How the ‘War of the Wales’ shaped the life of Prince William
Nearly thirty years after his parents exchanged their wedding vows, Prince William walked down the aisle at Westminster Abbey with his new bride. 'My Mother Diana' looks at how Diana’s life, her relationship with the House of Windsor, the media and the public have shaped her eldest son, Prince William. When a twenty year-old Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, their wedding at St Paul’s was watched by billions; it was the last great royal wedding to galvanise the British public. But that relationship would develop into a romantic tragedy, whose effects would be more profound than anyone could have imagined. In his marriage to Kate Middleton, Prince William is entering into a new and independent stage of his life…a life in which his mothers influence and presence appear centre-stage and ever-present.. It is easy to forget that William’s formative years were not the idyll with the ’Princess of People’s Hearts’…rather they took place in the midst of a vicious divorce battle. William’s loyalties divided and fought over during the War of the Wales.
‘My Mother Diana’ is the story of Charles and Diana's marriage from a new and revealing point of view. It’s the story of how their marriage shaped William. It explores the effect of his mother’s relationships, the tell-all book she collaborated on with Andrew Morton, the effects of her Panorama interview and William's reaction to his father’s relationship with Camilla. On the surface William appears to be a product of the old order, groomed by the House of Windsor. But William is the son of Diana - who transcended celebrity and transformed the monarchy. This film seeks to understand William by exploring his relationship with his mother and examines where William was as key moments of her later life played out; because what she went through made him who he is today Why did William propose using his mother’s engagement ring? And what does it tell us about this future King and the legacy of his mother Diana? Fourteen years after her death Diana’s influence appears undiminished. But will William be the King Diana wished him to be?

Red Rock - It was God's plan - Diana's fate she herself knew. She knew, and said so that she'd never be Queen. If you look closely and discerningly, Diana's mission was to reveal the pedophilia of the Royal Family. Imagine her thoughts when she came face to face with the evilness of the Royal Family. Diana's genuine, outpouring of love and compassion for these innocent children, often indigenous children, was in opposition to behind doors at Buckingham Palace. Think about it. "They" despised her, they knew what she was doing and she had to be stopped.

As a child, I watched her get married. As a teenager, I watched her struggle to free herself from that toxic marriage. As a young mother with a newborn, I watched her funeral with tears streaming down my face. It will be twenty years, this summer, since she has passed and I still find myself fascinated with her life....and her death.

Liz Tukenmez She was but one year younger than I am,and her marriage and birth of William paralleled my own.I kind of knew how she felt at that phase of her life, and all the experiences that came with just living life as a new mother and wife in an internal and personal way...all things considered ip until her death, she maintained her public dignity and behaved as a woman of class and decorum.Simply because she had those qualities.

Me also - I always remember that the nite she died was the nite before my son's 1st birthday. We didn't have proper TV @ that point as we lived in the country. Only a wonky satellite dish and so watched odd repeating feeds of journalists reports - most incomplete and not public ready. It was an odd dish & would go on & off randomly and cut in & out of every channel imaginable.....One of those truly better then nothing deals. Because of this; I didint properly learn the full story until the next day when I saw it in the papers. But yes - one of those things you don't forget. And always something I recall along with my (now 20 year old) son's childhood.

That is CHILD ABUSE pure and simple. William tried to get her to STOP HATING his father, but she refused. She also HATED his grandparents and she HATED his Aunt Anne. And she HATED his (Charles') nanny, whose name was Tiggy. When William would try to STOP her hating them, she would DOUBLE DOWN and SCREAM how much she hated them and how terrible they were. Diana HATED the Spencers and HATED her mother and HATED the Royals and HATED EVERYONE! When Diana died, at age 36, she had ZERO FRIENDS. Nobody who knew her could stand her. She was VILE and SICK and not a decent person. She had TERRIBLE judgment and her hatred for the world was TOXIC! She hid behind her "giggling." The more she giggled the MORE she was going to EXPLODE when she got away from her "audience" that she lived for. She thought she LOVED people she did not know but she wasn't even CIVIL to ANY of her family members. HOW CAN SHE HATE EVERYONE????

