She’s a kind girl who deserved so much better, it reflects how painful kindness is in our reality and how troubled characters or beings don’t always get back what they give.

I will die on the hill that Ahiru is one of the best anime protagonists ever. She’s so endlessly kind and is practically without flaw, because her heart is truly just that GOOD. Princess Tutu will always and forever be my favorite anime :D thank you for making this video!

Animax introduced this anime to me. I didn't really like the first part because I thought it was similar to Swan Lake. Then the Second Act started and I was glued in. Probably the best Shoujo Anime ever.

I didn't realize how similar this story could be to Zen Buddhist teachings! About breaking a cycle (reincarnation) and how eternity and permanence is actually not beautiful, but rather it is impermanence that is beautiful. The fact that nothing lasts forever and every story must end. Also teaching the virtue of learning to accept what is simply out of our control (such as turning back into a duck). We cannot always have what we want in life, but with "HOPE" as mentioned in the show, we can believe in endless wonders and find happiness even in the saddest seeming situations.

The thing that fullfilled this video was your deep dive potential. Its not just a summary. viewers can see that you understand the story throughly and you gave it to us creatively. Pls never loose that ability in ur future videos. You could start making specific analysis on characters or concepts. I recommend Monster. Thank you ♥️ for this video

The whole "hope" thing doesn't make sense because the whole "author is controlling the events to create despair" doesn't make any sense to begin with. Either a) the author has total control over the story in which case he can write the characters however he wants to such that they can't deviate from his plan and he would never allow the Fakir to discover his own writing powers because Fakir himself is a character, in which case it is literally impossible for there to be hope. Along the same lines, the Edel example wouldn't work, because when characters are not needed for the story, they are simply not written in the scenes, so there is no room for a character to autonomously develop in scenes where they're not scheduled to appear. or b)the author only sets up the premise and lets things play out and/or has partial control, in which case the characters had total autonomy to begin with, such that the story had hope to begin with. In this case the story plays out like ANY OTHER STORY in which characters overcome obstacles and the whole meta narrative is a GIMMICK. Because then Drosselmeyer functions no differently than an incredibly powerful, possibly omnipotent big bad within the story itself. But the story and people analyzing it are acting like it's so incredible that the characters seemingly overcame the writing of the story itself, when no, there's no such thing as characters overcoming the writing. Secondly, the whole "defying roles" theme doesn't work when the story doesn't bother to set up strong motivations for the characters to begin with in their initial roles. Characters in fairy tales, or stories in general, behave a certain way not because it's simply their role but because they're written with sufficient motivation to act the way they do. So if you have characters behave a certain way arbitrarily and then have them supposedly defy those roles, there is NO significance in their defiance, because it's a defiance of something that was never naturally rooted in the character in the first place. For example, we're supposed to believe that this random duck saw a boy she doesn't even know and makes it her purpose in life to save him out of her natural altruism? And why exactly does Fakir believe himself to be a knight? What makes him so loyal to the prince? Meanwhile, the prince himself is used as a literal plot device for brainwashing TWICE. If you actually give powerful in-story motivations for characters to do what they do, and then have them grow beyond those motivations, THEN that would be powerful message about transcending roles, like what they did with Megamind. But even then, Ahiru and Fakir continue doing the SAME thing after they supposedly transcended their roles, by STILL making it their life's goal to protect the prince, allegedly because they themselves want to and not because the story wants to, even though they don't develop their relationship with the prince any more than before. And what does the story wanting them to do it even mean? is it like a voice of God telling them their role? Does the author brainwash them? it's all too muddy to be thematically significant, rendering all analysis moot. Even if you look at Rue's arc, her doing a 180 from being an abusive girlfriend to actually loving the prince at the end of the story is literally her character doing whatever the actual writers of the story want her to do. Because if the writers had actual respect for what Rue would actually do, common sense dictates that it takes a long arc for her to redeem herself and years of gaslighting are not going to be fixed in an instant. So, no, the characters don't take on a life of their own that is different than what the author intended, which undermines the show's point. In fact, it's downright hypocrisy for this show to be talking about letting the characters flow naturally when it uses brainwashing and amnesia. The meta-narrative not only breaks the story itself, making it meaningless, but it's also unnecessary, because as Enchanted demonstrates, it is very possible to show a character developing outside of her intended route by just telling a normal story.

@@Hakaru I need adequate reasoning to not like the show, and I provided it. Perhaps you should just say you don't have a response to valid arguments. I can just as easily say you spent 15 minutes overanalyzing a show that had no such depth.

@@Hakaru I think he's just wondering how Fakir is even able to take control of the story under Drosselmeyer's watch. Why would Drosselmeyer even include a character like that in his story? Ik he's a descendent but that seems like a huge blunder. Great video though, I haven't watched Tutu in a decade!
