i think he does it in a good humor way and not out of contempt like some comics do. we got hicks up north too and not much is different but the accent. :)

I really like that anyway about Americans, especially Southerners. You know your patriotism is a bit over the top, so you go the extra mile to make absolutely sure no-one has any doubt about the extend of your patriotism. I love it when people can have fun at their own expense.

Why not make fun of blacks or other minorities for a change? Why is it always okay for comics to mock hicks, who are nothing but working class rural Whites, but not blacks?

I know people say that there are no rules (or should be no rules in comedy), but I disagree. You know when someone tells a joke about someone of another religion, ethnicity, etc., and it’s deemed as offensive b/c the comedian isn’t a part of any of those demographics that he’s making fun of? Same applies here. If you’re a southerner making fun of the way we do things, fine. If you’re a northerner/midwesterner, then you making fun of southerners becomes offensive. The humor that makes all southerners look like babbling, ignorant imbeciles is lost on this educated southern girl. He might want to re-think his approach unless he wants to ostracize a significant part of the U.S. and his potential fan base.
