I own this model, but the 2015/16 version. Some of the things I up graded (electronic thermostat) this one has so they are improving. CulleyT pointed out some of the problems, same that I found but I don't seem to have humidity issues but then I mainly spend most of my time boondocking in the Rocky Mountains and Utah deserts. I spend 4-5 months full timing each summer and fall. I have taken this rig on the Mormon Trail through sand, slick rock and over rock passes. I have taken it up mining roads to over 12,600 ft into some places that I probably shouldn't have gone. I have had zero issues with this rig and have twisted and bumped it very hard at times. I carry this on my SRW Ford F350 with no problem. The only thing I added for suspension is torklift stable loads and it handles great at 75 mph on the highway or in 4 low crawling over ruts and small boulders. I run two 6 volt T-105's and the solar panel keeps them charged. On those few days where the weather was bad I have a small honda 2000 and three hrs on that recharges them. Great camper for boondocking or in a campground I can't say enough good about how well built it is. Oh...last thing, if you do have a problem you can call the company direct and they will actually answer the phone and put you on the line with the guy who built it...super nice people and a good company.

That sleeping loft area looks super-cozy and comfortable. Imagine curling up there with a cup of tea (or a Scotch) and a good book at the end of the day. Looks like this RV has really good head room, especially for a truck camper.

I'm still just window shopping, and have already been interested in the Northern Lite products, but having seen more than a few walk throughs... Mrs. PJ You and the crew have done an excellent presentation! Reckon I'll be dismissing the competitors and focusing upon Northern Lite. I apprecitate the the way You speak, like hearing a trusted neighbor speak of something they have been glad to have invested in. Mrs. PJ, with all due respect, You appear to be an elegant and well centered lady. Were I a betting man I'd be betting You know, trust and love the Savior, Jesus Christ. Bless You.

Able to use it but still working some bugs out, not Northern Lites fault, genny won't start, struts for awning need replaced, the jacks all need r&r, so I have some work cut out for me. Still built like yachts inside.

I think you are paying for quality and a higher resale value.....having said that, I think the manufacturers are charging an excess for "cachet".....I'd like to see another manufacturer copy the standards, and the design, but cut costs where they could without affecting quality. Like formica or wood veneer drawer fronts over beechwood plywood instead of real wood(no mdf!).....might be a little weight saving there too.....As a single person....I dont need a queen bed either....a twin would suit me just fine......:)

F 350 dualy - 40 to 70k and the host Everest - 50 to 60k with large 200 watt solar x 2 and you're set. Also for crying out laud get an atmospheric water maker...it not only pulls moisture out of the air, but makes 1 to 3 gallons of water per day. Its filtered and there is your coffee water, what ever you don't use pour it back into the water tank and this works on any camper, some even come with their own solar unit. Also lithium ion batteries, when the AGM need to be replaced...get lithium ion. Also whatever you choose make sure its 4 season otherwise you will regret it. Another great gadget is a wireless weather station you can hang on the wall so you know what is really going on outside. 4 wheel drive is great also if you want to be off the beaten path. So many tips and tricks, but its not cheap to set this up. I also put a heat strip in the AC unit and have a Honda 2000 generator that runs it all. Propane should be used for cooking and heating water and it will last a long time. Now they have instant hot water. Diesel rigs are much better then gas and last much longer.

I love the layout and the amount of storage and prepping area in this unit. Also, as always, the pesentation was flawless and very entertaining. The only ‘but’ would be the look of the camper over all. It looks so dated, the carpet on the floors, the color of the wood and the dinette area… not my cup of tea. I’m a big fan of NuCamp campers and I really thing this one looks much more spacious and functional.

