaft? sometimes it gets pushed out... if it's correct I'd check the setting of the unloader. I believe most pumps ship with the unloader out and you need to tighten them in to increase the pressure.

I heard you talk about oil colour. My oil colour in the pump is not like any regular oil. It’s like a grey paint.
@jamesbubnick

That means you have contaminated oil...could be the seals are shot or could be it just is contaminated. I'd change the oil and then see if it turns gray/milky or stays like oil.

@@rotaxrider No...so those seals only effect the oil, the high pressure seals are in the head of the pump and those are seperate service kits.

I have a Simpson Professional Pressure Washer 3300 PSI 2.5 GPM (PS60841) with an AAA 53ALD24 pump that has no pressure. Per your video (great video by the way) I took off the pump and the key appeared to be out of place. Put it back together and nothing. I then pulled off the manifold and the values are nasty dirty. I then drained the oil and there’s a small amount of water in the oil (slightly milky). I’m thinking of just replacing the pump, manifold and all accessories. Where would you suggest buying from? Thanks for your help in advance.

The best pumps are CAT but if you're a homeowner I don't think it's necessary. I've had some really great AR pumps and had some great Canpump. They reached out and sent me a few pumps for free. Canpump and MITM are the same if my memory serves me right. Most issues I've seen are with people not taking care of the pump. I think I had one or two pumps that actually were worn out because the units were heavily used. Cost wise I think Canpump are pretty much the best value, if I didn't care about cost I'd go with Cat and then with AR. I'm not a big fan of AAA pumps but as long as you take care of them the pump should last for many years.

hello James great video, maybe you can help me. i have a dewalt 3600 psi 2.5 gpm and bought it new from home depot like 2 years ago, i used it like 3-4 times and worked well and then i stopped using it for a year and i wanted to use it a few days ago and there was no pressure , i took it to the mechanic and he said the unloader was fine and couldnt fix it. its a triple AAA plunger pump i think. i was thinking in spraying wd-40 inside the pump , and i also have a can of pump saver, i dont know if i put that and let it rest maybe it will lubricate everything again. what do you think
@jamesbubnick
@jamesbubnick 5 ай бұрын
That won't hurt the pump but probably won't help either. It's usually the unloader is bad or the valves have at least one damaged/broken out of the 6 and then it wouldn't build continuous pressure. The AAA pump that comes on those are just soso. It's probably cheapest to order a CanPump replacement and switch it. I've had a few pumps from CanPump as replacements and if I remember correctly they are the same mfg as MITM pumps.

I have one of those Simpson powershot pressure washers rated at 3300 psi. Builds pressure, but once i start spraying the pressure goes from 3300 to 1200psi. Is that normal ?
@jamesbubnick
@jamesbubnick 5 ай бұрын
Probably not normal. Pumps don't really operate at their stated pressure. Most seem to be overrated by a few hundred PSI. If it drops that much it sounds like a valve is damaged, wrong sized tip, or misadjusted unloader. If you replaced the tips with "universal tips" that could cause the issue. You need to size the tip orifice to the PSI and GPM of the pump. Also could be the unloader needs adjustment

I don't believe they make a rebuild kit. You can buy a new unloader. Typically if you disassemble, clean on a wire wheel, lubricate they will come back but if the O-rings are leaking you'd be hard pressed to find the correct sized ones.

If you adjust the psi, does that mean the GPM will got down too?
@jamesbubnick
@jamesbubnick 15 күн бұрын
The best way to adjust your GPM flow is with your tip orifice size. That's why professional detailers use a 5.0+ orifice tip on their electric pressure washers, they're trying to dry the PSI and increase the GPM flow...... It depends on how you adjust it, ie unloader or switch orifice size of your tip.

Why did your "high pressure seals fail so fast"?
@jamesbubnick
@jamesbubnick 3 жыл бұрын
The high pressure seals on this one did not fail. The unloader was sticking. On the similar pump that failed 5 hours after I rebuilt it the pump pistons must have had damage/scratches that caused the seals to fail. The pressure on the seals is high so the littlest imperfection will cause a failure.
