Buying a sealed copy of Spider-Man on ATARI for $9k because it's of a popular franchise, is like spending ridiculous amounts on sealed copy of Madden for the SNES because it's popular series and winning coach.

Agreed. Ungraded Spiderman sealed sells for $50-250. Putting the game in a WATA shell does not automatically add an extra zero onto the value. Something needs to be legitimately rare. There are literally 1000s of this game still sealed floating around out there.

And I just bought 6 sealed different games for under 25$ each with shipping, no spiderman, but still there are literally thousands sealed of all types of Atari games. And coming from an Atari collector, no one cares about a 9.8 graded spiderman, except resellers trying to manipulate the market.

Its effecting more than just the 2600 now, we've seen fairchild channel f games go for ten to 20 times or more than what we have paid for in simply a few months. Some of us wonder if some of this is all a con to inflate worth to then resell to someone who thinks its worth more. As games get older, it's getting more problematic, as "collectors" who like "valuable" things start buying it up and assuming worth. This sealed graded stuff is just a comical joke that is making it worse. The only benefit will be that when those of us who do collect as gamers sell up, we'll be laughing. I've never treated my collection as an investment, but it may get to a day where its too expensive to continue from non gamers getting too involved.

I have an F-Zero SNES sealed. Payed like $30 for it years ago.. I know there was a pallet of these somewhere because it’s a really easy find but it’s nostalgic to me so I bought it to display for fun in my game room. I don’t even own a SNES as I use my Wii or WiiU as emulation. Same goes for my sealed Crazy Taxi on GC. Never owned that version as my favorite is the DC and Crazy Taxi 3 on the OG Xbox, but it has a KB Toys price sticker on it and that’s very nostalgic to me. I payed like $20 for it.. I shopped there a lot as a kid though I couldn’t afford much. My most remembered memory from there was when they had Ecco the Dolphin on Genesis you could play right as you walked in. Heck, I even have the RC Crazy Taxi car in box with the KB Toys sticker now that I think about it. Can you tell I like CT 😅.. I have a 60K run on the OG Xbox CT3 on my channel if you wish to check it out 😄.

I got unopened Atari 2600 games from a store called Everything's A Dollar in the early '90s. Specifically I remember getting Space Jockey. The same store had Sega CD Lethal Enforcers with Justifier a few years later and I was angry because they were charging $2 at a store called "Everything's A Dollar." The guy at the register pointed out that they changed the name to "Everything's A Dollar+." Even the grocery store has items under $1 so it was strange to set a price floor.

The main reason sealed Atari games do not sell for sealed NES prices are that the vast majority of Atari 2600 collectors (like me) have been collecting for over 30 years, meaning we are all at the point where we are chasing the same 1/2 dozen games that are super rare and consider graded games a fad and joke. I have a dozen sealed copies of Spider-man still sealed. Frankly, I am surprised they are going for $2K+.

@@hypersonic1337 It will happen given enough time. The average person entering the work force considers the Xbox 360 Vintage and was born shortly before the PS2 launched. Are any of them nostalgic for the NES and SNES? Of course not. To them, those are games they can buy in the online store for a free to a few bucks to play. My father-in-law had a nice collection of model train sets. These were selling for 1000 times what they sell for now just 20 years ago. As people age out of a hobby, prices inevitably go down and any speculative investing when it comes to collectibles is just dumb investing.

Is it possible collectors, companies, websites with stock of these games are creating fake auctions and are artificially rising the prices in order to sell their copies or stock at a much higher price then they would normally go for. I am just wondering how regulated it all is any market or online auction can be manipulated without proper regulation.

@@northofnashira2575 Action Comics (and comics in general) has a far more reaching broader appeal to a general audience than 70's/80's/90's video game collecting. I was thinking of what other common superhero games could have a similar effect. On Price Charting X-Men 2 for the Genesis has gone up for a complete version from around $30 in January to around $70 today. It's current price is by far the highest it has ever been. I'm assuming this is a similar situation. X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse for the SNES is doing the same thing. Complete in box price has never been higher and shot up significantly since January, while the loose cart maintains the same price.

That isn't much speculation. That guy probably bought a sealed crate of those damn things for less than $100 and just sold one for $2700? He just made out like a bandit to some stupid collector...unless it was a shill bid and he never got paid...

So that's at least like a year. Hope you enjoy the first medical issue of your life that people judge you about because they can't have any empathy to see what you are going through. Or has that already happened and you got the little blue pill to help?

People get sealed games because they think they’ll keep rising in value. Not the same mindset as looking for the rarest loose nes Carts. That said a lot of these people will likely take a bath.
