For decades Prince George’s County has carried the unique distinction of the country’s wealthiest majority Black county, but data now shows that title belongs to neighboring Charles County. Prince George’s County Bureau Chief Tracee Wilkins reports on what’s behind the trend.

This is good news that the two wealthiest majority black counties in the country are here right next to each other. Now the comparison is really no comparison (population size wise) when Prince George’s County’s 2023 population (998,335) is 5x more than Charles County’s (172,638). Also what people really should be looking at specifically in PGC is all of the “other” folks that are moving in AND the new “commercial businesses” that are moving in and opening up (new commercial TAX REVENUE) as well as the new Southern MD Rapid Transit light rail 🚈 system that will be coming from Charles County into Prince George’s county in the next 10-15 years. More successful profit earning businesses (generating local, state and federal taxable income) is what improves every jurisdiction (schools, roads, safety, transit, housing, etc etc etc)

None of the money from property taxes is being used properly in this county. Taxpayer money is being wasted. The same public schools that were around 50 years ago in Prince George's County are the same schools barely standing today. Why aren't new schools being built? Everyone living in this county who knows better has their kid enrolled in a private school somewhere, but these same people are paying thousands in property taxes that are suppose to go towards updating public schools and making conditions in the county better. Residents are paying all this money in property taxes, but they get NOTHING in return for it. No better schools, no health food grocery stores, nicer restaurants, modern clubs, etc. And it's because black people must vote, vote for the right people, and complain to politicians and officials. Politicians must be regularly bombarded with letters, visits to their offices, or even VOTED OUT of office for major changes to happen. Also, the crime in this county is outrageous. It's the reason why people and businesses WITH MONEY and capital to build don't come to this county. Corporations and business owners avoid black neighborhoods because they're concerned about theft, crime, and vandalization. No one is going to invest in an area where crime is prevalent. Black people must have much more structured and organized households. Get MARRIED before having kids to establish more unified and supportive home environments for youth to stay academically preoccupied with their studies and out of trouble.

The roads and trash in Prince George's County makes one feel ashamed. The Black government of the County are Mia and unresponsive to the their constituents. For Shame!!
@artisanhome8980
@artisanhome8980 Жыл бұрын
@@pearbear319 Maria do not feel ashamed. You deserve a decent place to live, work, and enjoy recreation. It is the fault of racist and neglectful politicians who ultimately decide which residents in America get more than they need, and which residents get absolutely nothing. Their decisions are all based on zip codes. Every politician knows where predominately black, white, and Latino people live in America, just as we all do. They are not going to flood communities of color with millions of dollars for newer schools and infrastructure when they don't live in these communities. Most people think of their self-interest first. Politicians' kids are enrolled in private schools. They pay thousands in tuition for their privileged kids to attend elitist schools. If they're spending all this money for their kids to attend the best schools the DMV has to offer, then why would they spend millions of state money to educate students of color attending public schools, for free? Think about it. A lot of these politicians detest public schools. They would never let the government teach their children. They would never enroll their kids in public schools to be educated in ways that aren't aligned with their core values. So, how can we expect them to support public schools, much less the students of color enrolled in them?

@@artisanhome8980 to develop a solution to crime in PG county, need to go back to when in history did black American boys become violent. Then address that root cause. Slaves weren't violent, neither were descendants of slaves for the first 100 years after emancipation. Then something happened to black American families. War. Vietnam specifically, where black American boys were pushed to use guns, commit homicide, and use hard drugs. Today we live in a post Vietnam black America.

You're saying the same thing I'm thinking! This is not a good comparison. Also, I'm not trying to appear paranoid, but, Hell, I don't know if there's an underlying message in this revelation that Charles County is now the new King. Is it a subliminal message giving one the impression that there's far less crime and better schools in CharlesCounty? "Come to Charles County and be free!!!" That will last about 10 years.😀

Having grew up in Prince George’s County it’s mostly the wealthy cities and towns outside the beltway that make up for Prince George’s County wealth. On top of that northern Prince George’s County inside the beltway from hyattsville proper all the way through Chillum and College Park have experienced gentrification and other parts of the county too, though not as much. Second place is still good but we can do better!

Most of the public schools in DC, PG and Charles County are not that great. a lot of them went to Charles county at first. The St Charles development was a major white flight area when it was started. Many white families moved out of PG County to Charles county because of busing. Nowadays, the homes selling in the new parts St Charles are mostly selling to black home buyers. the white people leaving Charles county nowadays are either moving to Calvert or st Marys county, down south, or are passing away.

Does this explain why In PG and Charles County, I experience aggressive drivers damn near causing crashes on a daily basis? Is this a race issue you ask? How do I know. 98% of the aggressive drivers have windows tinted so dark, you can't see anything inside at all. When I see crime stats take a nose dive for the good then we'll celebrate. But for now, the almost daily posts from Charles County Sheriff about finding guns in schools doesn't exactly paint a positive picture for this story. It isn't a police or school problem, it's a parenting problem and the lack of the justice system holding people accountable for their actions. Laws apply to everyone. The color of your skin isn't an excuse to use a "card" to commit crimes.
