I'm not successful with pygmy cats. Other fishes in my tank are doing well. All they do is hide all the time and whenever i see one of them, it already have a spore over its dead body

Back in college I had a planted 10 gallon tank with white cloud minnows, and later cherry shrimp. One of my favorite tanks I’ve ever had because it was so simple but so mesmerizing. I like to think it helped keep my sanity in check during finals week as well lol

I’m a Jr in college and I started with a 15 gallon freshwater tank near my desk and now I have a 40 gallon salt water tank in my condos living room with a 2 foot snowflake Eel, this hobby is kinda addictive lol.

Peacock Gudgeon that's a cool name in Germany we call this fish schwarzfleck-schläfergrundel.. I like the English name more it has classic 👍🏻

I find bottom dwellers most interesting,theyre not as active as the others but they look pretty cool and never gets old watching em. But i also love schooling fish, cant go wrong with tetras.

I must say, this is the best, most creative selection of fish I've ever seen for a 10-gallon stocking video, and I've seen a great many of them! I love the idea of the peacock gudgeon, and I think I've found a source locally, so it's top of my list for next thing to try. I'm rather glad you don't suggest tetras, because I've found they do infinitely better the bigger a school you give them, and my new minimum is about 15. That on its own would be enough to warrant a bigger tank for them, but add to that their high activity level, and they definitely belong in a tank with a greater length than you'd find in a 10 gallon. Ember tetras might be small enough to do well in a 10, though, although I don't yet have personal experience with them.

I only have shrimp and snails. It's more about the plants for me but if I had an open tank, a school of white clouds would be cool.

a have one 10 gallon with an Extremely small yellow bullhead catfish in it as well as another 10 gal with a koi thats barely even 2 or 3 inches. they have been working great for a while now. koi will eventually graduate to the 125 gal with the other koi and eventually all of the fish i own will go into the new pond that im getting built very soon.

Isn't 125g too small for multiple koi fish? I think one can keep max 2 koi in 125g. Even 125g is small for 2 adult koi. 125g is only suitable for 2 koi that r not fully grown.250+ g is recommended for 2 adult koi.

Also even if it seems 2 or 3 inches koi is doing great 10g tank. They should be kept in much bigger tanks even if they r only 2 or 3 inches. Keeping them in 10g tank will severely stunt their growth.

All of these are great ideas. Currently have a school of Lampchop Rasboras and a small group of pygmy gourami in a 20g. The pygmy gourami are great for 10g tanks as well but does need to be an established tank

I like Cherry Barbs in my 10g office desk tank. I have Cichlids in my 75g and 125g so the small quick swimmers in the tiny tank are a good contrast.

In all those great videos you really never see anything about Norman's Lampeyes. I have some, together with ember tetras, and I totally love them. They are striking with the blue "lamp eye", busy buzzing around the tank at feeding time, and go on very well with the embers...

Peacock Gudgeon is my absolute #1 favorite as well! My 3 are so happy in my community tank. The centerpiece angelfish and pleco surprisingly don’t bother them at all. I recommend feeding frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms. They don’t like flakes. The are very curious and remind me of a grouper! They love caves and leaf cover

I actually successfully kept a pair of killifish in a 3.5 gallon for about 6 months, I tried to move them into a 30 gallon community where they got kind of aggressive. So they are currently in a 10 that I'm trying to get plants to take off in. May try throwing a peacock grudeon or a school of rasborra in just to add to the CO2 for the plants.

In my ten gallon, I have a pair of female bettas and an albino bristlenose pleco. The tank has java moss and a marimo moss ball, and there is cover for the bettas to get away from each other. There have been several bettas in this tank, but only one died from bullying. I plan to add a carpet plant (probably dwarf hair grass), then try to add in neocaridina shrimp.

I love my 10 gallon setup with live plants! I have blue, red, and red and white shrimp with guppies, neon tetras and cory doras! There's a lot of visual interest and movement!

I'd pick glowlight rasbora over lambchop rasbora if given the choice, i like my see through fish X). Also though i don't keep my rainbow panchax trio (aplocheilus dayi) in a 10 gallon i imagine they'd still do well enough in one.

The rhinogobius might be fun. I'm trying to decide what sort of fish for my tank. I'd like to stick with cool water. It's going to be a unique tank since half of it is a moss/plant garden with two waterfalls that trickle. I'm building 30inch by 12 inch tank (about 20 gallon) but the water is not going to be filled to that level with the glass front going up halfway. I want fish that won't jump and are happy with a slightly shallow tank.

At some point soon I really want to set up a 25 gallon community tank with a betta center piece. I've done a 10 gallon betta tank with a school of neons before. I was lucky with that betta though since he was probably the most chilled out Male I've ever kept. He would follow the neons around alot but never flared at them or chased them, just followed them like he was part of the group

your videos are amazing! i’m researching fish, snails, shrimp, and tanks because i’m looking into getting a pretty easy pet to take care of! i’m currently thinking of getting a 10-15 gallon tank with a betta and a snail or two because i love both bettas and snails a ton! i just have to figure out where to get a not store bred betta near me because they have a shorter lifespan 😅

I’ve kept a few male betta with a mystery snail and they get a long great!! I’ve never had any issue with the betta harming the snail or vice versa

Really enjoy your videos. Every tank I've had always has some kuhli loaches. Right now I have a 10 gallon with two kuhli loaches and a Raphael catfish. The Raphael is about 6.5" long and is 16 years old. I believe the kuhli loaches are almost as old. Hesitant to add any other fish just because of the age of these. It would be a shame for them to pick up a disease and die.

