SO glad that Susan's still around to set the record straight. Apollonia's tall tales about deserving writing credit on Prince's songs (only his hits, by the way) is disrespectful to the musical community, the craft itself, and to his legacy.

I have been a Prince fan for many years, I never bought into that Apollonia helped Prince write any of his songs. I am glad Prince's sound engineer back in the eighties Susan Rogers is telling us the truth.
@boondoggle4820

When people claim to have written songs, my thought is always for them to show us their own verifiably independently written material. We have plenty of verifiably independently written , performed, and arranged music from Prince, and we can see the consistency in his material. I'm skeptical of anyone who claims now to have written any of his songs without their own material for us to compare and contrast it to. I think that some of these people are embellishing. They may have made a joke or an offhand comment that inspired or that he used as a line in a song or something like that, but that doesn't mean that they wrote the song or cowrote the song.

@@boondoggle4820 Exactly it is ridiculous that Apollonia should even claim to have helped Prince write any of his music. She said, she won a poetry contest when she was younger and could write Haiku. That is why Prince would have her help write lyrics to his songs. First of all Haiku is old Japanese poetry with just three lines. You cannot just write song lyrics because, you know Haiku or won a poetry contest when you were younger. Prince was writing music and song lyrics before he met Apollonia. Prince was doing all of this as a young teenager before he even had recording contract with Warner Brothers records. Apollonia forgets she replaced Vanity in Purple Rain and was hired help. To top it all off she claimed she wrote the music to "The Glamorous Life" and brought the song to Prince. First of all Sheila Escovedo comes from the Escovedo family. Her dad is latin jazz percussionist legend Pete Escovedo. If anyone knows latin jazz and how to write music in that style, it is Sheila not Apollonia. Apollonia is not even a real singer, she can't even sing. Prince used Jill Jones, Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman's voices with her non singing voice to make the Apollonia 6 album listenable. Now Apollonia is a songwriter? OMG I can't even believe you even had Prince fans even believing this nonsense. Apollonia is just blatantly lying so she can sell her book about her time with Prince which wasn't that all that long to begin with. Apollonia is just a b rated actress and model, she is no songwriter.

@@scottyjordan3036 I just saw an interview with Dr. Fink on this channel, former member of The Revolution. He was asked did Prince write Maniac Monday and he flat out said yes. You can argue all you want but Apollonia had nothing to do with Maniac Monday. Prince originally wrote Maniac Monday for Vanity 6 back in the early eighties before Apollonia even came around. Apollonia is trying to take credit for something she didn't do. Also Matthew Fink was in Prince's band for many years and Susan Rogers was Prince's sound engineer for many years. You want to argue with them who were there? Be my guest.

Peggy clearly worked on the Vanity 6 version (she even said she thought it was "for Vanity 6"), where Prince recorded the instrumentation and guide vocal for Vanity at Sunset Sound. Brenda says Vanity's vocals were recorded, so maybe he did those vocals with her in MN with Don Batts. The others, per the dates of their involvement with the track, worked on an Apollonia 6 version. Timeline arithmetic. Rogers shouldn't assume that what she saw in his lyric notebook was about her.

@@darkknightsds Correct, Sandra, besides vanity wasn't a virgin like the song says. I'd like to see a picture of Sandra in 83-84. But I probably can guess what she looked like, the other 12 women that looked alike. And Susannah already said 2 times the song was about prince's girlfriend/assistant. That song probably pours out the most love in prince's vocals. And he didn't release it! Maybe it was too painful to let everyone know how much he loved her, because susannah was also standing there. Do you know if "Don't talk to strangers " was also about Sandra? Prince wrote that around the time Sandra left.

Thats typical for girlfriends of musician boyfriends. They are always throwing ideas to their man/woman. Another time on the phone she could of said "Just another manic Monday" to him.
