UPDATED TUTORIAL: One of the BEST ways to boost the quality of your live streams is to start using your DSLR, camcorder, or other video camera instead of the built-in webcam.

You guys are fantastic. Always such useful and helpful videos. I have never come across a video of yours that was clickbait. Almost everyone on KZfaq gets lazy and tries that but you've never disappointed. Keep it up. I'm still learning and haven't started my channel but when it starts it will be largely due to your assistance. Here is an idea for a video: "What equipment I would use if I started today". The biggest decision facing most people starting is the equipment but things move on so quickly it's hard to know what's good for this minute.

Justin, THANK YOU for your super-effective trainings!! Question: Using a 1080p capture card vs a 4k card...would going up to 4k make a difference at the viewer end? I'm using a JVC 4k videocam when I livestream. Have used a 1080p capture card, but now the price on a 4k version is so inexpensive. But would my viewers need 4k viewing ability to make a visible difference? THanks for any feedback!

Even if you’re broadcasting in 4k, it’s likely most of your viewers would be 720p or 1080p so it may be unnecessary. If you want to record high quality into your computer then that’s where the 4k can be handy right now

@@PrimalVideo I assume this works as well for direct-to-drive recording. Seems like this would save a lot of time versus filming on an SD card and uploading afterward. I find watching myself on the little LCD does not give me an accurate sense of the picture. Being able to see myself on the full screen could save valuable time. Is this how you shoot your vids? Or do you transfer from SD to your computer afterward?

Thanks for this information! I have the Panasonic GH5 with the latest firmware. I just installed the LUMIX Webcam Software on my iMac (with MacOS 10.15 Catalina), and it works great when I choose it as my video source in the Zoom Preferences. However, I thought I could also control some camera settings from within LUMIX Webcam Software? After installing and restarting, the software is nowhere to be found, not in the Applications folder and nowhere else. Is it only a resource, like a plugin? How then can I control the camera?

When looking to see if a camera has clean HDMI output, you need to look for PC output, because even if a camera states that it does not have clean HDMI output, that's only for a standard TV/monitor. For example, Sony HDR-CX405 doesn't have it when connected to a TV/monitor, but it has it when connected to a PC via a 4k capture card. Menus will still appear on the PC when you change settings on the camera.

DSLR does work great and the picture quality is incredible - right up to the point the DSLR shuts off with a work around not to be had. Even with Magic Lantern software! I have 2 X Canon T2i, 2 X Canon T3i, and a Canon 2 X G7x MKII. I live stream frequently and the DSLR will shut off. Up to 30 minutes, no problem. A DSLR does look great and it is a viable option for short streams. Or if you simply record segments and then edit in post like DaVinci. I use a Blackmagic ATEM Extreme ISO Pro and yes I use all 6 DSLR and then 2 screen captures. But for a long show, I have to scale back to 3 Logitech webcams with 1 screen capture with OBS.

They do have power adapters that eliminates the battery all together which allows for continuous use. Google it and you'll find the one for your camera. Good Luck

No it doesn't because it's linked to your computer which displays and records the video and audio. Would need to have a power adapter instead of a battery for continuous use.

Hey! Your best bet is to first try using your smartphone for live streaming and see how that goes. There are many cameras that would work for live streaming so it'd hard to say what will work best for you! 👍

I have a question, I have a small investigation company . What we do is video. How do I set up my agents with body cams, cameras in our vans and helmet cams? And transmit that to a base office in real-time. So what I'm seeing The people, on the other end can see in real-time. I need help, please.

Hi Justin is there a way or software that you know of that allows live steaming for Facebook, KZfaq, Instagram and Twitter altogether? I know you did one about Facebook and KZfaq a while ago.

Not that include Instagram unfortunately. Streamyard or Restream are good options outside of that one though
