Digitalis - causes accumulation of calcium ions within cardiac cells. But what is its mechanism of action ? A common MCQ in physiology and pharmacology and a short answer question in pharmacology. Share your answer below

Very nice explanation ma'am but one question is sodium entering with glucose as facilitated diffusion or what?
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 9 ай бұрын
No it’s secondary active transport- sodium moving along gradient, glucose moving against gradient…in facilitated diffusion substances move along gradient only

@@PhysiologyOpen exactly first one was against the gradient but the subsequent one that brought the glucose i was asking for that one

ma'am , what would happen if we collected so many sodium potassium pumps and then kept them on a membrane that has high sodium and low potassium concentration inside ? Would it still transport sodium inside to outside and potassium from outside to inside? Similarly , I saw in a book that transporter proteins involved in facilitated transport transport bidirectionally . i.e, if it transports molecules from outside to inside with a conformational change , to attain original confirmation it will again transport a molecule in opposite direction . So how will net transport in a particular direction occur. Is their some principles of chemical kinetics that governs this?

Answer to 2nd part: whenever we talk about transport- we talk about net transport, bidirectional it means net transport will always be from higher to lower concentration

Answer to part 1... pumps transport unidirectionally because their affinity to the molecule decreases in opposite configuration. So it will work according to affinity...which is high for potassium outside and high for sodium inside...
