Doug's initial plan was to paint the bottom half silver and leave the black as is, but once he saw how nice the bottom looked he decided to go all the way. The metal is now polished after using 80 grit now we're going to feather the edge using 220 grit 🔥 www.hiltzautoco.com

Its a pity that while the Jaguar was in Chads workshop that the door handles, door trim and sidelights weren't removed. Apart from that it's great to see one of these being renovated.

I love Chad’s sincerity and dedication. I hope he decides to remove the stainless trim. Removing the trim on some cars can be a tedious delicate job that requires skill, the proper tools, and the knowledge/experience with the type of clip being used so that the trim can be removed without damage. I think he should find the right person to remove all the trim before painting the car, and have the same fella reinstall it. Might even be cheaper in the long run. Leaving some of the black paint on the two-tone break seems a little tricky also. I love watching the videos they make. Jolene is a natural. Just great stuff that has something for everyone

These old jags are amazing engineering for there time, they thought of everything. with twin fuel tanks etc. I said this before about the dash boards. The tree farmers would bash the trees to get more marks in the wood. More marks, more expensive the vineeer.

I think you will still see the blend in you new paint job at the point where you are meeting the silver. I think you should have just stripped the bottom as well because if you were having problems with the black on top you'll be having the same problem under the silver paint.

As Chad is sanding the paint there are places that show up with bubbles and imperfections from improper preparation. I agree to stripping off all you can get to. Open the doors to access the areas around the door to windshield pillar, best way to eliminate damage to trim. The good preparation will ensure a good paint spray out. Re-mask the car before paint to remove hidden sanding dust that may be trapped under the chrome trim and masking paper. Chad already knows the routine. I love your dedication to doing it right the first time around. Detail is everything.

I like to use a 3m green 3” bristle disc to take off the chips and any left over paint. It wont take off any metal or warp and it can get pretty close to an edge. I use to use other ways and found this one quite handy try it out works great.

I always stack my thoughts up against logic. You said you were leaving that black edge, along the tape line because you wanted the separation . . . I reason the easiest thing to remove and reapply is the pinstriping . . . why didn't you remove it, sand to the edge, and then reapply pinstripe to have a neat, clean separation . . . just logic?

Along with the hood and trunk gaps. It amazes me that Canada being the home of 3M and Chad doesn’t use a product like soft edge foam to stop the overspray from getting through the door gaps and panel shuts. He doesn’t appear to have a proper masking paper dispenser.
