Before it was called Poker, the Italian card game Primiera was the original gambling card game, but what happened to it? Guess what, it's still here. The inventors of the Italian card game, Scopa, left an Easter Egg to make sure that Primiera would live on forever.

Wow as an Italian I played Scopa all my life but never knew the history of the Primiera scoring rules. It baffled me that in such a straightforward game there was such a complex scoring system and then for just a single point. Now it all makes sense and commend whoever came up with the idea to preserve in another game such an historic one. Thank you so much for enlightening me and diving into that rabbit hole and shedding light on this fascinating subject.

Glad you enjoyed it. It really did baffle me for years trying to understand if there was a reason for it or if it was just another Italian thing. Turns out it was both!

One of the best explanation on official Primiera points (which has been so confusing to me)! I loved the Primiera Easter Egg that you throw out. This gives back the legacy and flavour back to this this game. Great work!

Thanks, it’s definitely a mostly forgotten bit of history. We have to do our best to make sure to highlight the pillars of what’s become modern card games. It’s really not less confusing than a game of Root 😂. Thanks for watching!

I've heard about a variation of poker called badugi that uses 4 hand rankings too but Primiera still is better in my opinion. The latin names and history shared with scopa is so cool

Interesting, I’ve never heard of Badugi, where is it from? Primiera certainly had a lot of cousins!

@@Play-In-Games seems like it's from south korea and the name was given by the korean players (baduk), but the game works a lot diferent from primera and regular poker. Still a interesting variation tho

I didn't understand something: can you change cards to improve your hand? How does the bet works?
@Play-In-Games
@Play-In-Games 2 жыл бұрын
From my understanding, you can refresh your hand after the first round if you take the Passing option. If you don't Stake your hand you can pass. Passing in Primiera/o is a bit different than Poker. You don't have to cover the bid and you are given the option of refreshing one or two of your cards. In terms of bets, if you Stake the most recent bet, that means you cover it. If no one Stakes then when the turn comes back to the high bet, all hands must be revealed. The rule set I have linked in the description is the clearest I've found, if you would actually like to play the game. Thanks for the great questions!

Trying my best to add this for scopa but still clueless. Gonna go with most 7s or 6s I suppose.

@@Play-In-Games seems like without the rule I don't understand that the game plays itself. You get cards and play them expectedly most every play.
