Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Weller: all three geniuses. As well as writing some of the most insightful and relevant lyrics of all time, all three could also walk into a recording studio, play all the basic instruments to record the tune, then even go off and produce it, too. Artists like that, who understand their music and message completely, come along rarely, and never seem to live long enough to share the bounty of joy they have inside them (Weller the exception that proves the rule). Prince especially was a very misunderstood person. Hendrix was and Weller is, too. I just feel sorry for those who don't 'get' what these artists are about: the masses are too quick to judge based on look or stereotype alone, thus isolating themselves from some of the best music ever made. More reason for those who do appreciate it to go into ::smug mode::

He speaks so much wisdom and truth in his songs. He was a highly intelligent and knowledgeable Man. This song has so much positive and truthful meaning. Although this song was released almost 30 years ago, it is so relevant in this generation and society that believes Money is everything. Teachers, Parents and people in high authority positions always tell us from a very young age that we need an education to get a very good job if we want to earn a lot of money. However there is more to life than just earning a large wage or pay cheque. Life is about building healthy relationships and caring for one another and feeding children who are starving on a daily basis in poorer countries. All the moments in life that are filled with good memories are more important than Money. When you was born, you didn't come out of your mother's Womb with money and when you die you can't take money with you. Prince always wrote songs that are meaningful and that can help you in real life challenging situations. I am eternally Grateful to Prince for the life changing impact his Music and Life has had on me personally and Society. He was and still is a great example, friend to many of us. He is dearly missed. Gone but never forgotten.

There are fewer musicians. There is a bigger and growing audience that doesn't appreciate musicianship and heartfelt and clever lyrics. The music industry only cares about replicating what moves units. The audiences are more polarized and tribalised than when art was created. The artists are more educated but less experienced and knowledgeable than ever, so they are more easily guided by the masses and pleasing the lowest common denominator among them than they are relating to anyone's soul. There are more "plant" artists than there are true individuals. I could go on, unfortunately. 😔

My all time favourite Prince song, I was a 7 year old white girl from a little village in the UK when my Dad would play this album all the time, and I felt its poignancy then! The lyrics ring true to this day, sadly not much has changed in the world and it is so relevant. "Anything is better than a picture of a child in a cloud of gas", gosh it makes me cry to this day. P.s my background is probably not relevant to many, but Im trying to show how far and wide Prince's lyrics amd musical genius reached people from everywhere x❤

This song is another one of my Prince favorites. The lyrics in this song is so very true. “Money Don’t Matter, because just when you think you got more than enough, that’s when it all up, and flies away.” Another lyric: “Hey look at this cool investment, that’s telling you, you just can’t lose; but you see is snakes in every color, every nationality, and size.” The song was released in the early 90s, and I used to listen to it over & over again back then. One of Prince’s best songs lyrically.

Warner Bros. Prince's record label at the time and MTV banned the 1st version of this video because they said it was too depressing and Prince nor his band refused to appear in it. Prince said he wanted to put more attention on the terrible realities of poverty, war, and how materialistic and shallow the world had become! Warner Bros. forced Prince to shoot this video, a completely different video without many shots of the poor black family portrayed in the original video talking about a better life! They basically muted their message of hope and the true meaning of this song. This was when Prince asked to be released from his contract with Warner Bros. and when he changed his name to a symbol. He also demanded his master recordings and ALL of his publishing!! Warner Bros. finally conceded to his demands, but tragically he died in 2016 and his greedy family members (Who never supported Prince, or had anything to with his music} broke open his private vault and started selling off his publishing and unleased songs to the highest bidder!! They turned Prince's private Minneapolis home/compound "Paisley Park" into a museum and even put his cremated ashes in an urn in his house as a tourist attraction?! Prince's legacy and the message of this song have been totally distorted, diluted, and exploited for money! SMH!! Rest In Peace, Prince!!
