I've been greasing these for years but using good old Mercedes green wheel bearing grease. I've "updated" to a newer synthetic wheel bearing grease and like you, just slather it in there!! I had not heard of wrapping the thing with HVAC tape and like that idea! I'll order some tape and use it on the driver's door of my '87 560SEL. Great info and a well done video. Thanks!!

Since you are posting to this video I assume then you are comparing an M119 engine to W123 door check straps.

Great video Ken - I replaced mine with good used units, but recently my driver-side B-pillar mount point weld broke so now a get loud popping noise opening the door. Any suggestions on repair? 1980 300SD Thanks, Chris

was playing witht he new check strap and it fell apart, and now I can't get the ball bearings and spring back in 🥲🥲 Will I have to order a new one or is there some weird way to fix it?
