I simplified the diagram, and stretched the D curve of market B to have demand at higher prices than the total D curve (which of course can't be since the submarket B is a part of the entire D curve). I did this to stress the point of higher profits when splitting the market. I have also ignored the 'kink' in the total D curve. Nevertheless, the diagram is topologically correct, and so serves its purpose.

hello Ive come across the same query I had in my economics lessons! at 0.40 you drew a line up from the axis to the AR and AC curves and said the difference between them was the profit. Im just wondering why you don't use the MR/MC curves? and also why does the MR curve go beyond the axis but the AR curve does?