I have a ten gallon and I absolutely love keeping Khuli loaches. I have 5 in there and they love to hang out under the driftwood or climb this plant that I have that’s super super bushy.

In my 42 litre (11 gallons) I keep Clown Killifish and a group of Blue Eye rainbow fish (Pseudomugil luminatus and Pseudomugil gertrudae) such an interesting nano fish, that changes every time you look at them.

So on your advice about the peacock gudgeons I tried these guys out in my planted 10 gallon. I got two and they were fighting all the time so I got one more. So happens it was a female and now I have a spawning pair. That is all they do. Non stop. Amazing and cool little fish . The colors on these fish when they are in spawning mode is brilliant

I’m looking at doing a 10 gallon with a betta, and a school of Harelequin raspboras, and cory catfish. White cloud would be an option as well if not the raspboras.

Great choices. In my 10g planted I have 20 Chili Rasbora's, 2 nerites, and a colony of Blue Dream shrimp. The fish are so tiny and look great in my setup. I'd recommend a minimal of 10 nano fish so they'd feel more comfortable. Not 6 to 8 like a lot of people suggest. Looks like they leave my baby shrimplets alone too.

Mufidat Musafau You can keep shrimp with fish if the fish are small and peaceful. You do need lots of hiding spots for the shrimp. Seach online for fish that can be kept with shrimp

I have an elephant ear female betta, 2 Julii Cory catfish, a nitrite snail and finally 3 tertas! My betta sometimes gets fiesty with the tertas but they don’t ever get too close to each other and respect their boundaries in a sense. Also my Juliis and betta get along very well.

I have never seen a betta with elephant ears. That is just some clever name a shop gave to them to make them sell.

I've had some silver sharks, rainbow sharks and red-tail sharks. The red-tails were quite aggressive but the other ones were docile and beautiful to watch. Another good one is a Kuhli Loach and a Hillstream Loach. The Kuhli looks like a mini eel and the Hillstream looks like a mini stingray. Great additions to any tank.

I've got a 29 and decided to get my 10 back out. I'm getting it cycled right now but was debating on what to stock it with. Great ideas but way to many choices. What plants should I do in this 10? Thanks. I really enjoy your videos when I'm having issues. I'm still a newby and you're a big help.

Agree, that's why I didn't include them for this size tank because for them to feel comfortable they like large groups. Plus, like you said, feeding them takes a little extra effort in a smaller tank once they deal with whatever algae was there to start.

I started with 10 normal white clouds in a 10 gallon, they are realy interesting to watch and i find every second day 4 to 6 babys in the swimming riccia moss

I have had great success with Rosy minnows also in a 10 gallon. I bought a small group of 5 & before I knew it I had 20. They stay small with the females being the larger ones getting up to the size of a betta without all the fins. They also are great community fish as they are mostly middle swimmers & stick to themselves. They never bothered my cories or Chinese algae eater. I also had a betta female with them for a while & they didn't bother her either & she stayed more at the top. So she didn't bother them either. I know Rosy minnows are more of a cold water fish but I didn't use a heater & my house stayed at 75. So the tank stayed at 72. Everyone was fine with the plants until the minnows over population. I wasn't even trying to breed them & even the pet store aquatics people didn't know how to sex them. I found that out myself. Females are larger & have rounder bellies. Males are smaller & slim.

Great video! I enjoy watching your videos have you made any videos about harder water community fish? I'm looking for some ideas the problem I have is the fact that most community fish are happier in neutral to softer water which I don't have! 🐟🐠🐡🦐🦀👍

Love the Peacocks and the fancy fin guppies. Ok really confused as to what to start in my 10 gallon. Mystery snails are about the only ones I'm positive about. Oh well something to think about. Great video! V.

Hard decisions since you can't fit a lot in there! I have a 7 gallon with a male betta and two zebra nerite snails. I just added the betta a week ago after waiting for three months, trying to decide what to get and waiting for the right fish... Eventually sort of got impatient and this guy is beautiful.

Mystery snails are fun. You could add some shrimp and maybe some small type of rasbora?

@@MadCheshireHat Hi, I've started a 10gallon (like I really know what I'm doing) But I'm abt ready. I have a beautiful blue betta. I was sure he was sick have him in a 3 gallon long with alittle more than 1/2 full of water, fluval stratum, gravel, live plants, a heater I control so he never gets cold, his sponge filter, moss ball & seashell. All that and turns out he's just old. For my 1st planted tank, Blue & the plants are doing pretty good. Wish me luck on # 2 10gallon. Sure do like those Peacocks :) But really like the Colorful Bettas. V.

