Awesome video. One question though... i understand the mixing ratios based on how big your yard is, but how does that relate to how much liquid you're putting in your backpack sprayer? Are you using the entire 4 gallons? If not, are you discarding the excess? If so, How do you go about that?

Hey man, I live in ATX! I am super happy I ha e someone with experience who I can follow. Bought a Ryobi 4gal sprayer, have a 4k size yard, and bought all the same products you use! I just started but I appreciate you very much! Could you please let us know which type of tip you use on the application? I would really appreciate it. Used the red tip today using Celsius and wg45 together. I started late but better than never. Scalped my yard and bagged last week. Wanting the grass to grow out and not up. Keeping it short. ThNks man! Xoxo you rock!

Awesome Austin! I like knowing local folks follow the channel. I used the longer tip red one. It puts out a little larger water droplet, which makes it better for soil apps. Prodiamine is taken in through the root system, so you want the product to make it to the soil. Celsius is actually a foliar app, so it would be better to use the finer mist tip, but you’ll be fine. I’ve mixed both types of products and used that longer tip several times.

Mine was close to 45 the other day with that cold snap lol. I need to pre-scalp this week to get ready for pre-emergent. Grass is a tad tall atm to toss it down.

I’m not going to do anything special there. I just have to wait until the sun stays in the sky longer and it gets warmer. It’ll come back, just a little after the other part of the lawn. I know that’s not the exciting answer, but unfortunately it’s hard to replicate what some good sunlight will do for you!

So if I want to cover 1000 sq feet, I should pour in half a gallon of water, then the product (5.2 grams), and then another half gallon of water. Is that correct?
@LawnInsider
@LawnInsider 2 жыл бұрын
My label is in ounces, your order is right but if you’re putting out half the annual rate (.415 oz/1000) that would be about 12 grams I think.
@sparksandchips
@sparksandchips 2 жыл бұрын
How did you calibrate your spray system? If not calibrated how do you know the rate per sq ft in your case is correct?
@LawnInsider
@LawnInsider 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Leslie! So luckily my lawn is about 4,000 sq ft and I have a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. Since my lawn is relatively small, I filled my tank with water a few times and tested the pace I needed to walk in order to evenly apply those 4 gallons over the entire lawn. Once you do that a couple of times, you’ll start to get a feel for pacing. A good rule of thumb is to try and apply one gallon of product per 1000 sq ft of lawn. Every sprayer is a little different, but after you’ve made your first few trial runs, it’s a pretty shallow learning curve in my opinion!
@thereelryan
@thereelryan 2 жыл бұрын
How would one figure how many tanks is appropriate. As if it was a 15k sq ft lawn. It would take more than just 4 gallons correct?
@LawnInsider
@LawnInsider 2 жыл бұрын
I would go out and do a mock application with just water and calibrate it that way. That’s what I did with my backpack sprayer, just on a smaller scale.

Something I hadn't thought about before was unintended effects of pre-emergent. If it isn't stopping germination (which I agree with) but it is limiting cellular division and therefore root growth.... then what about a grass like bermuda that grows/spreads with rhizomes and stolons. Would it also stop that? I started cutting low last season and my grass made progress getting trained to grow low and get dense, but I think it might fill in further this year. Wondering if pre-emergent could affect this?
@LawnInsider
@LawnInsider 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I’ve used it for a few years now without any negative effects. My understanding is that Prodiamine only effects seeds/roots of plants that aren’t established yet. This is why you aren’t supposed to use it on new sod. My guess is your bermuda will continue to fill in and get more dense as you continue to cut it low.
@TrentDecker

Kind of a crazy winter this year with one cold snap, but mostly well above normal temps. The soil temperature has actually spent significant amounts of time over 55 all winter. Any tips on when to apply pre-emergent? Stick to early Feb? Although 95% dormant, I see significant green shoots in the bermuda and the miscellaneous random weed / poa. Did I already miss the ideal window and just it down ASAP?

The sod at my home was just laid in August 2021, I've read some guidance that says to keep pre-emergents off it for the first 8-12 months. My neighbors yard is OVERRUN with weeds and it's spilling over into mine...what do you think? Safe for 6 month old sod?
@LawnInsider
@LawnInsider 2 жыл бұрын
If your sod is established, then it's fine. Meaning you can't see the lines anymore and you can't pull it up anywhere. If it's not established, you should hold off.

@LawnInsider
@LawnInsider 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you are, but it wouldn’t hurt you to apply the Prodiamine now. If you’re having average soil temps around 55° it’s time to apply the pre-em.
