I purchased a Primaluna Dialogue Integrated Amplifier last week. It is a terrific product and I am very pleased except for one issue. There is a hum when I switch to the home theater passthrough. I have sent 3 emails to Primaluna USA and have yet to receive a responsible. I am very disapointed with their service and, unfortunately I may have to return the unit. Update: Primaluna finally got back to me and resolved the issue. They suspected a ground loop and suggested using a 3 prong to 2 prong converter. It worked and I am now thrilled with Primaluna and my purchase.

That would be a ground loop which is common in home theater situations. Not with PrimaLuna....but with ANY gear. Easily solved and I suspect David was taken care of.

Very few like the EL34 tube. But many like, id say love the sound of the EL84. The main reason EL24 is popular is because it pushes out allot more power but real EL84's if they have enough tubes in them sound amazing. Just listen to the Leben amps.

Excellent amplifier. Not keen on the Triode, a bit flat sounding. I also have the Muzishare x7 which is absolutely on par.

Look at David Parker's comment below "I have sent 3 emails to Primaluna USA and have yet to receive a response." Who pays $3K for a preamp when you ca't get warranty support.

Lmao, i have personally switched capacitors of the exact same VDC rating and farrad measurement. They sound unique all of them, caps made of Copper foil, silver foil, paper in oil, tinned foil, they all sound vastly different. This goes for caps in the loudspeaker crossover aswell as the coupling caps in amps, CD players - you name it.

@Lasse3
@Lasse3 3 жыл бұрын
@@Echo_III dude really, a 2$ cap and a 15$ cap sound so vastly different to eachother, that a "test" becomes pointless.. 😅 You're making a fool of yourself here, nobody disagrees that caps made of different materials sound diffrent.. Oh are you also one of those people who believe that silver and copper cables sound identical?
@Echo_III
@Echo_III 3 жыл бұрын
@@Lasse3 I'm not talking about different materials. What is the sound test that you did?
@Lasse3
@Lasse3 3 жыл бұрын
@@Echo_III Kevin is taking about diffrent materials, expensive caps go around creating the dialectrium in other ways than say a stock-grade pp-cap or an even cheaper electrlytical cap. That's also why a 0.47 uF MKP type cap is huge, while a 0.47 uF pp-cap is tiny. Do you agree that Apple's and bananas taste diffrent? How did you test it? Did you perform a double blind test? If not, I will conclude they not only taste identical, but also look identical. -oh wait only' I'm not retarded, unlike certain people in this comment section. A Mundorf Mcap Supreme SilverGoldOil, is 5-10 times larger, and weighs 15 times more than a stock grade pp-cap measuring exactly the same uF.. Even while both shares the same uF rating. They also sound so vastly diffrent to eachother, that you only switch out the cheap cap once, without feeling the need to do ABX - the difference is night and day.

Hmmm, first you say, DON't BUY AN AMP BECAUSE OF AN POSITIVE REVIEW ABOUT IT,............but in the next sentence you say, but buy this Primaluna, because it was tested and reviewed extremely positive. DOSEN't MAKE SENCE, KEVIN. But of course this is a selling vid !
@arthurwatts1680
@arthurwatts1680 6 жыл бұрын
I think that's kinda obvious, Matthias, but I agree that Kevin's intro was also kinda obvious. The difference for me is that Kevin actually knows what he's talking about when he starts waxing lyrical about a tube amp : I dont get the same sense when I see a marketing droid flapping their lips in front of an amp at a show.

I felt that his ending comments pointing to the importance of seeing the interior build of a competitor's product and A/B comparing the individual components and wiring that are being used elevated this video to a legitimate product review and not just a selling video. What I appreciated was how in-depth this video was with regards to the finer details of circuitry used, wiring, parts, and his very thorough description of each function within the overall design of this Prima Luna component. We auditioned the Prima Luna on four separate occasions at a store before finding this video. We were extremely impressed with the Prima Luna in person, and we were sold after watching this video. I felt like we received a very informative presentation as to why the sound it passed on to the speakers was pleasing to our ears versus merely trusting that we liked what we heard w/o any understanding as to why. For us, the clincher was the auto-biasing, the tube failure indicators, and the impressive efforts that the design engineers employed to lower the noise floor as best they could. It sounds stunning in person, however tubes are highly personal. We A/B compared this against an $8000 Yamaha solid state integrated amplifier (a stunning component in person), and they were equally amazing. They were different though the difference was far more subtle than we expected it to be.

@@Tnapvrvideo I've had the Yamaha A-S3000, the amp I assume you're talking about, for two years. Last month a buddy brought over a PL Dialogue One integrated with a phono stage for me to listen to in my system. First of all I have to say the A-S3000 was a huge sonic improvement over my 1984 Yamaha A-1000 integrated even though the A-S3000 has far less power at 8 and especially 4 ohms. I'd been running Infinity RS4b speakers and the A-S3000 made them sound better than they ever had! That inspired me to upgrade to new technology speakers. I'm now running Magico A3's. I must admit that I was very satisfied with my system until I heard the PrimaLuna. Even though the A3's probably would sound better with more power, the 35 watt PL sounded much better with the A3's than the Yamaha. I had the PL in my system for three weeks and am now back to the Yamaha. Unfortunately, listening to the stereo hasn't been as enjoyable since then.

Your playing around with some gorgeous equipment - very impressive! I am blessed that my wife loves to listen to music. She and I shopped together for our latest stereo, and it resides in our large living room (16' W x 28' L) as the primary feature of the room. That is typically a nearly impossible sell. I often return to the house to find her cranking the system playing Petty, Dylan, the Stones, Seger and many others. We had a blast shopping for the sound we enjoyed the most - while barely staying within our maximum budget. We spent the better part of 6 months visiting one store and auditioning all types of components, configurations, and combinations. As it turned out, we only purchased a pair of speakers and an integrated amplifier. Just the two speakers and the integrated amp pushed the invoice to slightly under $15K. We rely entirely on a previously owned CD player as our source unit. We could not afford to buy anything else. To make the purchase, we had to make 14 interest free, monthly payments to the store before they ordered the speakers (they're built to order). About 7 weeks later, the speakers arrived to the store. Soon thereafter, they delivered and set up the system for us. We loved the exquisite Yamaha A-S3000 integrated amp, and its matching CD player. They were stunning in appearance and equally spectacular in their sound output. We opted for tubes. We liked their sound a little more; we went with the PrimaLuna EVO300. I am certain that we would have been psyched with the Yamaha front end as well. In time, we plan to upgrade the CD player. We'd love to get into vinyl, but the cost is prohibitive. To buy a comparable turntable, phono preamp, and a cartridge, and then the albums - yikes!

Simple EQ or tone controls costing almost nothing will enable any competent solid state amp to sound like this one. If it's affecting the frequency response or adding unwanted harmonics then it is flawed. Well it's flawed anyway. Tubes are a failed and obsolete technology useful as museum exhibits only.
