In episode #5 of the Princeton Spine & Joint Center Podcast, Dr. Grant Cooper spoke with his colleague Dr. Zinovy Meyler about cervical radiculopathy or a pinched nerve in the neck. They discussed how to think about it in terms of the different types of radiculopathies and radiculitis. What causes it and how it is diagnosed. How to treat it and how to prevent it. Dr. Cooper and Dr. Meyler discussed the biomechanics of why therapy is important and how they utilize it, the ergonomics of daily life and computer use, and some of the interventional aspects of getting better with injections and potentially surgery.
The podcast runs about an hour and twenty minutes so if this is a topic that you're interested in, you will get a lot of this deep dive into cervical radiculopathy.

I had 2 surgeries for thoracic outlet syndrome finally got second opinion it was regional cervical radiculopothy… So I said anyone with any of the symptoms to get a second opinion before they go getting surgery… I’ve lived with this for over 10 years

I hear you two spinal fusions to my thoracic and cervical spine. And now another herniations in my cervical spine the nerve pain is horrible. Shooting pain from my neck through my shoulder down my arm and into my hand. No one will help. It’s been 8 years of pain for me and I’m done

@@lasquared777 yes I’d love to find someone like that but our resources are very limited her in New Zealand. The other thing is that because my fusion has deteriorated and I now am So bent with kyphosis, a degree of 90, the time of my injury I was at 23 degrees. My chest cavity is so squashed now that my sternum/xiphoid process is not pushing forward and sticking out quite prominently now. I don’t think any treatment would help at the moment as I’m on such a rapid decline, whatever benefit that could come if it would be short lived I think. I’m very short of money also and can’t afford to do things like that. I really do appreciate you reaching out and offering advice I will right it down and research it and definitely is worth a look. I appreciate it thank you x

As a physician (MD and PhD) and pain researcher at a major university medical school and School of Public Health, this is perhaps the most useful discussion that I have seen or heard-both for my own condition, and I think for any thinking patient. This is truly superb.

I am looking forward to my MRI, this stuff is scary. I would consider myself as strong as a ufc fighter, but my exercise/ daily life is progressively too much for the pain pills. I dont know what that means for me, more rest rather than exercises that I used to do.

This has been very helpful. I am in the uk I had severe progressive degenerative disc disease cervical myelopathy. Due to covid 19 I was cancelled many times. The reason they found out was because it started with spasms in my arm. I have been having spasms and nerve sensations and now pain again after having C5/6 I had a silicone disc replaced. I have had awful sensations in my body and now I am seeing a neurologist. Also the surgeon told me he left some of the diseased disc in. I am so concerned about my nerves and spasms. I am 53 years old. Any advice would be fantastic. I also have tendinitis in my fingers also Carpal tunnel.

I went to orthopedic 1st visit said it's frozen shoulder. He did not inspect my neck that is in pain. My pain started on the elbow in may 2020. Then it spread out through my right shoulder, upper arm, back. I had pain in my hand wrist no carpal though. My upper shoulder right, pain in my back head. I receive electrification in different parts of my body like burning. But yet the orthopedic said the reason it's happening was because it's called frozen. How is that?

My MRI scan showed that I have a degenerate disc at C6/7 with apparent narrowing of the neural canal on the left and compromise of the left C7 root. The MRI showed no other problems with the discs. My issues are though that I have classic symptoms of Cervical Radiculopathy with right hand side brachialgia on the right hand side of my body. Would this be normal?

Can chronic lumbar spine problems cause and/or aggravate cervical spine that manifest with frequent numbing of upper extremities???
@jacobl5488
@jacobl5488 3 жыл бұрын
Think of it this way. If you have degenerative issues in the lumbar spine.. chances are you probably have degenerative issues in the cervical spine as well. But that is not to say the lumbar issues are CAUSING your upper extremity symptoms. Typically, cervical spine issues cause upper extremity symptoms.
@KiwikimNZ
@KiwikimNZ 2 жыл бұрын
You can sometimes have a change to the curve of your lumber spine called lordosis, the lordosis can go into a hyper lordosis so an over curvature of your lumber spine, it will then cause problems all the way up your spine due to the change in your gait and over balancing problems. Look into lordosis. It may be effecting your thoracic and cervical spine:) good luck

I have mild neck pain but lots of numbness on my neck, shoulders, and hands all greatly aggravated by bending my neck. 4 surgeons have recommended 2 level ADR and diagnosed radiculopathy and myelopathy because of also having hyperreflexia, mild balance issues, and positive Hoffmans. How is it possible I can have severe bilateral foraminal stenosis and cord compression at C5-C7 yet have only mild neck pain and no pain radiating down my arms? Does the numbness sound more like radiculopathy or myelopathy? How can you tell?

I had an MRI 3 years ago. I was diagnosed with foraminal stenosis and degenerative disc disease. Is it possible I should have another MRI to see if there's any advancement in it? Because I have had a lot of pain in my back and shoulders in my right arm. I have burning sensations especially at night when I'm lying down
