Fr Brendan, thank you for speaking out about this. I'm a 53 yr old mother of 3, I was actually talking to my 14 yr old daughter about treating the Eucharist with reverence and about what actually happens during Mass and what a solemn occasion we are invited to attend. It wasn't the first time we had this talk but she didn't want to go to Mass anymore and to my great shame I didn't push her. She was happy and is returning to Mass with me again on Sunday, thank God. If I was at the Synod I would ask them to put back the alter rails and only receive the Eucharist, kneeling and on the tongue. This is the reverence Jesus deserves. And I feel it shows people who might not realise the great gift and graces we are receiving. I'm not very educated in theology but I like to keep things simple anyway so if all I know is the importance of the Mass so be it. It's by the grace of God and I'm forever grateful to my Lord for this gift of faith. God bless you Father Brendan and may you be full of the Holy Spirit during the Synod. God bless and forgive us all.

Amen. Motherhood is so hard in this evil time. Your lucky is you have even one child that goes to mass. This society tears into the souls of our children brainwashing them so that everything you taught them was like a contrived lie. Makes my heart ache

Thanks Fr. Brendan this has been music to my ears God bless you i have five who are busy doing what thy want ,and its not going to mass i stopped worrying about it instead i have started saying an extra rosery after the angelus at 12 Our Lady has it now .I agree with Ann Byrnes comment.

Fr Brendan. I'm cheering here. First time I've heard a priest speak like I feel and have been feeling. I've left the mass I grew up with and now attend the Latin mass in Limerick. The reverence there is amazing. Thank you For Brendan.

I am a conservative and I am mad as hell. I went to my local synodal listening process and I ranted. I was put into a group with my PP and curate. I tried to behave myself but .... I ranted. I did not care. When I went home, I wrote an email and ranted some more because of the lack of liturgical respect at the event. It was in a church. We had Adoration. Wonderful. We then broke into groups (with all the noise that that entails) and discussed our synodal questions in those groups, all while the Blessed Sacrament remain exposed on the Altar *!/*?!???. I sat in a group with my back to the Lord. Jesus have mercy on me. I am mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any more. Come Lord Jesus.

I do a rosary every day to restore our beautiful Church to what it was before Vat 2. My soul misses the old Mass of my childhood. Jordan Peterson says Don't do anything that makes you weak The 1960s was all about making ourselves weak and, rather than being the rock we needed, the Church went along with it. Vat 2 caused mass trauma in America anyway.

Simply wonderful. I m lucky enough to be able to attend a wonderfully reverent ordinariate mass in Scotland. Its a little slice of heaven. This from a cradle catholic who is mad as hell about insipid, pathetic Mass in my area.

I think you will easily become a Saint with all this. I find when I’m angry, I make the Stations of The Cross. Seems too many are suffering from Indifference and don’t even know it. You’re all in my Eternal prayer basket. Courage!

Thanks Father, you've just explained very eloquently why I returned to the Tridentine Mass about 10 years ago here in Lyon, France. I just couldn't take the sermon at the beginning of Mass (not to mention the long one) the constant improvisation.... the music?? don't get me started. When I was at Mass in Ireland during one of my holidays I saw the Priest (really sorry to say this) replacing the Ciborium in the Tabernacle, after Communion, with about the same reverence and respect that you would use to put a tin of sardines in your kitchen press. And then everyone is surprised and amazed (or not) when an opinion poll shows two thirds of American Catholics believe the Eucharist is symbolic!! How could it be otherwise for heaven's sake? Anyway, God help our poor Church. Let's not lose hope. Thanks for your time and dedication, shout all you've just said in this video from the top of the GPO 😉

In my local Church because of C*'#d, the priest still implements receiving Holy Communion at the end of the Mass. He says the final blessing, strolls to the back of the Church and distributes the Eucharist to a congregation that then stops and chats with the neighbour, seconds after receiving.. Its Horrible but fairly symbolic of the irreverent mess that is the attitude to the Eucharist. It breaks my heart.

Great speech! Thank you! Don’t be surprised if they unplug your microphone at the synod. You probably already know this but that’s what the future inhabitants of the seventh circle did to Cardinal Ottaviani at Vatican II.

Nodding my head here in agreement with all your sentiments. I find attendance at mass on Sundays quite stressful at what happens. I bring a missal with me as it keeps me grounded in what the Mass is.

Thank-you Fr Brenda's well said.Things are getting diluted and we are not getting the full richness .People think mass is a catch up of friends. talking going on before during mass and at communion time. Priests should speak to family's before weddings funeral about the respect on the mass.What can be Brough up to altar no phones on, no chewing gum ,I have seen people drinking coke during mass .

