Rockford Fosgate has been a leader in automotive amplifier technology since the 1980's. Their budget series, called Prime, offer many of Rockford's technologies in a price-conscious package. Today we are looking at the most powerful Prime amp, the 1200 watt monoblock R1200.1D.
The R1200.1D is rated to deliver:
400 watts RMS at 4 ohms
800 watts RMS at 2 ohms
1200 watts RMS at 1 ohm
Rockford promises their amplifiers are rated using CEA standards and the Prime series "typically" deliver 10-15% more than rated. Oh yeah? Let's see if this is da truf or is somebody blowin' smoke....

I agree as well. I run a punch 1000.1bd on two under seat sundown E8's tuned to 32hz and it beats the hell out of those 8s and they love it.

For sure. They haven’t been around all these years by luck or accident. I have two of these amps and they are BEASTS!! They’ve always had some of the best, or the best, amps. I’m not a huge fan of their current subs. But really liked the older versions

I remember going to RTTI training back in 2001 and they never miss anything. Our instructor was the one and only Mark Fakuda. Awesome company. I still run the old George Foreman grill looking amps linked together to look like one huge amp.

This really puts the quality of Rockford fosagte out there. I've considered buying this amp but I went with the prime 500 watt amp. I am not disappointed with it at all for 130$. With a birthsheet of 637 watts I would love to see what it would do on your Dyno.

I have used one of these for the past 2 years on a single JL 10" in a ported enclosure. Never had it cut out or overheat and has really good sound quality for such a small footprint.

I've seen a couple of these amps running at 1ohm and they barely get warm to the touch. They seem to be very efficient for its size and power.

I have this amp on a pair of 12w3v3s at 2ohms. It is easily one of the best amps I have ever had. I have always combined fosgate amps with JL subs.

I got the Prime R500.1d beating on a couple of CT Audio 10"'s wired up for 2 ohms and this thing hums right along at 480 watts. Birth sheet that came with it said it was tested to 670 watts at 1 ohm. Love how compact the amp is, makes the install a breeze. Whole setup jiggles my car around like jello. Super impressed for how it sounds considering the amp was only $115 and the subs $50 a piece.

BigD you're always reading my mind or something!! I JUST bought this amp a week ago, I was looking through Ebay and saw a new listing for a used one $99 +$20 shipping!! No Joke!! I snagged it immediately. Talk about MEGA BUDGET!! It didn't come with a bass knob but I was upgrading from the r500x1d which is the little brother to this one so it was just a plug and play swap. Before I installed it I opened it to take a look inside and everything looked pristine and thankfully the amp works great and has been bumpin without issue @1ohm tuned with a DD1! Unfortunately my car only runs at 14.1v cold and 13.8v once it's warmed up but it's still shaking my car apart!! Thanks for the vid BigD!!!

AND THAT'S WHY RF IS STILL MY FAVORITE AMP BY FAR!!! Now that the price has gone down considerably I'm gonna be getting me some too!!! In 2002 I bought the power series 1000bd for 700 dollars (yeah, I bought it from Crutchfield like a dumb ass) and it was still worth every penny!!! I was blowing Kicker CVR 18's like they were nothing with it!!!

This amp series is better than Pioneer’s already-competitive GM D class amps. They just about always outperform their specs with quality components inside. I’ve seen an awesome build where a single Prime amp powered 2x 6x9 coax speakers and 4x Rockford P2 subwoofers from a single amp and it was a monster (and the amp was like $250 which is amazing value for the output)

I have a prime 500, 250, and 250x4. Great budget amps, hard to beat. The kicker cxa's are nice as well. Got a 1200 watt cxa as well and it's freaking tough too. Two thumbs up from me Big D

I use this on my two p3’s at 1 ohm gain at 60% tuned box 38 hz at 3.2 cf fosgates are underrated! I had 1,600 watts at 1 ohm load on em with ranges of 31-50 hertz tough stuff no clipping but did get hot.

I did an install for a friend a few months ago, glad I recommended the Prime R500-1D (along with a single dual voice coil 12" Rockford shallow mount sub and box - a very nicely matched little package) - it's a very solid work horse system for his P/U. I'm very happy with how that install went, and I know he's ecstatic with it. :-)

Did a similar setup in my truck, but I used 2 12" DVC shallow mount RFs with this 1200 amp. It's way more than enough for the subs.

Yep........... Yep...... I’ve always been an RF fan. Ever since my first RF amp back in 1994 (Punch200). That’s “real” power. Not the grossly exaggerated power 90% of other manufactures “claim”. And RF has always included a birthday certificate.

I always love rockford I don't see how people hate on them. I got a power 1000 thats rated at almost twice its watts at 4 ohms and 60% more at 1 ohm. I also have the 1000 punch and its rated 40% more than advertised it puts out 1487 at 1ohm and i got it for 300 on sale its hard to beat rockfords prices and SQ in that price range.

This would have been a great amp to test the idea I had a few weeks back about testing if having a bass knob connected can produce the same output power to an amp that doesn't have the bass knob connected would really love to see if that actually makes a difference, keep up the great work mate loving the videos

Another thing that’s cool about RF is their 1 year warrenty. I mounted the amp upside down and when I wired it I didn’t compensate, and experienced a brief tuitorial in arch welding...realized what I had done called their tech line, They replaced it, that was Solid if them!!!

I have been running this amp hard with 2 p3d4 12s for 6 years with no problems at all. Clean power...whole suv is RF. 4 way 6x9s, 3 way 6.5s and 4 tweeters on a 400.4 and a stinger battery. The only thing I had to replace was the battery which is normal, and I beat on them.

I had a Crossfire c5 1700d amp on 10" Soundqubed Hdc3.1, ended up selling the Crossfire amp and was going to sell Sub too. Had a hard time because I no longer had a amp to demo the sub for a pontiental buyers. I ended up picking up one of these Rockford amps for $120 used just so I could demo the sub, then sell the amp after. I WAS super impressed with this amp that I'am keeping both NOW.. Lol.

I just upgraded my system in my Sierra crew cab, I just put one of these on 4 12” JL Audio W1V3 at 1ohm, holy! Slams pretty hard.

I’m from the old school and 500 watts was a lot of power back then, still is when used with efficient subs. Plus no need to upgrade electrical

So glad I rewatched this, didn't remember you doing the .8 ohms. I just bought some L7's that ended up being 2 ohm dvcs, so I'm sure I'm right around that .8

I've sworn by Rockford Fosgate since 1992... Still run my 1998 and 1999 Punch series amplifiers every day in my pickup. Been through countless vehicles over the years and now are driving SKAR Audio components and FVC 10" Sub... They still rock the house and the SQ is unbelievable!

I have a T1500.1 hammering a 1250 rms orion xtr pro with a 100 amp fuse! it has not blown till this day and this amp just gets warm.. it does not heat up at all.. that's to show you how efficient RF amps are compared to the rest! (well except JL) but I saw your comment on Steve's dyno test about getting one soon! I'm looking forward to it! Can you test the heatsink's ability to pull heat from the components too? :D KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BIG!

The T1500 is one of the 5 I’m going to try in a real world test in my car as well as Dyno testing
