@elhorrendo7026
@elhorrendo7026 2 жыл бұрын
I can. Primus is amazing. They deserve to be there. But these “halls of fame” are more dependent on fame than talent. There are famous talented groups who belong there and some that are there that may not. Like the hip-hop hall of fame. Immortal Technique and Sage Francis will probably never get in there, but they deserve a special place of recognition for being not only among the greats, but truly independent. Primus should have a place in Rock & Roll Hall of fame. The 3 musical entities I mentioned, I imagine all don’t care if they’re in their respective hall of fame, but might take heart in knowing the world is less concerned with fame and more concerned with music that is different and truly of a category and standard beyond the main stream.

@EverestBlizzard

@@jamesmccarthy1704 Thats just completely incorrect. To be able to write lyrics like Eminem, string them all together, remember them live, get them to the speed which he has is no mean feat. To be able to have flow and rhythm while balancing it with meaning and not just having it be a word salad is seriously impressive. I agree that he shouldn't be in the rock hall of fame 100%, but just calling him untalented is wrong.

Can you imagine how different Primus would be if they didn't let Les sing lead? I saw an interview where he discussed forming his act. And so many of his closest peers told him: "you are no singer, man. Go get a singer. Or a guitarist who can sing." Les went with his gut and kept the vocals for himself. I think it worked. This song is one of my favs that he belts out! 8:25... SO GOOD!

In a town in southernmost Sicily Lived a family too proud to be poor In the year that fever took father away They hastened for American shores Now a mother and her son are standing in line It's a cold day on Ellis Isle And they look to the Statue of Liberty For the boy we have American life Ong is a Laotian refugee He works in the audio trade The smoke from flux is filling his lungs He's earning minimum wage Spending spare time down on San Pablo ave Once a week gets a woman for the night And he writes home tales of prosperity For the boy we have American life Bob is an unemployed veteran Born and bred in the South Bronx He's living off the streets down in east L.A Residing in a cardboard box Now he plays a little guit and he has a small dog Searching for aluminum cans And he hold on tight to his dignity He was born into American life

Not really. It’s one of the easier songs on Seas Of Cheese (that’s not to say it’s a bad song, which it isn’t and the jam section is really awesome.) 90% of it is the same triplet hammer-ons on the D string and an open G string, so once you get that down with the 8th-note strumming then you more-or-less know the song. Of course, it’s a bit trickier if you sing at the same time like Les. Now, songs like “Is It Luck?” and “Tommy The Cat” on the other hand...
@CartoonKidOLLY
@CartoonKidOLLY 3 жыл бұрын
@@Logan912 right, that pattern in it self is not what i'm referring to. To play it the exact way les claypool does, he strums the D string ONLY from 3 to 5 fret. He plays it both on the up and down stroke while simultaneously muting any noise from the G string. If you can imagine, doing this constantly over and over again while muting that G string is really difficult. Whenever I play it, the G string will always sound.
@newusernamehere4772
@newusernamehere4772 3 жыл бұрын
It's really easy to play the bassline on guitar, haven't picked up a bass in a while and I imagine it's a little more difficult than guitar but if you get a guitar and practice on that til it's second nature it should be easier on bass. A lot of Les's licks are like this because he plays bass very much like a funk lead guitar (Michael Hampton is a good example, or Bootsy Collins it you're looking for another bassist demonstrating a similar style). Basically you have to be able to shred, but on bass. It's easier said than done, but in this particular song I still think Ler's lead guitar parts are harder to figure out, at least they have been for me. All I know for sure is he likes diminished intervals and playing like a twisted death metal hybrid of Randy Rhodes and Jerry Garcia, with some classic funk and blues thrown in.

One of the best things about Primus in 2011 is that everyone was still in the moment, taking in this epic version of American Life...only a few cell phones out at 9:50 after an epic instrumental that makes a Primus show what it is.