@Jim Halfpenny After her divorce from Prince Charles, Princess Diana remained the mother to the future king. As befits that high status, the Queen offered her Scotland Yard protection for life - a driver and bodyguards. This is the best, most highly trained security in the world. But Princess Diana refused the Queen's kind and wise offer, stuck two fingers up at her and instead allowed a slimy Arab to provide her with a drunk driver, as she ran around Paris with his coke-addicted son. Diana compounded her serious error of judgement by failing to fasten her seatbelt - and the rest is history. If you lay down with dogs you get fleas - and Diana paid the ultimate price for her choice of bedfellow. But sadly, so did her sons. It was thoroughly irresponsible and selfish of Diana to have got herself killed like that because she wanted to behave like a silly teenager, rather than the thirty-something mother of a future king. It was good to read your comment, I am sick of all the deluded Diana worshippers who think she was Mother Theresa in lipstick and heels!

Actually, it isnt just about adultery committed by Prince Charles but also, it's about his insecurities. He felt jealous of Diana bcoz she received more attention and love from his people than him.. Camilla also felt the same way, that's why Charles resented Diana even more. He even called Diana selfish (just because of the attention she received from everybody), when it's him who's being selfish.

We were never ever told the truth, and if you think we were, then you are a mind controlled, gullible one. If you were to know what Diana came to know when she entered through the doors of Buckingham Palace, (well who knows if mind controlled individuals like yourself can see, even if right before your eyes,) you might change your sentiment. Look at Andrew today, disgraced because of his connections with Epstein - by the Queen et al - not for what he did..... but that he was careless. @@penelopegialeli1530 I dearly wish you would ask questions, and then search for answers. When one side lies with impunity, and and the other side cannot defend itself, the public rhetoric will be false! And unfair. Can you imagine what William goes through? He has to deal with the wicked lies put forward by Diana and her supporters every day. Yet, he is forced to "suck it up" because that is the "royal" way. What that young man has gone through, breaks my heart. He LOVES Charles with all his heart; he loves the Queen and Prince Philip (as the ONLY grandparents he has; Diana had zero relatives to offer him; she was NOT a "blood" Spencer, and the Spencers could not stand Diana; she was a constant reminder of their mother's cheating and breaking up their home (the Spencer children adored their father and blamed Frances for breaking up their happy home (and for having Diana). Diana was a symbol of her mother's cheating, plus she did NOT look like the Spencers; she looked like her mother's lover). William also loves Princess Anne (the aunt who welcomed him into her family and made sure that he was included. When she took Peter and Zara to "Thorpe Park" she would include William. And, William loves Tiggy (Charles' nanny who was also a family friend of the BRF). William lived with Charles MORE than with Diana (she was a miserable person to live with; he had to be prodded to spend time with her at Kensington Palace the last couple of years). She had a toxic tongue, and said HORRID things about the people he loved. When William tried to get her to stop, she would double down and SCREAM the invectives. He was "sick" at the drama that accompanied Diana, every day of her life. And, he was SICK at how she treated his father, his grandparents, and the people he loved. Charles taught him to fish, hunt, ride, and play polo. He let the boys ride their scramblers, play ball, and tromp in the woods with his dogs. He let them run, and jump, and be noisy, and get dirty, and be boys! All without the cameras around. Diana taught them to pose for pictures and to lie to he paparazzi (to make her look good). William hated the lying; Harry thought that lying and fooling people was fun. There was NOTHING to do at Kensington Palace and the boys had to be prodded to visit Diana the last couple of years. She was a nasty nag who grilled them for information. She also FORCED William to meet, shake hands, and make small talk with her EIGHT long time lovers (while she was still married to Charles. HOW many teenage boys want to meet their mother's lovers, while she is STILL married to his father??? By comparison, Charles NEVER had women (other than employees) at his homes while he was caring for the