@@VL-bf3iq sounds good! I just recently started getting into planted tanks as well. May I ask why the 3 gallon isn't filled completely? Yes, there's some gorgeous and cool bettas nowadays. When I was a kid, there weren't all these patterns and types available, so it's hard for me now to resist getting them all! Good luck with your new tank!

@@MadCheshireHat Sure, Blue was really struggling to reach the top for air. He was in a 2.5 cube tall w/ silk plants. He stopped eating & looked pretty pitiful he would just lay helpless at the bottom. Every morning, was a dread. I couldn't find anything wrong with him. I decided to make his life alttle easier so I reduced the water more than 1/2 added a pinch of aquatic salt w/ his prime on water changes every other day. Took all gravel out of cube lined bottom with silk plants to make it softer for him & I could monitor his stools. Shelia at Life w/ Pets suggested the salt, her videos are really helpful. Changed his diet to soaked his pellets in some tank water literally fed him by hand, bloodworns, fluval bug bites & repashy grub & a soak skinless pea day before fasting. Of course I reduced the amount, but improved his diet. Happy to say he's Great! Swims in spurts of energy falls to the bottom sleeps alot & good appetite. Sorry this was so long its been a try'n 4 months. But! I seemed to work. Wish I could send you picks. Love watching him, never knew a fish could swim his way into my heart. Viv & Blue V.

Nice ideas Jason! I have a 10-20 gallon tank. I currently have 1 zebra danio, 6 small cories, 5 Indian glass fish and one relative of a Simases algae eater. Those fish are still small tho. In my experience over 1 year, I've kept alot of different fish but these seem to do the best. I think I need to sell the siamese algae eater soon . It used to eat other fish but I've learned how to control its behaviour. I love the glass fish but they are very shy tho

We had at 1 time 14 tiger and green tiger barbs in a 10. It was our shark tank. More aggressive than piranhas! Very cool fish to feed, we'd wash off a piece of sandwich sliced ham and hold it in the tank, man they would go nuts on that ham. We didn't do it a lot but it was a blast to watch! We have platies with our betas and no issues.

@@PrimeTimeAquaticsthey were in a 30 with 3 pleco and they started really messin with the plecos. Couldn't have that so in a 10 they went. They had double the filtration for a 10 as well. We just had an accident in the process of gettin them in a 20 and lost half of them. My daughter was devastated (she's 3) she loves her sharks the most out of all of our fish.

There’s a dwarf rainbow fish I can’t think of the name of that has almost exactly the same colors and markings as a cardinal tetra I remember part of the name (Illuminatous)

So I once bought 4 Odessa barbs years ago for my 20 gallon tank and they were absolute TERRORS and were attacking literally everything in the 20 gallon with them so I rushed to the pet store and bought an emergency 10 gallon for them cuz I didn’t want to kill them or anything and my local fish store where I bought them at was closed. One of the 4 died like a week after the tank move but then I had the remaining 3 Odessa barbs live for 7 years inside that 10 gallon. Although unorthodox, a small pack of odessas barbs could also go in there as long as there’s next to nothing in there with them lol their colors are breathtaking and they are extremely active and watching them eat was incredible, they would literally breach the water getting every last flake.

@@PrimeTimeAquatics Well he’s territorially to other puffers big time. BUT I current have a Dario Dario and a guppy in there with him and he’s accepted them both athough they were in the before Kirmy (puffer) arrived

my favorite fish to keep have always been neon tetras, at the moment I have 5 neon tetras in a 10 gal with a nerite snail and im working on getting one more tetra so i have a whole school. theyre just really pretty fish and very docile too

I've had 5-6 in a 10 gallon without any issues. They did have plenty of line of slight block in a planted tank. If you want to make sure you have no issues maybe just one male would be ideal with a few females.

Vietnamese Zebra Loach (6), Scarlett Badis (3) and Endler Guppies (5) in my 10 gallon, great mix. Would a couple of Cherry Shrimp go okay with that lot?

I generally don't trust loaches around invertebrates. Not 100% sure about the badis either. They can be surprisingly nippy at times. Endlers would only pick off very tiny baby shrimp.

You could get a fair number of ember tetras in a 10 gallon, since they're so tiny you can get a fair number, and they have a really strong shoaling instinct, they look great!

Pygmy sunfish are one of my favorites. If you can provide them with live food daily and provide them with a tank stuffed full of java moss they will be happy.

I currently have a 20g tall that will be heavily planted once my plants finally get here :/ Anyway I have in there now, a pair of Kribe and 2 Mexican dwarf crayfish. I really like the Peacock Gudgeon's you spoke about. Do you think a pair of them would be ok in my tank or do you think they would clash with the Kribs to much? I have been searching for other ideas for my tank that aren't all the same common fish that are always suggested. I like pretty and colorful fish but definitely don't want guppies. Thank

Kuhli loaches. I have a little group in my 6.7 with my non-aggressive male betta and they are a nonstop circus. I am looking now at killifish (gardneri) and either sparkling or croaking gourami for species tanks.

I've also been wanting kuhli loaches! I want to get some for my 25 gallon but PetCo and PetSmart, my only options unless I take a day to visit fish stores further away via public transportation, don't have them available.
