For higher pressure or irrigation I always recommend Emery cloth the pipe before prime and weld,it takes off the clear seal and helps with the reaction.I use all purpose clear cement.

@@HandymanHertz I followed your instructions - and it all worked! I would add: maybe put the cleaner and cement jars in a low profile plastic box to protect your tools, etc in the event of a spill by wind or human. Thanks again. High five.

Do you have a video on capping? (how to select the right type and how to install) Confused by pressurized vs non, as well as whether water valves need only be shut off locally or at a main source. My initial thought was that as a drain pipe, the water wasn't a concern, but I have seen some confusing advice online. I am needing to trim down an unused sink drain pipe that sticks out from the wall about 12 inches in our laundry room. (We want to place our deep freezer there instead of using it for a sink--but want to preserve enough on the drain pipe in case we need it at some point in the future.) I am a single mom and would like to do this myself since it seems like it should be simple.

I do not have a video on capping, but I may be able to help you. If your sure it was to a drain, it will not be pressurized. Cut the pvc correctly (I have a 2 minute video on that) and glue it correctly, as shown in this video. You can take the cut piece to the store for a fitting or measure it for the cap. Very simple. You can do it 👍🏼

Do I need special glue for PVCU?

i'm not familiar with PVCU. maybe you meant PVC? You can use CPVC glue for PVC but you cannot use PVC glue for CPVC. I believe the reason being, pvc is for drains and the glue is not designed to withstand as high of heat like the chemistry in CPVC glue, which, CPVC is for pressurized lines. It would hold up and be leak proof, but would not probably be code in your area to use PVC glue on Cpvc pipe, and would cause issues if theres a fire/ excess heat.

@HandymanHertz No. Its Polyvinyl chloride un-plasticised PVC-U and I was wandering do I really need the specific glue for it, or I can just use regular PVC glue?

After a mind numing adventure with chemical data sheets. I can finally say that (probably) PVC, UPVC and PVCU are all thesame thing. I think the confusion comes from that in Chechia they call PVC a PVC-U. I will use regular cement. I guess if things fall apart, I will know the next time.

I used pvc glue with purple primer on cpvc

From my understanding, that will still work, but it’s not code because it has less heat tolerance than cpvc glue.

Yeah 40-110 degrees. Sheet rock was put up, floated and painted. lol lesson learned, redid them. such a hard kick in the crotch @@HandymanHertz

Champfer helps by taking out any lip that would remove the glue from the fitting. as the pipes slides in, if there is a burr around. That's for the outside, the inside reduced the chance of water turbulence.
