I remember when my late father was playing this game, with our old pc win 98.. this game was so hard that my father have to tried many times, but I remember when he finished this game for the first time his face is beamed with a proud smile..

An amazing thing: I used to play this game obsessively, completing it numerous times, around 25 years ago. Since then I haven't touched it once. Until last week. Lo and behold, every pixel of it is still intact in my muscle memory. I don't even have to think to finish it.

+qsqua Yeah, it was a difficult game for sure. The old games where alot more difficult back in the day. Nowadays the Dark Souls series is considered difficult, just compare that to the games of old like Rush n Attack, Punch Out and so on.

I remember when I used to play this game when I was 4. I never made it past this 7:00 jump because I didn't know that we could hold on to ledges. If I did I would probably have cleared it. But the fact that I cleared almost 2 levels of this game at that age still fascinates me. Good ol' days!

This game, since early times was so hypnotic in how fluid the sprite animation is, i could watch for hours and it wouldn't bother me.

It was one of if not the earliest use of rotorscoping in a video game. Check out a video on how Mechner filmed his brother running to make the animations!

The developers used a technique called rotoscoping. It's not hard to do, however it's a very tedious process.

This game used to give me creepy vibes. But still I loved it. Also I find the whole shadow thing super cool. Having to sheath your sword to "defeat" it is such a powerful moment. Amazing game.

What an archaic masterpiece, the game is definitely one of the best games of all time, still the sword plays, with all simplicity, is more satisfying and exhaustive than most of the current sword and gunplay, the ability you can parry your opponents and the presence of your deceitful should make this that full-bodied that even I sometime play this game and spend 30 minutes of my precious time to defeat Jaffar and save Sultan's daughter. A very huge thanks to Jordan Mechner and those who care about Persian rich culture and religion!

I know every one knows this but watching this video i noticed how much Tomb Raider took inspiration from POP. The gameplay mechanics, the traps (spikes and blades) and going from a grey-ish invoriment (Dungeons and Caves) to a yellow/brown colored architecture (Palace and Ancient Greek). Thanks for sharing this gameplay video! :)

Terka Kodetová From what I remember, you had to stab with the sword AND advance at the same time. The skeleton doesn't suffer loss of life when cut by a sword, but it does retreat. By advancing yourself, you force it to change sides. It's automatic. Once its back is to the falling tile direction, you can stab it and advance each time the skeleton retreats. (In other words, stab, and only when it falls back, step forward. Repeat.) Edit: Oh, I think you had to block-stab-forward (up key), in that quick sequence, to prevent the skeleton from just retreating, and force it to change sides. At 20:20, I think you could tiptoe across the room, so the guard doesn't realize you come up behind him.

good job. get your record time up at the beginning.. in the first level.. when you drop from the first tile,, you can skip the whole level by not getting the sword. stand very close to the right of the screen where the first goon is and when he gets close enogh, run away and go around where you can skip him and pass the level..
