themk23 I have recently discovered Pretty Lights compared to how much time he has been composing music. It was February of 2016. The first song by him I cam across was City of One. A person who was demonstrating how to create Bismuth crystals used it as the background music for his video and I instantly fell in love with it. I saw the name of the arist and the song in the comment section and then I searched for him. I just couldn't get enough. Every song I listened to was just amazing.

I'm from Telluride, and I went to both your shows there when I was in high school. It was so magical, and that was the first experience I'd had with rave culture and EDM culture. I remember saying to my mom, "these people are my tribe". Thank you for bringing that magic to such a remote place.

This music is its own culture -- an alternative to the normal, mainstream nonsense out there. This transcends and far surpasses normalcy. Pretty Lights are their own breed and in their own universe. I cannot express in enough words and thoughts how refreshing this type of music is to me and all of us here. It takes my breath away every time I listen without fail.

This is still my most favorite Pretty Lights song ever because I can connect so well to it. I still remember the first time I heard it. I was on my way to the first time I would be away from my family for a long time, working at a Boy Scout summer camp. I was so worried about what would happen, but out of the blue, just as we were pulling up to the camp gate, this song played on the radio out of the blue. It made no sense to me because normally the radio station was classic rock, but it played Only Yesterday and neither of my parents changed the station despite not really liking electronic music. It felt like a sign to me that everything would be okay. This song became my song for the summer, listening to it every evening, and every time without fail it brought me to emotional tears. I still come back to it and can feel the same feeling of happiness and contentment that I felt at that camp. Thank you Derek Vincent Smith for this gift you have given all of us.

Yeah Derek's music brings me nothing but happiness, peace, and tranquility. That's why it really makes me sad when I hear tumors about Derek being depressed and doing heroin and abusing K. I genuinely care about DVS, he is just such a an amazing guy and his music brings me such peace and I would be so sad if something happened to him because of heroin. The PL fam needs to show Derek we are all here for him

Do you think Derek thought he would be hooked on heroine, or any other rumored drugs that he, or many others in the scene may be dealing with? DRUGS will OPEN DOORS. There is spiritual war-fare going on. Its an energy that is so real and should not be disregarded because CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE has the power to control your energy and plays the trick of you making you think you can control your highs and lows. Its not healthy to go into anything glorifying the intentions of getting fucked up, which is heavily present in a lot of the EDM scene. I have been guilty of this myself to be honest. A lot of the energy is residing in these mentality's that have become mainstreamed. I have seen it! I know many of us have seen a friend or two from the group go down this manipulating path of confusion/self destruction with these substances that honestly change you.They become addicted (obsessed) towards a particular substance and turn into the worst version of themselves. I have also been there myself first hand via EDM scene. Some of us may have completely lost a friend that should be there with us or lost ourselves. For those staying balanced and who don't struggle with addictive behavior many around you need your love and vibes! Praying for you Derek, do not be afraid. If you turn to your roots and seek the intricate designer you will see love re-enter your life. Do not be afraid to BELIEVE, because you will re-learn to believe in your TRUE self not just the image you represent as pretty lights... but more importantly who you are here as Derek Smith. +David Corn yup it definitely seems like it has an underlying darkness/sadness to it even though it sounds upbeat/happy. it kinda reminds me of "my other love" in the sense that my other love sounds so happy, and then you realize the lyrics and notice that the lyrics actually arent happy

This song, along with the other mysterious stuff he's been up to these last couple weeks, makes me wonder what's in store for us as PL fans, or what he's been up to. Devin Thomas - think you have it wrong and the original post is right. listen to the proceeding lines... "But I cannot show affection The way you want me to I can’t walk around all day Saying honey I love you" this song to me is rather clearly about a break up. the girl wants more affection and to constantly be told he loves her. It was only yesterday... When you stole my heart away... I know this is the end... trust me, this is the exact reason why my relationship just broke up. gf needed constant attention and affection and be told that she is loved. but I can't do that. same with Derek apparently.