boys (which was MORE than Diana spent time with them). William spent time with the Queen EVERY Sunday afternoon. With her schedule, she always took time for William; no wonder he loved her. AND, every Sunday evening, Prince Philip and William had "one on one" time in Windsor Great Park (before William returned to Eton, just over the bridge. [ I know how special "grandfather" time is; having that on regular basis is golden. ] Diana had a miserable childhood (because of her horrid mother and her nasty Spencer step-father and half siblings. She was very lonely and had a dim mind and could not cope. She became a fantasist and needed heavy therapy, but she hid it all behind her silly (giggling). The more she giggled, the more she would need to EXPLODE when she got away from the cameras. NO, she did NOT have a "good heart." NO, she did not "care for others." She was greedy and grasping, and jealous, and had a HUGE NEED to be "liked." I do not know a thing about mental illness, but I know a desperate person when I see one. She NEEDED to be "loved" but had NO CAPACITY to return that emotion. She thought that IF she was a good enough actress, and if she could get the world to love her, that real people would love her too. But, she was SO DAMAGED that she made personal relationships impossible Her mother and the Spencers rejected her, so she rejected everyone else. Remember, her only grandmother (Ruth, Lady Fermoy) testified in court IN FAVOR of her son-in-law (Johnny Spencer) and AGAINST her daughter (Frances Roche and also against Diana by default). Lady Fermoy did NOT think Diana should marry into the BRF. (Ruth was also BEST FRIENDS, and senior lady-in-waiting, to the Queen Mum, from 1955 until Lady Fermoy died in 1992.) NOTE: Al the people who KNEW Diana could not stand her. Diana was ONLY a "saint" to those who did not know her. Diana was a chronic liar (she lied since she was a child, to get out of trouble, and no one ever told her to stop lying). She lied like other breathe. Charles was accomplished and a truth-teller. No wonder Diana resented him. He was so much BETTER than she was, as a human being. And, she HATED his entire family. (1) WHY did Diana HATE everyone? (2) WHY did she not have a single friend when she died? (3) WHY had she not spoken to her mother, or the Spencers, or any members of the BRF, for OVER A YEAR before she died? (4) The ONLY people that Diana spoke to were her staff and they HAD to listen to her. (5) Charles DID NOT CHEAT on Diana. He was true to her and being a husband and father, UNTIL Diana had a child with another man; (and had a stable of "lovers") that was the end, and two years, later, he went back to Camilla. Diana had Harry and then expected Charles to raise him (she was too nervous to deal with two rambunctious boys. (6) HOW many women have EIGHT full time lovers while married to a man who was very good to her? She complained about there being 3 in the marriage (years after Harry was born and years after Charles went back to Camilla, but Diana NEVR admitted that she brought EIGHT lovers to the marriage. Diana lied and was in total denial. Charles has been blamed for Diana's sins for decades. It makes me sick. He and Camilla are saints for what they have gone through. William knows the truth; ask William.

That's an overboard statement don't you think? There is a lot of every day people who are kind when no one is watching. The woman who reported how ‘kind’ and ‘caring’ Diana remained when the cameras did not follow her to the room with the mothers and children were. But I say still there were others in there watching. Diana was not stupid, she knew showing any less sentiment to the patients would have given her bad press, but I still see she had a manipulative side using the paparazzi to gain favor and popularity from the masses. All completely self-serving. Anyone can put up on a humble front. No one should be worshiping her or any human like they do, and people who do are so naive.

Diana didn't bring love into the Royal Family. She brought conflict and drama! Like she did in almost all of her relationships including her own family and friends even her staff! The Royal Family were very welcoming and supportive to Diana when she was dating Charles and early in the marriage. But one by one she alienated all of them. It was her pattern. Have you ever wondered why Sophie and Sarah the Queen's other 2 daughters in law had very good relationships with the Queen? Even after her divorce Sarah maintained a strong and close friendship with the Queen up until she died! The Queen even left her beloved corgies to Fergie to look after. The problem was Diana herself.