Apparently they didn't like my truthful review and deleted this comment. Fortunately I wrote it in notes and still have it. Shame on you for censoring me when I bought one of these! Here is the original review: I'm laying in my 10-2 EXCDSE now. I've had it since September 2018 and have spent a LOT of time here. Infact I am now living in it full time. In that time I have had the heater replaced twice. The propane lines worked on. A leak under the sink. The fridge currently turns itself off 10 times a day when on Propane. One of my cabinets has come apart and I need to get it fixed. You MUST have a generator because the solar panel is a joke. The two 100amp hour AGM batteries won't even power the heater all night. Every day I have to run the generator for 4 hours. I don't even use any plugs/low voltage. I have a Yeti Goal Zero 1000 watt inverter that I plug stuff into. The insulation is nothing impressive. I live in Los Gatos, CA and the heater has to run at least 4 times per night to keep it at 65-70 right now. When I am plugged in and can run a small space heater, the cabin stays pretty warm. However that space heater definitely runs 4+ times a night. Can't imagine what snow would be like. The main heater is near the door and doesn't cool the sleep area well. My buddy said to just get thicker blankets, etc. But I have a Pitbull and he gets cold too. I absolutely LOVE the higher ceiling. It makes a big difference in the bed area. I am 6'3" and have no problem in the bed, shower, etc. Airflow has been an issue. I have had mold issues in both of my wardrobes. I have purchased a dehumidifier and DampRid in both wardrobes. As another comment described, this is a must. The black out Windows are awesome. However the window to the cab doesn't have the same black outs? Just curtains. You can see light through them. So the blackout is ruined. The bathroom counter top collects water when level. So you have to push it around or towel it up. Or have your camper out of level. Door is great but I never close it so I velcroed it open. I have a wet bath and wish I had got the dry bath. Pantry is great. This camper has a lot of storage. Gas props on cabinets work great. Cabinets are quality. Although I do miss my access to the truck bed. The windows suck! Acrylic? It scratches so easily. I am afraid to do any real camping where I have to push through trees. And if you leave the shade open, you do lose a lot of heat. I never have all the shades open at night. My window gas props don't work properly and only stay open at maximum height. Stove/Oven is great. You have to light the oven manually. The led lights are nice, but quite bright no matter what. I rarely use the stereo. The Bluetooth was a pain in the ass to pair. If you want to run the television through the stereo and have a surround sound, then n you must buy a double ended jack and run it to the front of the speaker, thus having another wire exposed and looking unsightly. Unusually hard. One of the three zones didn't work from the beginning. So I use a JBL portable speaker. The dinette is nice. I have the face to face, not U shape. The table adjuster seems awesome. But the pin does not stay locked during transit. It's always going up and down as you drive. It isn't very strong. If you fall in the table or some kid sits on it, it will break. I have to constantly remind my girlfriend not to put too much weight on the table. The table slides left and right and the stopper doesn't stop well. Even in California, I have had issues w the propane tanks getting cold. I have the same Generator and it's loud! You can hear it 40ft away. It was installed poorly by the dealer and tends to rattle. The propane slide out is a pain in the ass! On the truck, accessing the one in the rear requires a tall person. The mount in the middle just gets in the way and replacing it is a pain too. I saw a 2017 w side mount tanks on a slide and it looked easier. The slide and all galvanized items have started to corrode. The two bottles will last you about a week boondocking. I replaced the stair upto the bed w a solid wood tread. Putting carpet there was stupid. It got dirty so fast. The bed that comes w the camper is very nice. Making the bed is a pain in the ass. The air gap under the bed is decent, but I still get a little mold at the head of the bed where it touches the walls. So I take it out and air it out as often as possible. There is a fancy new system that acts like a box spring that I'm planning to purchase. That's another $200. The wardrobe in the bed area is weird. Because of the direction of the hangers, you have to remove everything to get to the back of it. I love the skylight, but it loses a lot of heat there. Gotta keep the shade closed at night. I tossed the carpet. Was just a dirt collector. Pulling a trailer w the deck? You have to get a special hitch. I got the Torklift Super Hitch $2000 and 48" Super Truss $600. I can tow upto 7000 lbs with it. The fast guns (tie downs) are another $600. Locks are $100. So over $3500 invested total in Hitch and Tie Downs (I installed myself. Very easy) The deck is white and beautiful, but scratches easily. Especially where the little removable step is. Why did they make the square tube in the patio too small for a sewer hose? Wth? Happy Jack's all work at different speed. So you have to keep adjusting them. Although it's absolutely amazing to have a remote control for the legs. It's very hard to get on the roof because of the awning. No handles up top. I'm in good shape. And have no issue climbing generally. Anyone old or overweight should avoid it. Not sure of how long 10lbs of propane will run the generator. But I already have 100hrs on it and I use everything daily. It lasts pretty well. I have a 2006 F250 Diesal Crew Cab w Air Bags that I pull it with, no problem. Always in Tow mode. 8-10mpg. I have a two inch lift and 35" MT tires on 20" wheels. So, is it worth the coin? I paid 41k last September 2018 for a 2019 model. Another 4k for generator. Although I have almost 50k in it so far and still need another 2k for batteries, 2k for solar, and whatever for an inverter. Not to mention installation costs. To me, no, the price isn't right. I have a 70k Lexus and it works perfectly all the time. This is like the most expensive camper (without slides) on the market. It isn't even Lexus quality. I do think the structure will last a long time. It's shell, cabinets, etc will last. I already have scratches on the acrylic windows from trees and I do mostly city/urban camping/living. My truck was 55k new and look at what I get for 55k. Today that would be 80k. Even a 55k truck today is amazing and has a lot of technology. The batteries that come are bullshit! They should be MUCH better for this price tag. At least 6 volt batteries. The heater should be better than the same one I had in my 18k 20ft Micro Minnie. As you learn more and more about what's available for these rigs, you start to feel aggravated that Northern Lite isn't ahead of the game with more efficient heaters, better fridges, and certainly better testing. If I keep this thing, which I probably will. I will replace the fridge cooling system, the heater, possibly a composting toilet, the shower head, add 500 watts of solar or more, lithium ion batteries and a damn charge controller that tells you how much power you're USING as well. You get a lot of looks. This camper looks fantastic. It looks expensive. And when city camping, You're not bothered unless some weirdo neighbors call. I had that happen already. The black outs really are black outs. You can't see any light except for a little in the door windows, which aren't the same tech and the cab window which is just tiny, shitty curtains. Advice for buyers: Expect some mechanical failures. Have a back up plan for heat. Like a propane Buddy Heater or an Olympian. Get money back for the batteries from the dealer and go buy your own immediately. I am planning to replace mine asap. Probably lithium ion 100amp hour ($1000ea) Have a generator. The auto start is great. But you could use two Honda 1000 and they would be more quiet. There should ABSOLUTELY be at least a 1000-3000 watt inverter in the camper to store additional power for the camper and it should be tied into the Chrage controller, batteries and generator. It's 2019! Happy hunting... This review has been a work in progress. So it's a little messy. Overall I am happy in this camper. I live in it full time. But I am disappointed that I paid 44k and need to invest another 10k to make it liveable. If I had the time and chance to do it again, I would spend 50k and build my own unit and would surely get more for my money.

