The crazy thing is, it just gets better from here. Also, that thing that you are emotionally connecting to on this early album just gets more concentrated over time until the most recent album (A Moon Shaped Pool) where you’ll just be floating around the room like a junkie taking a giant hit. The only album that most people have trouble with is “The King of Limbs” because the weird drum rhythms are too high in the mix on several songs.

I struggled with The King of Limbs. I listened to the album several times, trying to like it, but still absolutely hated it. It wasn't until I heard the From The Basement session for TKOL before things clicked for me. I still prefer the From The Basement version, but I can now listen to the studio album and enjoy it.

@@okiejayI used to not enjoy TKOL but now it’s my second favorite radiohead album. I think the atmosphere is immaculate. The b-sides are also incredible.

Have to recommend listening to their entire discography, half of what makes them so special, is hearing the evolution to their sound from album to album. You'll even find that a lot of tracks have, what I can best describe as, spiritual successors, in the following albums, either a style, sound or element, where even though it's incredibly different, you can hear the progression and really feel the connection and evolution from previous tracks. Also, has to be said, if you haven't listened to them already, you need to check out, Portishead's debut album "Dummy" and Massive Attack's "Mezzanine" album. Two other incredibly iconic 90's groups and albums, that along with Radiohead's next album OK Computer, are considered by many to be in the, All Time Top 100 Albums.

Think of this record like the Beatles before Revolver, kind of a transition album as they level up from a simpler sound on their first album. The next album is where they really take off and make an album that a lot of people think is one of the best ever. After this none of their albums sound alike and they do a lot of genre blending. There's a number of good reasons they are one of the most critically acclaimed bands in rock history, they always seem to defy expectations and never repeat themselves.

Coming from an old man who saw Radiohead live several times. Including on The Bends tour way back in 1995 (opening for REM!)… pause for a moment and listen to Jeff Buckley’s album “Grace”, which came out in 1993 and was a huge influence especially on Thom Yorke’s vocal evolution. You’ll understand when you hear it. Then step forward to OK Computer and follow that Radiohead train down the tunnel 😊

Haha! When someone who is reacting like this to The Bends, by golly I look forward to hear what he says about the rest. Subscribing and looking forward to the rest. Just watch as the rest of the Radiohead fans floods in. And yepp, pretty normal to do Radiohead's music first and then the lyrics, I think 😉

I suggest moving straight to OK Computer. Move through the discography. By the time In Rainbows is up, you will lose your mind with his vocals. I personally went to Pablo Honey after In Rainbows. It blew my mind how much they had progressed. Unlike many RH fans, I love Pablo Honey. I listen to Pablo Honey and The Bends when I feel nostalgic for the 90s. The rest of the discography is timeless, while the first two sound like the 90s. RH is my absolute favorite band ever. I even got to see them live. His voice live is better than recorded, if you can imagine that.

Hi Jared. I'm a llong time Radiohead fan-since the mid 90's. OK Computer was such a mind awakining listen when it was released in 1997. Since then, every album has been different, both artistically and stylishly. Popularity and criticism, aside, they are all brilliant in their own, unique ways. I love them all. Any truly artistically gifted band never makes the same album over and over again, but reinvents, and reenergizes their sound as artistic expression. This is Radiohead in a nutshell.

Appreciate you taking the time to look back at this sort of music and put it out there for a new generation to know of. Radiohead remains my favourite of all the bands that have carved their place out in this world. Look forward to your enjoyment of OK Computer. As Dr Karl once said of it, "it's one of those albums that you should put the headphones on for and drench yourself in". Always felt that rings true with a lot of Radiohead's work.

Looking forward to your Radiohead reactions. I know lots of people crap on Pablo Honey, but I think it's worth a listen as well. It's not my favorite Radiohead album, but it was a successful album in it's day and put Radiohead on the map. It's a good album for what it is - early 90s alternative rock. edit: The albums that you listed are fantastic, but don't skip out on the rest of the albums. You should do them all, as well as the From The Basement sessions for both In Rainbows, and The King of Limbs.

There is a live version of Street Spirit (fade out) and it's one of the best live vocal performances I've ever seen. Search for it and it's the second choice you'll see (they are outside on a sunny day)

Musically, this was innovative in 1995. But OK Computer showcases Johnny Greenwood's talent as a composer and arranger perhaps more than this album.

If you’re super pretentious, I’d like to see a Godspeed You! Black Emperor reaction at some point! Hit up ‘F#A# (infinity)’ … or some Sigur Ros if you haven’t yet

I’d like to suggest not getting too hung up with lyrics of Radiohead. Of course they’re great but Thoms voice is like its own instrument. He could be singing nonsense words and the result would be just as moving. 😅 Cheers.