This is so sad, my grandad was her bodyguard when she visited Pakistan and Diana was my mom's icon so she was asking her dad (my grandad) that she wants to meet her at any cost, but obviously, that was not possible, instead, she saw her from a distance. But my grandad especially asked her to take a picture with him for his daughter (my mom). she took 2 photos and after some hours she came to my grandad's office where my mom was sitting and waiting for my grandad to finish his duty and my mom said she was actually scared when she saw Diana and ran up to my grandad while looking at her. she picked up my mom's toy and kneeled down and asked my mom ''who did your hair'' coz my mom had the exact same hairstyle. my mom always tear up when she sees her pictures or anything related to Princess Diana.

She loved Charles from the beginning. Her behavior wasn't abnormal just the typical behavior of a woman who loves a man who cheats on her. She was obviously deeply hurt and wanted the world to see what he had put her through. Camilla doesn't deserve the luxury she now enjoys. Even after all the hurt when ask would she take him back she says...YES. A fairytale but a very very sad one.

Charles did NOT cheat on Diana! THINK!!!! Diana was a chronic liar all of her life. Charles was a chronic truth-teller all of his life. Charles broke up with Camila and devoted himself to Diana, but SHE was the one who could not be satisfied with an accomplished, future King of England. (She was a fantasist, most probably scarred by her mother's abandoning her at the age of 6 and of the Spencer's rejecting her, while she did not have the "native intelligence" to cope. Fantasists can NEVER be happy without intensive therapy (that she never had). Diana LIED and pretended that Charles had cheated on her, as an excuse for her having an affair that resulted in her having a funny looking red headed BABY with JAMES HEWITT! Diana was ANGRY that Charles had had other women and that he had ever loved Camilla. She did not think it was "fair" that she was a virgin and her 33 year old husband was NOT! Incidentally, she had Charles to herself and had a baby with him, but still could not "love him enough" to be true to him. Diana was FILLED with a need for revenge on the world (probably as a result of her horrible childhood). If she could not "beat" Camilla (after having a child with Charles) then that is on her. HE DID NOT CHEAT until AFTER Harry was blood tested and there was proof that he was HEWITT's kid and not Charles'' kid. He admits going back to Camilla in 1986. Harry was born in 1984. Diana was NUTS and most people couldn't stand her. Why should Charles have to bend to her insane demands (such as ignoring her bulimia)?

i like how the royals try to paint Dianna in such a negative manner when she tried and TRIED, relentlessly to get Camila and Charles to stop. talking and handling things internally first but to no avail. when she felt unheard, THAT’S when she went to the media. the class, the poise, the heart. just a few of the reasons she was an icon in her time and one we will continue remember forever.

Here in the US, we got the news really early in the morning that she was in an accident. I didn’t even know she had died until I woke up a few hours later. It was just awful and I felt so gutted. Even though I was only 16 years old, I was a massive fan of hers and still am to this day.

In Australia it was the afternoon and my parents came into my room and told me about the accident and that Dodi had died and Diana was injured and I thought about how sad that was and how devastated Diana would be. It would have been so sad but still better than what happened. Then my parents came in again into my room a bit later on and my Mum told me that Diana had died. For people such as yourself and most other people in the world you would have heard that she had died straight away without the news kind of being staggered a bit. I guess that would have been a bigger shock. Aside from being sad I also knew that this was huge news and that most of the world was still asleep and that 99% of the people in England would have still been asleep with no idea about what had happened and that they were going to be so shocked when they woke up and heard the news.