So....you're living in a camper, something that is not designed to be lived in full time, and you are complaining about things that aren't designed for continuous use that are malfunctioning because you're using them continuously? Alrighty then!
@jamesrodriquez2863
@jamesrodriquez2863 5 жыл бұрын
@Topanga Reyna I don't care how much an RV costs, RV appliances, plumbing, etc. are not designed for continuous use. In other words, an RV fridge isn't designed to be used day in and day out for years and years like a house fridge. Neither is an RV furnace, RV A/C, RV toilet, or anything else in an RV. They aren't houses, mobile homes, or anything of the sort. They're designed to be temporary housing that is used occasionally. Why people think they can move into them permanently and not expect to have problems is beyond me.

@Topanga Reyna right. It hasn't even been one year. And I was not living in it full time until January. Plus it sat for two months while I was out of the country. So it's gotten about 5 months full time use.

One thing I didn't like right off the bat, was the drawers next to the refrigerator... somebody flubbed that one. They don't match the other cabinets! Off in color, grain direction, and design. And who thought that putting the microwave inside a cabinet was a good idea?? Better to combine it with the range hood. I know they can do better... the rest of the unit is excellent.
@gsibertjr
@gsibertjr 5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Darby, why build in a microwave when truck camping is about dry camping? Great thing about removable microwave in cabinet is, if you are going dry/ boondocking you can take microwave out and have more cabinet space. The cabinets and drawers in my 2019 NL 10-2 all match both in color and grain even the ones around the frig.

I think it would. It sits between the wheel wells anyway, but you are talking about a half ton truck, I believe, which is too lite for a serious truck camper like this one.

Many years ago I owned a Pick Up truck camper. Is there a way today to disengage the jacks so the unit can't be stolen while sitting in my yard when it is not being used?
@PrincessCraft
@PrincessCraft 4 жыл бұрын
It’s not usually done, but jacks are attached to the camper with 3 bolts and the electric wire can be unplugged. If the remote is not available, it’s a lot of trouble to steal a camper, but it can be done!

I would like to know how would you add a hitch for a boat or trailer to an o er head camper
@PrincessCraft
@PrincessCraft 5 жыл бұрын
The hitch receiver would still be attached to the frame of the truck, not the camper. Many owners opt to install a super hitch and a longer tow bar to give more distance between the truck and the trailer being towed. Hitch assemblies like this are easily installed, just like the original class 3 hitch receivers, typically bolt-on, attaching to the truck's frame.

It is a true 4 season camper. The manufacturer, Northern Lite, uses block foam insulation throughout the structure, and they double up that insulation under the cab-over portion of the camper.
