God bless Mike Evans who passed at the young age of 57. His talent merited more and better roles than he received. Norman Mailer giving him his walking papers when he asked for more airtime was tragic. Finally after decades of being sidelined he suffered throat cancer, a horrible way to go. Mike was a great talent and deserved better treatment.

@@kaylorraine Mike Evans is in heaven l believe 😘🙏🏽he passed by smoking those darn cancer sticks and getting cancer (his daughter did an article some time ago when they were working on his movie aka life story)🙏🏽😘bless his soul and the other Lionel he was on Broadway when they asked him to do Lionel he may have went back to Broadway 🥰🙏🏽 blessings to him wherever he is and I'm sssooo glad stinking Norman Lear didn't write Lionel's character off like he did father on Good Times ❤️🖤💚✊🏾❤️🖤💚😘

@@evonza4858-The true FACT is...Mike Evans ACTUALLY left The Jeffersons; because he felt he should have as much screen time as Sherman Hemsley(George)and Isabel Sanford(Louise)-Being that he was the FIRST Jefferson to be introduced on 'All In The Family'! -So Mike Evans said to Norman Lear...If he didn't get more screen time on 'The Jeffersons' he would leave!-So Norman Lear released him from his contract; until he worked things out with 'Mr. Lear' and returned in Season 6 after Good Times ended!!....

@@evonza4858-Even though he got rid of John Amos in the role of James Evans after Season 3-He didn't want to replace him, because he truly KNEW that Amos was the only person to play the Father on 'Good Times'-He got rid of him, because Amos was a hot head at that time...Always threatening writers and producers and making waves on the set!!

❤ Happy birthday to Mike and Damon Evans. Not related. 11 3. 11 24 Did you know both Lionels were born in November ? The first had a birthday the day before Jenny's. We also must recognize we would have no Good Times without him. The best Damon Evans episode is when he celebrated Lionels graduation

Mike Evans is Lionel Jefferson, the original he’s been the beginning since the first episode of all in the family. The first Jefferson appear on screen. They did him dirty in the Jeffersons. They should’ve had more of a role for him since he was the original character to appear

Mike Evans was the only Lionel for me. I could not stand his replacement. He had that high pitched voice and just didn’t have the charisma that Evans had.

I liked Mike in the role best but I didn't dislike Damon. Damon said that he didn't want to disrespect Mike's portrayal of Lionel so instead he played the character a different way.

✊🏾 Mike Evans RIP. He was an untapped talent. I don't think we saw the full scope of his talent. Just the tip of the iceberg. Sad. The other Lionel I'm sure he's a nice guy But this was not his character. He should not have been casted for this role. Much respect to him though for trying.

The first one left the show after the first season to be a writer for Good Times. After Good Times wrapped after several seasons he came back to The Jeffersons. He later on passed away at age 57.

EVERYONE adored the ORIGINAL LIONEL...(Mike Evans)-He was spun-off from the 'All In The Family' cast...And went on to Co-Create another ICONIC sitcom, when he left 'The Jeffersons' after Season 1: "Good Times"!Damon Evans never liked or embodied the role of Lionel!...Damon was a good actor as well, he just didn't fit the 'Lionel' role like(Mike)Evans -Also, Damon Evans was a theater guy!-

Yes, I read an article where he (Damon Evans) admitted that he was gay. In fact, he stated that he hated to play the role of Lionel. He only played the role to please his parents who was hoping the role of being Jenny's boyfriend would make him go strait. He also stated that when they (Norman Lear) released him and brought the other Lionel back (Mike Evans), he was so happy to leave the show.

There are PLENTY of gay actors & actresses (past AND present) who played str8 roles in TV & movies. His parents should've just loved and supported him, regardless of his sexual orientation