PURE? PEDIGREE? HEIRS? Boy, are you easy to fool. She was NOT a Spencer; she was the illegitimate daughter of Frances Roche and Sir James Goldsmith. Her mother was still married to Viscount Althorp , so she was a "legal" Spencer, but NOT BY BLOOD! She had ONE child by Charles; just William. (But, he is enough.) Harry (did you ever wonder why Diana named him Henry?) is the son of James Hewitt. You have to fantasize SO MUCH to make Diana something special. She was SO STUPID she couldn't qualify for a single college. She was mean, and she screamed, and nagged, and the boys has to forced to spend time with her. They preferred to be with Charles. Diana forced them to meet her lovers and shake hands. WHAT TEENAGE BOY WANTS TO MEET HIS MOTHERS LOVERS . . . . WHEN SHE IS STILL MARRIED TO THEIR DAD???

Rubbish Harry has separated his children from his family. They will lose their birthright due to parents behaviour. The daughter will learn that her dad lied about her name and that it caused such controversy. Both children face years of their parentage being questioned due to parents stupid idea of what privacy means and that they are being hidden away from society. One day they are going to learn what their parents did to the royal family and all the mistakes they are currently making. Catherine snd William are bringing up their children as normally as they can. Plenty of times with parents in the country with access to extended family especially cousins. They are gradually being exposed to the general public as one day they will be the senior royals.

Im sure everyone watching engagement interview when Charles said, whatever being in love means, understood he wasn't in love with her (said maybe to reassure Camilla) and if you look at Diana's face after he said that, she was absolutely confused and shattered. So,of course she desperately throughout the initial years of the marriage sought Charles's reassurance of his love and support. It wasn't there, he didn't love her and never had, and couldn't pretend he did! She couldn't believe that he had coldly married her to produce heirs. She deserved better. She wanted the dream but instead married a callous manipulator, who lived in a previous century and thought as long as he did his duty and produce heirs, then he could resume his affair and she just had to get on with it. He saw it as okay!!! No understanding of today's women or life. He's of another century!

The way the royal family treated Diana has always astounded me. They wanted the marriage to rehabilitate their image and to "breathe new life into the monarchy". When Diana succeeded in doing that well beyond anyone's expectations, they resented her. Especially Charles. What a weak, spoiled creature he was and is. In the end, Diana beat them at their own game. And it cost her life. Such a tragic story. And now, Camilla will get what she wanted all along. Still irks me years later.

You can tell by her face, she was not pleased with Charles's answer , what ever in love means. Little did she know that Charles was not really in love with her, with Camilla on his mind. Poor Diana, thinking that he might forget Camilla. Charles resented Diana's popularity as it took the shine of him. Instead of being proud of her he was jealous of her. Totally missmatched they were. The only good that came out of that, is that Diana and her children changed the stuffy monarchy. Rest in peace beautiful Diana.

Harry looks like Di's bodyguard. Both cheated but Charles has always loved Camilla, the grandmothers are to blame for pushing these people together when neither wanted it.

I get so emotional everytime someone mentions her death. May her kind beautiful soul rest in peace. In a world full of kardashians we need more Dianas.

Zamara 64, "...she always had that look on her face. Very tiring to look at". Are you KIDDING ME?! That interview is the first glimpse into how Charles viewed Diana. ( As a royal obligation the Queen placed upon him). The "look" Diana displays in this moment is one of utter heartbreak, embarrassment and humiliation! If YOUR fiancé answered the VIDEOTAPED and TELEVISED interview question as Charles did, how would you "look"?!

I feel empathy for both sides. Charles was forced into a marriage with Diana. He was in love with Camilla. They were forbidden from the beginning because she was seen as promiscuous. Diana was the perfect fit for a princess of the royal family. They never had anything in common, Charles never loved her. Of course everyone’s extremely saddened for Diana. She was consumed by this toxic monarchy at such a young, impressionable age. RIP Beautiful :(

He knew he was a royal. And he knew he would never escaped a political marriage. If he is real man, he would not have treated a woman who wals also force to enter the royal family. They took Diana's freedom and innocence. He took her love/feelings for granted. He took her for granted.
