Pretty sure that's Vanina Walsh. 18 years old. She's a professional surfer, model, and owns her own a clothing line. Speaks several languages. I can't do any of that, but this morning I balanced a cheeto on my nose.

After 18 hours I finally took off solo and I was a freakin nervous wreck. Man, that's amazing, and I heard the stall warning go off at takeoff and another time during the flight when she was banking to the right. I little high on the approach but all-in-all, outstanding. People don't realize that it takes nerves of steel a bit over-sized cojones to go up the first time. This little girl is like nothing to it. It just blows my mind on the number of videos with young ladies in their teens soloing and flying like they've been doing it all their life.
@jhill4071

It takes a lot of guts to keep going when the flight instructor gets out of the plane and says "OK like we have practiced, stay in the pattern- 3 touch and go's and back to the hanger". Even more when the tower says "your clear for take off" and you fingers touch the throttle... your out of wiggle room and the little voice says go for it. 50 feet off the ground and a tingle hits you in the gut. I did it! I'm on own and no one can help me land this sucker.. and I love it. Few things you will ever do can even come close to equiling this feeling of euphoria. Freedom. 😎

Thank you for producing this video - it brings back great memories. I flew my first solo at KCHD back in 1982 in a C-150! My CFI shot my solo flight with a Super -8 movie camera from the ground. Nothing like the GoPro video tech of today but still a cherished record of that special moment in every pilot's life. To the pilot in this video, great judgment deciding on the go-around on first approach. Your landings were smoother than mine - I had a slight bounce on my second landing. Well done and congratulations!

I soloed back in 1984 out here in California at Chino airport when I was 17 . Your firs solo is something that you never forget . I can still see that beautiful sunny afternoon Spring day when my instructor asked me to pull over and drop him off at what they called the instructors chapel located near one of the runways. And then flying off on my first solo . Congrats to Vanina and her instructor .

I do not usually comment on videos, but I felt this one needed it. I want to congratulate the lady for her solo, her fantastic aeronautical decision making and the outstanding and meticulous cockpit management. But that said , this would not be happening without instructors like the one she has. I wish there were more CFI's like this guy, who for what I can see in this video, engraves in his students the importance of each and every step of what it is to fly an aircraft. The rigorous skill to recognize when it is time to call a go around and know that it was in fact the smart thing to do. The importance of check lists and clear communication. I salute with great respect and admiration to both this lady aviatrix and the CFI

I agree with this. I’ve had my far share of instructors and unfortunately a good amount of them were just looking to gain hours until they could find a better job. Which is understandable and acceptable as long as you don’t abuse it. One of them was very short tempered and I couldn’t ask a simple question without getting shot down. There needs to be more instructors out there like this one.

You never forget your first solo. My instructor took me up for 30 min of touch and go and criticized most of what I did even smacking me with the check list. Final we landed and I figured I would never solo anytime soon. He got out and told me to make two touch and go's and land. Later I ask him about all the crap he gave me prior to the solo. He said he wanted to see if I got rattled by anything before I went on my own.

Only thing I would add that I haven't seen in the comments - She scans to the right constantly, but that's expected because she is in a right pattern thus the airport is on her right. But you have to look left now and then, because you never know what selfish, self-centered dimbulb is coming in for a long straight in landing. This behavior is more common at non-towered airports but looking all around is still a good habit to get into.

0:28 - Technically that would be three (3) landings. In my case, I bounced several times, so I counted them all... Great job on your first PIC supervised solo!!! Awesome decision at 14:15. Beautiful landings. Continued success.

Hypnotherapy conversations with Paul Garth, C.Ht. Lol. I hated WINDY DAYS. Damn it was tuff. About to flare and gust wind comes in then your 10’ high if you don’t add power you go squat I had couple those. But these Cessna are built tuff. I swore I pancaked the bottom several times. Course we never told anyone. Like the old saying goes. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one

Low key if I did that go-around this late my instructor would tear me to shread, you need to decide wether or not you have right angle of approach, are stablized and well centered by 200 feet above the runway (for very light aircraft) which is was very obviously not the case here she was too high and not centered, waiting till you're 50 feet above ground and more than half the runway through is a big mistake. Maybe in the US instruction is different or maybe my Instructor is a big pain in the ass which is likely the case.

I think that was AWESOME ! I've only done my 2nd discovery flight now and last time got to fly it from takeoff to 10ft into touchdown (with only years of home flight sim experience) and it was so COOL. I hope you keep on going with this hobby Vanina, and you're young enough you could turn it into a career. I'm already 43 so it's too late for me, for me could only be a hobby.. Take it to the top and who cares what people think ! You ROCK !

I got my pilot's licence many years ago and remember my initial solo flights in the circuit.. She has been well trained and will make a great pilot. Perfect approach and touch downs, apart from the 1st which was too high. She knew that and went around. Decisions like that make for a good pilot. I hope she will persue a career as an airline pilot or similar.

Mine He caught me off guard we landed Taxi back to hanger. He said keep it running. I had a funny look. He goes. Ok. I want 1 touch n go and final. I damn near died. He shut the door and it was just me. This was 1988. I didn’t have time to think I just taxi back to the active. This was Kansas so it was pretty much me. It was one of the best LANDINGS I performed both of them. Think getting me off guard I didn’t have time to really think about it

@@wakeuppeople7327 Same here. We taxied to the ramp and my instructor called tower and said, “I’m sending one up by himself.”, then said, “Okay, do three laps.” Then, I am told, he went inside the FBO and watched TV. I wish we had GoPros back then-it’d be great to have a record of that day.

Your instructor doesn't allow you to solo unless they're very confident you'll do fine. Usually they they mention you might be soloing on your solo day or close to it. Mine did. We went up together the plan was just to do touch in goes. After the third one he called up to the tower and said this one will be to a full stop... he told me to park by the FBO, not the tie down area. I thought the entire time, he needed to use the restroom. I said, oh the temporary parking area, and he just said yep. We got there, and I was about to begin engine shut down procedures, he said oh no keep it running. And he proceeded to get out of the airplane. I then realized what was going on. I couldn't stop grinning the entire time. The long taxi to the end of the about 10,000 foot runway glancing at the empty right seat, I giggled to myself, how do I get myself into these messes. Oh well, I'll be okay. Taking off and turning crosswind seeing my city below me with only about 14 hours under my belt, felt so surreal thing, like a dream both I can't believe they're letting me do this, and this is so awesome I'm doing it. In most cases it happens fairly early in training (10 to 16 log hours)... unless you're having serious learning curve problems. Either way, I think every pilot remembers their first solo. The magic doesn't vanish though, flying people who either never have flown or flown in a small plane before brings that magic back. I don't think I would want my solo recorded though... it would need to be edited... I was thinking out loud including checklist: "Whoops, didn't mean to do that... hmmm wonder if I'll survive... how do I get myself in these messes? I can't believe they're letting me do this... there's the interstate, good thing they're oblivious they got a newbie flying over them... look at the tower... oh head for the numbers... okay, looks like I'm dive bombing the tower... oh now you want me to extend my downwind and follow number 2 behind that airplane... must have scared the tower... hope I don't forget anything... anything critical anyway... that'd be bad... I hope they don't have some audio recording device in here, they'll never let me fly again..." and of course lots of hooping and hollering having the time of my life.
