Mustafa wasn't innocent, but he wasn't guilty of any wrong or treachery. People at that time depicted him to be the 2nd Yavuz Sultan Selim. Mustafa was more ambitious like his grandfather. Hurrem feared if Mustafa became Sultan, he would kill all his brother (including Cihangir) that's she had Rustem Pasha made a plot against Mustafa and made Suleyman do the unthinkable.
