I'm 61 years old. Remember the exact moment I first heard this song. I was 15 years old at a roller skating rink. It was 1977. Bought the album and have been a Prince fan ever since. Feel so blessed to have grown up during that time.

Prince was not only a genius musician but a beautiful person. Not a bigoted bone in his body. My dad was a driver on the purple rain tour and prince treated him like royalty. He never forgot it.

At one point in 1984, Prince simultaneously had the No. 1 album, single, and film in the US; it was the first time a singer had achieved this feat. No music star will ever beat that feat. Even Michael Jackson never accomplished that. Purple Rain was an "Event" in my country.

David Bowie, David Lee Roth, all the metal bands and so forth. It was the look of the times. Not that im judging being gay, he just wasn't. He was deeply in love many times and there's never been one man who claims to have slept with him

Prince wrote this song at 18-19 years old, it was a demo. He wrote "I feel for you" and "I wanna be your lover" for a female artist Patrice Rushen. She turned them both down. Rushen did go on to have a hit of her own "forget me nots." This is why those two songs sound like they could be sung by women. I feel for you was covered by multiple female artist a few years after Prince did the songs himself in 1978-79. Rushen missed out. R&b still had a bluesy feel to it at the time. The young Prince set the tone for the future of R&B and was a major influence in pop music.

That's funny because I remember watching this as a youngster (7) when it first came out in1979. He really left an impression on me his look his singing and the way he carried himself. He pretty much slipped out of the picture for me until I saw him one night with the "Little Red Corvette" video. I was like oh I remember that guy. Three albums later I rediscovered him having no idea he was still around....no surprise though "Dirty Mind" and "Controversy" were not kid friendly

Prince didn't die. He started talking about the establishment and music industry in a way they didn't like. He got 'uncontrollable' so they tried to get rid of him. He was saved and hidden away. He will come out, with many others that did the same thing (like Michael Jackson), in the not too distant future, that is, if he wants to be back in the limelight again.

In my opinion is this the most underrated Prince album. He was 20 years old there and made this amazing songs without any help. The late Prince was a powerhouse of Music! He played 27 instruments, wrote all his own and many protoges lyrics, Acted, Directed, Produced, and recorded with everyone from Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Stevie Wonder and Parlament Funkadelic and many others. He was like The Beatles all rolled into one. RIP HIS ROYAL BADNESS.

.. Prince was a teenager when his first couple of albums were composed, produced, arranged and preformed alone.. I know that the thumbs down people didnt/couldnt make a single hit. ANY REAL musician would respect that Prince did all the work and mastered countless instruments. More than likely they have only dabbled in one instrument or they would know that being a multi instrumentalist isnt easy. I cant really understand any other reason for a thumbs down. He is the most PROLIFIC writer in history.. Prince broke the genre lines and is a genre of his own. That should be praised by any real musician.

I was in 7th grade in 1979 and I called up the local radio station and asked them to play & dedicate Prince's "I Wanna Be Your Lover" to my new girlfriend - and they did! This was the track that made me get into Prince - the next year, I bought 1980's Dirty Mind, loved it, and on & on... RIP funky genius

I remeber when this album came out. It hit my local record store in 1979- I was in junior-high school. The year 1979 had the BEST disco/dance music around. This was the song that got me into disco. Everyone evolved from there, including Prince. He was amazing!

Prince was arguably the most talented artist of the 20th and 21st centuries, he had it all the looks, attitude, the swag, could sing, dance, play guitar, bass, drums, piano, wrote a bunch of hits, broke down racial and sexual barriers. He left way too young, RIP Purple Prince.
