Ubisoft hasn't made a game quite like this in ages, but I hope it's the beginning of such a movement. Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown is not just a strong metroidvania title, but also boasts a strong narrative. Don't sleep on this one!

It's no secret Ubisoft has extremely talented developers. The rate at which they produce these games really makes you wonder what they'd make if they were given much more time and creative freedom, instead of being forced to output the same style of games most often I think if Ubisoft just managed projects differently and greenlit different ideas they'd have such a vast wealth of creative games and high selling ones too The reason Ubisoft sells so many games following that open world formula is because it's relatively safe and easy to get high sales for. It's not really a risk. Actually one game I respected, though still have problems with was Watch Dogs Legion. I actually thought the concept of playing as any NPC was really ambitious and different. I think it was an execution problem, but I could see the passion behind the idea. Still, I'd much rather have a game like that come out that tries something unique vs the same copy pasted activities in open worlds

Concerning your main critique point, the difficulty: this game is showcase example for accessibility. It let's you customize enemy damage and health freely in small increments, if the premade difficulty modes don't fit you. In addition to many, many more accesibility options.

These options really only apply to combat, which isn’t that hard and is more forgiving. A single mistake won’t kill you. Some of the platforming sessions outside of the compulsory ones (which have a teleport) are pretty tough and a single mistake sometimes puts you back a long way

First of all ty for the review. For me the highest point was how faithfull story telling was towards persian mythology (aside the hair cuts ofc). Whilte previous POPs were great games they came from "1001 arabian nights" which showed very little of persian mythos and it was in babylon which is technichally not persia. This one blew my mind!!! Instead of 1001 nights it comes from "Shahname" (The book of kings), which contains the pre-islamic persian mythos (shahname is basically warhammer of middle east). The persian community is exploding atm, we cant say how greatfull we are, thanks the Ahura Mazda for this!

For me i prefer my metroidvania games to be more metroid: alone exploring alien worlds blocked off by abilities. I wasn't the biggest fan of the genre adopting dark souls, hollow knight, and castlevanias astethic and simple one note gameplay for how much they focus on action: take pot shots, dodge rinse repeat. Played the demo of this last night and this is what I expect from a game that focuses on combat: fast combos, launchers, air combos chaining into ground combos, fast slick movement, visually stimulating and satisfying animations for successful parries. This looks like a breath of fresh air for me, a good reason to return to the genre after metroid dread. Not really a fan of modern metroidvania feeling the need to pad themselves to 20+ hours nowadays but the gameplay itself looks like it will be fun enough to hold me over for the length. Platforming was also really fun.

This game got written off right off the bat for not playing as the actual prince, the off-putting rap music in the trailer, people judged the main character's hair, a lot of millennials complaining how gen z this comes across as, and just the fact that ubisoft has this track record that people just don't like. But I think they're onto somthing here with this one. I will definitely check this out with an open mind, thanks Matty!

Sure the first trailer wasn't great but everything afterwards was solid. People just like to shit on anything and everything Ubisoft, whether that's fully deserved or not. Also it's hilarious how there were so many people bemoaning the shift to 2D gameplay and how The Lost Crown was "straying away from Prince of Persia's roots" when in reality it's the exact opposite because Prince of Persia STARTED OFF as 2D. Seems like those ppl didn't have a clue about Prince of Persia outside of the Sands of Time reboot. It's refreshing to see "this game is gonna flop hard" comments age like milk for once.

As someone who loves Yakuza, Persona and FF VII, I'm telling you: knowing what I know now, after finishing this game, this one would be the first pickup for me. Yes, finishing Yakuza and seeing how things are going for Kiryu, before someone throws a spoiler at you, is important, and a reason to play it asap, because social media sucks, but, at the end of the day, it's just another Yakuza game. Sure, this PoP is another metroidvania, but it mixes so many things from so many genres that you'll not find anything similar, because no one made a metroidvania like this one before. Games can do some of the things this game does, but not everything.

The story in the other the other hand…terrible…Outside of the anime fight cutscene man that story was predictable and very blockbuster movie like. You have already seen this type of story archetype so much time. And without spoiler, there is a character the dev completly forgot and they vanished at some point until Sargon mention that character at the very end…What a gigantic plot hole seriously

if you die at a boss you spawn at the boss room.

I usually avoid Ubisoft games like the plague because I can't stand their bloated generic open world AAA crap. Prince of Persia though? It's a stunning metroidvania, I'm having so much fun with it.

It's 15-20 if you just mainline the story. 30 hours if you wanna go for 100% depending on how good you are at platforming

The demo to this game was great. However, at 50 dollars, the price point of this game is just too high to justify a purchase.

That’s less than most AAA games, I really don’t understand this take, especially with this level of polish and scale.
