I did not know he was gay. Watching him on the Jefferson’s on prime as we speak and had no clue. He’s a great actor! Liked him better as Lionel

I worked with Damon for a short time for large bank on Wall Street in Manhattan in the early 80's. He was a very quiet sweet guy. He wanted me to come see him when he was in the play Porgy and Bess.

I..... I'M SHOCKED!! Not in a bad way but shocked! Had I not watched this I would have never known this man was gay. He played the perfect son on The Jefferson's. I'm glad he lived through the suicide moment. Family is only a small part of a big life!

I watch The Jeffersons on Amazon Prime Video (one of the reasons why I have the darned service!) regularly and just watched the episode yesterday when George buys Lionel a term paper about "Hemmingway and the Homosexual" and I happen to come across this video after googling Marla Gibbs. I had no idea! Glad Damon is happy and now I will treasure his performances even more whenever I watch those reruns!

What a wonderful human being, and I loved both "Lionels" How awful that our world creates such shame, guilt, and pain for people who are simply being themselves. Thanks for this interview.

I was surprised Damon was gay. On _The Jeffersons_ he played the heterosexual male part extremely well.

I had NO idea. Normally we don't like cast changes and I did find his Lionel to be way different from the original and returning Lionel, but I thought he was cute on The Jeffersons.

In actuality, I have no problem with this actor being gay. I have friends who are gay and I love and accept them as they are. My initial comment was meant to be silly more than anything. Now, while we're on the subject, what I don't like is that the LGBTQ+ community has become a group of bullies who is stifling everyone else's right to free speech. One shouldn't have to fear expressing an opinion because it might hurt their livelihood (their ability to pay their mortgage and feed their family). While the LGBTQ+ community has gained equal rights (mostly), others are losing theirs. For example, a gay person wears a rainbow flag, it falls under free speech. Another person wears a shirt that says, "There Are Only Two Genders", it's called hate speech and they face all kinds of backlash. God forbid it should happen to be someone famous. I understand and agree with equal rights for all, and I love human diversity, but there has been a huge overcorrection and it needs to be dialed back some