Find your comments on those who do not attend mass not being married in church very good. My adult children sadly have stopped being Catholics,. The married in a registry office. I agreed with to them as I felt it would be sacriligious to be married at mass when they had not been to confession and returned to their faith. Sometimes I wondered was I correct. I am 68 and received my instruction, first holy communion and confirmation pre Vatican 2 changes.

As a Catechist, I try to teach my Confirmants and Holy Communion candidates about the power and graces from the Eucharist, but seem to fail dismally because I do not see them at Mass afterwards. Only the families who come to Mass together, do I see. With respect to the Latin mass followers, our community was made to feel that this Mass was the true Mass and Novo Order was not, thus creating Schism within. It was awful. I agree with you in many ways. `I would love to see more Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

I think The Father called the ultimate Synod when He sent Jesus to come and save us. Yet, we continue to try to reinvent the wheel, so to speak, to make it more interesting , more entertaining, more relevant. It's like the Monty Python film , I believe it was the life of brian where they have the peoples front of Judea, the Judea's people front and they sit and get nothing done. I mean really, it is my responsibility to correct any errors I have learned, to speak out against errors, spread the Gospel correctly, tell my friends hey we aren't doing this with the right heart. I do wish more priests would get more courageous , that is being polite, and lead their flocks. Fr. Altman here in the U.S. is about the only one here that is really stepping up like you Fr. Brandon. Honestly, it is the hope there are more like you that is keeping me here and not converting to Orthodoxy. (Their mass is gorgeous btw, so reverent and traditional) Anyway, thank you Fr. Brandon for leading the flock.

Wow. Thank you. Amen. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s enough anymore to be conservative. It’s how identified my whole Catholic adult life. But I have to say I’ve gone Trad. And even though my Canadian diocese doesn’t offer a TLM, I still live the life and follow the pre-Vat II calendar and fasting guidelines, etc. My faith has been deeply enriched by these changes.

I don't worry about the Real holy Catholic Church, I put all my trust in Jesus. When Jesus performed the miracle of calming the storm at sea, when Peter woke Him up out of fear that the boat would sink and they all would drown, Jesus rebuked them and said, " Ye of little faith, do you not know that I AM always with you, even until the end of time". It is the responsibility of each of us to try and live by the Will of God and by doing this, demonstrating to others and our children how to live and act this Will. We cannot force people to act a certain way but we can silently pray for their enlightenment with a humble and contrite heart. If everyone learned to do these things there would be no need for militancy in the church. The cannon and dogma of the Holy Church was set down by the Gospels and Tradition through various historical church councils and Divine inspiration. If we choose God through the Catholic faith, we must try with our whole heart to follow these rules and guidance in respect and reverence, and seek forgiveness in the sacrament of confession when we fail. Love is the only true thing of value that is truly mine that I can give to My Lord which is worthy of Him. Would you like if someone who professed undying love for you, treated you with disrespect, indifference or took you for granted.

I think in the short term the rubrics need to be much stricter and bishops should be clamping down on free styling priests. In the long term I would favour a revision of the mass to add elements from the TLM back into the liturgy. Whether or not these two things are likely to happen is a different story.

Good evening Father, you mention Archbishop Lefebvre. Recently Cardinal Roche mentioned the "new theology" of the mass. This almost makes the Archbishop prophetic. Ive mentioned in another post on one of your comboxes the church needs the SSPX, and I think this issue exemplifies it

Give to synod ceasar what is synod ceasars and to God what is God's. If it is of God it will stand the test of time and the Traditional Latin Mass will be here forever. Why? Because the Holy Spirit is truly present at a reverent Mass. Even if we have to hide in caves to attend a reverent Mass, God will be with us. Give them heck Father.

Would it be an idea to only have the sacramental marriage in church and the civil wedding in a registry office or other venue? Maybe the prospect of two ceremonies, one with no civic meaning might solve a lot of this. Is people marrying in church when the are no longer believers. At least it might make them think a bit more about the ceremony

I'm as mad as hell that the majority of weekday Masses (in England, at least) are at 9am or 10am. Please can all priests stop pandering to the retired folk and restore the weekday Masses to 6am/6:30am/7am/7:30am. We get our word "breakfast" from breaking the fast after having attended a dawn Mass. Let's restore breakfast to what it used to be. Yes, I know that fewer people will attend at dawn and that old people don't like going out in the dark, but there can still be one 9am or 10am Mass retained per deanery. Spare a thought for the younger generations of students and workers. And please can we have at least one daily Mass at 9pm per city? All those 7pm and 7:30pm weekday Masses are badly timed for young families.

God save us from long meandering sermons which raise none towards heaven and the Eucharistic part of Mass done so fast that if you blink you almost miss it. Priestly self-centeredness, instead of Christ-centeredness, at Mass is clearly seen by all, even if we say nothing. Such poor priest's don't realize they're embarrassing. They seem to want to act cute. Thank God for good priests who know Who it is they hold in their hands.
