I'm not a fan of Charles but he didn't have an affectionate upbringing either. There are videos of when he was little (same age as Will in this clip) where the Queen returned from a long trip & when she saw her children, she didn't hug them so Charles probably wasn't used to being affectionate until after Diana died where he was there for his 2 boys. Sad really but he was close to the boys.

@@nvwcj22 I agree that he became closer to his boys after Diana died...he stepped up and has been very much a part of their adult lives. With regards to him not getting affection from his mother, he always greets both his parents with a kiss on the cheek and a kiss on the hand for his mother. That affection came from somewhere, he didn't just wake up one day and decide to show affection to his parents. The Queen and Philip were attentive parents behind closed doors but they were away a lot when their children were young. It is also worth noting that Diana did not have a close relationship with her distant father and her mother abandoned her when she was six but she still grew up to be a loving and affectionate adult.

Charles might have been a terrible husband but to give him credit, he was a good dad. Even Diana admitted that despite what happened between her and Charles, he was a good father. He used to change nappies and give bottles when they were babies and even Diana said he was a hands-on father. Obviously he wasn't a theme-park-and-McDonalds type parent like Diana was, but he was there for them in his own quiet way. It's worth noting that when Harry got into cocaine, it was Charles who took him on a tour of a drug addiction clinic and told him to take a good look at where he was headed if he didn't stop. I don't think people realise that when Diana died Charles became an instant single dad.

Being a real Queen means sticking to the Royal protocol no matter what,. Diana hated the protocol. That is the reason why her marriage didn't last. It is not because of Duchess Camilla or Dianas affairs.
