For those who don't know, the black and red flowers on the wreath are Flanders poppies. They are a traditional symbol for sacrifice and are often worn to commemorate the sacrifice of soldiers on occasions such as ANZACS Day. So a wreath of them is an appropriate testament to the sacrifice of the unknown servicemen entombed in that shrine.

Yes in the UK there is a Poppy Day in which you can buy a poppy which goes to support service men and women in need . I'm not sure if this goes back to after WW1 for the rehabilitation of the serving troops .

they are an acting military body within the UK military, so they regularly swap regiments who protect the queen and her family. So technically you aren't respecting the men and women who laid down their lives but it is respecting the men who are acting within the military and this moment and can be deployed if needed to

Holy crap I was there! When I was in middle school a group of us went to DC. Our tour guide was trying to avoid the giant crowd with the Prince and then we go to watch the changing of the guard. All the sudden a band comes out and the tour guide has this shocked look on her face and then Prince Harry shows up. After this she said we tried to avoid the crowd with him and instead got a special treat getting to see the Prince! One of my favorite memories of DC

The revolution was fought to protect the colonies right to be free Englishmen. The "tyranny" was added later... Here, you have the grandson of the queen, the brother, uncle and son of the future kings... laying a wreath at a memorial of a soldier to that very colony in the grounds of the house that used to be owned by the top general of the confederacy that tried to break it up. The Anglo Saxon world has a shared history and needs to protect its shared futures.

Now, if we could just get our fellow American tourists to treat the British guard regiments on post at Buckingham palace, the Tower, St. James palace, Windsor Castle, etc., etc., with more respect. They are men who have (or will) serve in combat zones like H.R.H. here. Tourists who don't bother to learn anything mistakenly think they are costumed employees of the Monarchy there simply to give the place color and atmosphere, sort of like a theme park.

ShadowMoon the UK absolutely supported he South after the Trent Affair. They were very close to invading the north from Canada, positioning close to 20,000 troops on the border. Instead they went ahead imposed a naval blockade on the North after the North released the ambassadors (the Trent affair nearly caused France AND Britain to join the south. The North nearly were obliterated when they decided to board foreign ships and arrest ambassadors asked to come to France and Britain). I do not support any of the South’s intentions but please do not spread false facts.

Mingo La Flare One thing I do know is that the British parliament overwhelmingly voted in favour of the abolishment of slavery in 1807. The empire convinced many other European powers to follow suit such as Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, Spain etc.. And the Royal Navy dedicated a substantial amount of their power to the freeing of slaves. IMO, it’s hard for me to believe that the empire would ever ally with the confederacy. And if that was the case, then I’m certain the empire would’ve had an ulterior motive and a plan to stab the south in the back in order to continue their enforcement of freeing slaves.

The British Monarchy still has very close ties and respect for America. Remember, they were our leaders at the inception of this Country and the first American's were British citizens for over 100 years loyal to the Crown of Great Britain. Many citizens did not want to break away from the Crown and had it not been for the States representatives who voted to succeed from Britain, we very well may have been The United States of Britain. It was awesome that Harry showed this highest respect.

@2paranoid895
@2paranoid895 7 жыл бұрын
dog guy - There are 3 distinct salutes to symbolise each branch of the British armed forces. 1) Royal Navy salute is the same as what all US military personal are custom to, (eyebrow with palm facing down). 2) British Army, (what Harry is). 3) Royal Air Force, (same as army but touching temple of head near the ear). I prefer the Navy salute which is what the US military uses :)

@2paranoid895
@2paranoid895 7 жыл бұрын
dog guy The Army and RAF are basically the same, just slightly different positioning and helps to identify out of dress. The reason why it's different for the Navy is because, when sailors used to tar the ship decks, they used white gloves to protect their hands. Because it was considered undignified to suddenly have to come to attention and salute with a dirty palm, the hand was turned 90 degrees with the palm facing the ground. The original salutes however, came from medieval knights lifting his visor to identify himself: "This is who I am and I'm not afraid".

Prince Harry would have never have been with Megan if his beautiful, strong and courageous mother was still here. Such a disgrace that witch of a wife he has has made him to be who he is now.

i think Prince Harry will be the British Royalty's secret weapon.he can do selfies and engage and do cuddles and when it get's down to the serious job,he just gets on with it.

It's a little out of date by now, five years later, but this video shows a respect from Prince Harry of our Honored Fallen that makes his marriage to an American absolutely beautiful!
