If there's anything I've done right in 40 years is play guitar. I agree with you KNOWING Prince had the feeling and spirit of Jimi, absolutely undeniably no doubt about it. No 2 guitar players have the same mind, it's not happening. Better than Jimi? That is not even a debate because both were so good. Those comments were what kept guitar magazines alive when there were magazines my brother. Not even Prince's guitarist in this era Dez Dickerson was as good as prince. BTW poor Dez has been overshadowed over the decades by Wendy who wasn't that good, just average and she was just there at the height of Prince's popularity. Shit Dez was average too but he was there before Wendy and doesn't deserve to be forgotten. Anyway we could put away a lot of beer talking about this subject. Don't mind harcore Jimi fans. I prefer Jimi but I KNOW Prince had that spirit and feel. Much love brother.

In the 20th century I would agree. Nobody could match his skill set. He was so versatile in every aspect of music: songwriting, multiple instrumentalist, ridiculous vocal range, amazing live performer & brilliant dancer. Have no idea how the good Lord was able to squeeze all that talent in his little 5'3 frame but he sure did. :)
@venanciahopkins5035
@venanciahopkins5035 7 жыл бұрын
In the 21st century he is still the greatest, I don't think we are going to have anyone close to matching his kind of talent for years to come. The only two musicians that came close to Prince's talent and both were before Prince are Stevie Wonder and David Bowie. Both being musicians, singers, performers, songwriters, producers and arrangers. Prince in my very humble opinion is the greatest musician, Prince could play numerous instruments and was a virtuoso player. Meaning any instrument he played Prince practically mastered on the instrument. Brilliant guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, drummer you name it. Majority of his albums he played all the instrument, except for the exception of Purple Rain. He was a brilliant singer, songwriter, producer and arranger. The most incredible performer to ever hit the stage. I don't think we are going to have anyone in his league for a long time to come.

I just read somewhere (I think it was in the Paisley Park 'Guitar and Bass' book) that Andre and Prince stopped by a thrift store around 1978 and Andre spotted the used, one-of-a-kind, beautiful bass guitar that you see him playing in this video. Andre said he'd never seen anything like it and wanted it so much, but didn't have enough money so he asked Prince to buy it for him, and he obliged.. This bass guitar would a few years later serve as the inspiration for the design of Prince's custom, iconic, white 'cloud' guitar, featured in the Purple Rain movie. It's hard to see in this video but it looks basically just like the white cloud, but a beautiful stained wood color.

The first instrument I wanted to learn to play was an old upright piano. My mother wouldn't allow it. It was located in a 1 room church building her grandma had for them to have church in. 1 of her sisters married a man that could play piano like Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis. He was a walking preacher man. Then later on in life. A X friend of mine let me keep his Electric Guitar. It was a Fender. My mother took that from me as well. Wouldn't let me even try to play it. Then I had a stroke at age 42. I needed something to work the Muscles in my left hand. My brother sent to me a right hand Fender Squire. I'm left handed. I learned to play a right hand guitar. Right handed. Played it for 10 yrs. Almost couldn't get enough of it. But 1 day I had to leave it alone and move away from the town I had a stroke in. Playing a guitar isn't hard. All you need is a free mind. Or maybe a reason to want to be on it. 24/7. My left hand cramped up terribly. And making notes on the guitar took those cramps out of my left hand. I can't imagine what kind of mind Prince had. He stuck a needle in his arm and died. Real: When Doves Cry/ Coo. The male sounds like a howler Monkey. I lived later on in a upstairs house. 2 doves shared a limb in a tree. I would sit in the window upstairs and smoke Cigarellos. Those 2 birds sat on that same limb for 3 yrs. After 3 yrs. I had to leave that location. Whichever 1 collect the nesting material and the other put the nest together. And it be the flimsyest nest in the tree.
